Vorster seems dubious since his return from injury. Not sure if they forgot to take the pins out of his legs because he appears so slow and stiff.
EW Viljoen had a few games that were solid but has since fallen apart. Although he has had some useless inside centres such as Dan-Kriel. Dan Kriel is probably the worst player in Super rugby in 2017.
Esterhuizen is able in body, but not in mind where he lacks a brain. He is a liability on defence, where every tackle seems like it could become a card.
Willie Leroux seems to have become the forgotten man of Bok rugby. It is a pity, as he would excel in a Lions/Bok game plan.
Kolbe is toast as he signed to play overseas. Sergel Pieterson is good, and should get a call up soon. Not sure if he would be a first choice, but a solid backup non the less.
Skosan has one wing tied up, so it is about filling the other spot. He is fast and has an amazing step. He also understands how to run into space.
I would like to see the other wing as Willie Leroux or Delande, where defence will be less of an issue.
Not sure if Ismael and Ulengo are international standard.
Van Wyk needs to colour his skin, and Nkosi needs more game time.

Thee are factors you should bear in mind when evaluating some players. In the case of centers you must also look at the flyhalf and the center partner. Viljoen started off very well with the Du Plessis cousins in that position.
The moment Dan du Plessis was injured - the center combination did not work and to blame Viljoen for that is not right. He had to play outside of Kriel and Treeby - both useless. Since he was paired up with De Allende the situation improved immediately.
I always favour thinking players and Viljoen is definitely one of those.

Dave
Do not leave out Wilemse - he has amazing talent as a flyhalf.

Would love to see at some point -
Coetzee, Combrinck, Am, JvR, Skosan, Janjties, Cronjé - keep the lions lads together as much as possible I say.
But for the RC opener, we have to reward form from the french tests, and from the SR season so something like -
Coetzee,Combrinck/Nkosi/Mampimi/Van Wyk, Kriel, Serfontein, Coetzee, Janjties, Cronje
Players like Gelant look insanely talented too but he's young and he'll get his chance.
I think Senatla probably needs one more year in 15s before international honours

You have Coetzee twice - I assume you mean Skosan.
19 Jul 2017, 09:24#8
Well there's a new one in SA rugby for you. Gelant, at 22, is too young!!!! Really?

Gelant is NOT the best full back this year. He was very, very ordinary for the Bulls most of the Super Rugby seasonalthough in the last few matches he was better. He can improve under a different coach as he has the talent - but at 22 he needs further time to proof his candidature.
However, you would with your total absence of rugby knowledge fail to understand what was really meant in this case. .

Leyds outp layed Gelant by some distance last week. He has been more dangerous at 15 than even Coetzee. Only question will be his defence against bigger backs.I have serious doubts whether mini mouses Senatla, Sergel or Kolbe can make it at test level. Rhule showed he can't compete.Snapster still hasn't twigged that Kolbe could potentially be the greatest scrummie in the game.
19 Jul 2017, 12:37#12
Beans, you don't just one day decide to be a scrummy. Yes, physically Kolbe fits the bill, but the difference between a back line player and scrum half is massive. Scrum half is probably the most specialised position in rugby, you can't just switch.

Bluebok he has played scrummie for the sevens side, he is a natural. Has a great long pass and will tie down the opposition loose forwards. Bluebok take it from Beeno - a MASSIVE blunder has been committed in respect of Kolbe!
Ou maaaaikie don't let Cerudunce windpomp get you you! Hahaha hahahahaha

Think Reinach....remember him. A scrumhalf needs more than a break. Connor Murray is a scrumhalf.

Kolbe has an exceptional boot. That is why he can play 15. Kolbe has it all but vision-less coaches cant see it.

Hougaard was a small wing that was converted into a scrumhalf where he excels for his pub club team in England, but was hopelessly exposed at test level.
A scrumhalf needs a good pass and kick, Hougaard has neither. Kolbe is small, that does not mean he can pass like a scrumhalf.
Enough of this silliness Bean Brain

Well how about EW Viljoen, Odendaal, Vorster, Venter, Skosan, Combrink, Ismael, Ulengo, Twambe, Sergel and Senatla. Not one a test player.
Liarmike whining about his beloved EW not getting the right support.
Hilarious, man these guys are stupid.

"A scrumhalf needs a good pass and kick, Hougaard has neither. Kolbe is small, that does not mean he can pass like a scrumhalf". Sharkbokkie do you ever watch Sevens. Kolbe has played scrummie for our Bltzb and has a very good long pass. There is no need to guess about his pass and his boot you "ignorant pratt!" Hahahahhahahahaha where does this guy come from with his absurd remarks!
As for the Truff oak well we have a number of class acts:Kitshoff, Beast (Getting on though) Marx, Eben, Snyman, Du Toit, Faf, Pollard, Dyanti and Willie. Whiteley if allowed to play his type of roving number game is also a class act.We don't know enough about Nkosi. Kriel and Allende are very adequate performers. Willemse is a star in the making. One notes that the resident defeatists think we are bound to lose against the wee abs at Loftus. i am holding fire till i see the team sheet to asses the odds. But if we can beat them at Wellington we sure can beat them at Loftus!

Truth has nailed it.....test greats aren't found in long lists. As for the other BS....
1 Our last 3 scrums against NZ were epic....they were trying mightily to milk a penalty. In years past those were the scrums that allowed NZ to win. Sure there was a little fragility when Fatty was at tighthead, but quick heels rescued us.
2 In the WC with Lomp and Etzebeth our two biggest locks on the park....NZ had 57% possession and 67% territory. Mostert had nothing to do with our low numbers against the ABs. That was down to a huge pena;ty differential.
Goofball theories backed by incomplete data wont wash.

Moz has the audacity to call me dumb but is stupid enough to tell us Mostert is better than PSDT.
You can always count on Mozzie to back the wrong player for the man does not watch the same game the rest of us do.
Dumb you say - fuck you
