When one considers the baby boks how many of these guys would shape at super comp level. The rule of thumb generally is that forwards take longer to mature than backs. But here we have Kitshoff and a few others with super comp time. Props particularly take time to make an impression.

To me most of the pack and first choice backline players should be given exposure to super comp even if off the bench. Pollard though at 18 is too young and should wait a couple of years.

I still think Etzebeth should be coming off the bench for the Boks and Flip starting. Etzebeth is being badly managed having payed every game this season - ditto Kitshoff (ou Alistair is pretty clueless). Young players neeed to be eased in not played into the ground.

Flip has had many chances and has to my mind not been equal to the task.   I would drop him from the squad altogether.    I do not know how Etzebeth keeps it up.

Years ago I spoke to a Springbok player who told me that when he was in the team - they used to play about 14 to 16 games a year.    He said he does not know how the present players managed the playing schedule.   Now it is nearly three times that and something has to give.   I would definitely rest Etzebeth in the Lions and Rebels game or put him on the bench - just to give him a break - but would that happen in this case  - sorry to say no.

Age has nothing to do with it. If you are good enough you are old enough. Crap re Etzebeth, he is the best lock in the country and therefore has to start

age these days are not of importance...it just depends how that talent being used...certain players mature quicker than others and vice aversa...

pollard is class but needs some finishing touches to be great. he offers alot just like goosen to whom i still think is in my view no1 choice on flyhalf. his stay at the cheetahs has move his skill levels to another level and he now fits wonderfully into there great backline. its not the best idea to through a player into the deep end and hope and prays he swims....but if you teach him to swim than his chances is a lot better.

we dont want another gaffie du toit scenario. the rugby system is creating wonderfull young talent but the upper level rugby coaches tend not to use that players to there full potential...no allister coetzee i am not looking at you right now.
