Hurricanes bury hapless chiefies

Pity ou BL is not here to face the music! - after all the chest beating we witnessed!

The Hurricanes scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to steal a 23-19 win against the Chiefs in a warm-up match on Friday.

The Chiefs led 9-6 at half-time thanks to three penalty goals by Aaron Cruden. The Chiefs added a further seven points after the break through a Brendon Leonard try and a Cruden conversion, and at 16-6 looked to be in control as the game entered the fourth and final quarter.

But the Hurricanes enjoyed a late surge, scoring a try on the hour through Jack Lam. Michael Bent crashed over with six minutes remaining and another successful conversion saw the Hurricanes edging into the lead. A further penalty by Daniel Kirkpatrick put the result beyond doubt.

The Hurricanes will play the Stormers at Newlands next Saturday while the Chiefs will host the Highlanders in Hamilton.

Although not much can be read in these pre-season warm-up games, I can't see the Canes beating the Stormers on Newlands.

Stormers might be without Peter Grant, but I'm sure Joe at 15 can be trusted with the boot.

The Canes are a new mixture of players and the unknown factor could count in their favour.

Should be a good game. Can't wait to go to Newlands.

Hope you're right............. not getting a victory in your first home game will be such a kak start, especially over a team that should end the tournament as NZ's cellar-dwellers.

Yes these home games MUST be won so hoping for a solid start.

Too much unhealthy pessimism about the Stormers methinks.
