I think the fires are started by delinquents - the number of fires in the Southern and Western Cape is unbelievable.

Fire fortunately not getting nearer to town.
The following from News24:-
"There are active fire-lines in Garcia Pass, Kruisrivier and Grootvaderbos and westerly winds could pose a threat to infrastructure, according to the JOC. "
Garcia Pass is the one north of Riversdale. Kruisrivier is to the east of the town and Grootvadersbos is north-east of Heidelberg.
There is one saving grace and that is to the north of the town the farmers mainly farm with green cattle feed grass and that is not really flammable. The fire to the north has been restrained and is now confined only to the area around the Garcia pass.
However, the fires in the Kruisrivier area are now on the farms bordering the mountain and a serious threat to the people in the area. Emergency vehicles are going that way. Not a good sign. The farmers there are wheat farming - always a fire danger shortly before harvesting.

I have fought 2 big bushfires while in the Army ,at Orange in NSW the locals buggered off to the pub and left all us Diggers to fight their fire for them .By this stage they were mostly spot fires but 48 hours non stop for us left us rooted and not real happy with the locals.
The last one I fought in the same area was terrifying ,gum trees were bursting into flames while the main fire was 100m away just from the heat igniting the gaseous haze exuded by gum trees in the intense heat,
