Watching the halftime show Eraser was talking. He had 4 big points to make:

Attack.

Defence.

The Breakdown.

Kicking.

Except he was  only addressing the kicking point. Talk about dead head rugby. We had exactly 3 backline events. The first when Am, Faf and Willie broke down the right wing. Next crucially when Pollard took the ball at pace, he must have remembered his HM training...and made a crucial break. Finally Allende tractored over as Bigger tried to cut off the offload.

But they won....from a position where they seemed to be losing steam. And then it hit me  like a bomb. Eraser is the luckiest coach ever. From a position of losing the pool to the ABs, we play Japan and a depleted Welsh team....NZ plays Ireland and the dangerous English side.

And even with those advantages, Rassie himself admitted we needed a great big dollop of luck to beat the Wallies. This man is lucky! And that's okay, as they say it's  better to be lucky than good....and Eraser certainly isn't good, but he's really lucky.

I'm okay with that....maybe the Eraser's legendary luck will get Itoje red carded next week. I'm a believer.

Now I'm a believer, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Now I'm a believer
Then I read his case
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace, of doubt in my mind

What injuries did the Springboks have besides the winger a week ago?

The Welsh side lost a great #15 the day before the semi's plus a strong prop and a awesome winger during the game.

Not making excuses but asking.

Has anyone ever thought that Erasmus might have had a plan to lose the first game after a great first half start to the AB's.

Sure seems possible judging by the way the draw was set up at WC.

If he did he needs to be acclaimed as a great manager, for even thinking about it and pulling it off.

Agree Moz 10000%

A perfect summarisation of the Bok coach.

It's like he had planned it all...avoid the English at all cost. Let the unsuspecting ABs win in the pool stage and make sure we get out to the quarters....see off the underperforming Irish or the home side advantaged Japanese then sail through playing the eazy peazy Welsh to the final.

And he's done it...a master plan.

If he can manage a way to stop England from having 20 players on the field and come up with a plan that is NOTHING like the pathetic kicking boring one dimensional plan against the Welsh then he has a chance.

The Boks need to get back to their attacking game plan ASAP and blow the boring POMS away from the opening minute then have them playing catch up rugby until the end.

The Boks have the talent and skill to do this.

The English don't.

The English have one plan: Get the first points and smash the opposition with a king hit in the opening minutes then smother them so they cannot breathe....nullify their attack. The ABs and the Boks have the most dynamic attacking side in the world and all the POMS know how to beat them is to play total defensive rugby and block the attack.

The ABs were stunned by this and played the game with every player handcuffed.

GO BOKKE!!!!!

Well the Wales theory of having more injuries than us just bit the dust thanks to sharbok.

Winning the Rugby Championship was just luck. Being in the final is just luck!

its all getting very lame. Dr Moz should have paid close attention to Schalk Burger who said Rassie is the sharpest rugby brain in South Africa.

No more trolling Dr Moz - before even opening this thread i knew what you would be not be praising Rassie!! Yup i got ya number for sure!

We were balanced with us losing Kolbe and Wales losing Liam Williams. One has to assume losing North and Francis hurt them.
If you want to go further back Anscombe, Rhys Webb, Navidi, Faletau etc......certainly more significant injuries than we have experienced. Faletau alone is a massive loss.

The 2007 English coach was referred to as a pub coach by Lawrence Dallaglio and other senior players in the tournament.

Then Martin Johnson took over with no coaching experience, and what followed was the 2011 Mike Tindell Stag do and dwarf throwing tournament piss up . Martin Johson was fired, and never returned to coaching...

No use arguing with a twisted individual about anything,   Fact is he is constantly praying that the Springboks would lose games and his twisted stories are always the same,    Since the day Erasmus was appointed Shifty Schiff-Strzok went on his twisted hate-Erasmus campaign.

The man is not worth anything to discuss issues with - he is just impossible to get any straight views and he would not hesitate to lie openly on site to try and prove the impossible.  All one can say Happy Distortion and Liars Day to SS-S,   He should be happy with that benevolent wish as he is as twisted as hell.   LMAO.

On the contrary I always support South African teams, especially the Springboks. And it makes the whole tournament much more interesting having us in the final. Were we fortunate to get there....you bet. And am I proud of the rugby we are playing....not really we are playing the most one dimensional rugby of any of the top teams....we could be so much better without giving up our obvious strengths.

No Mozart

There are different approaches to every team the Springboks play depending on the opponents strength and weaknesses,   When the chips are down the idea is to win games,

The real issue is are you saying that Erasmus allow for only a one-dimensional approach, while Meyer and Coetzee had a multi-dimensional approach?

SB  confirmed what I previously wrote about the Welsh game in 2015.   The move leading to the Du Preez winning try did not have the blessing of Meyer and if he did find out what the players were  planning to do he would probably have forbidden it.   Even Vermeulen after the match said something similar to the media about that try.   Meyer was lost in his inability to understand rugby and Erasmus is NOT,   That is why Erasmus as coach at Munster was successful and Meyer is a total failure at Stade Francais - spot the difference?

The problem is I am very critical of the high up and unders at present too frequently used by the Springboks - but the problem is not necessarily the idea, but the inaccuracy in execution.   Where it was accurate and properly used it did benefit the Springboks - where not it s  nightmare as it is purely a possession hand-over mechanism.   That is why I always criticized Morne Steyn as well - kicking is a strategy that demands top class execution and not be totally predictable.   That is why Morne failed totally and where I think De Klerk's main problem is.

If one listens carefully what SB claimed Erasmus said after the match yesterday - the chances are that there will be way less box kicking and way more usage of Pollard and the very effective De Allende in backline usage.

Hmmmm...what's hard to fathom is how guys like you who were rabidly calling for a complete change in Bok rugby, for all out ball in  hand play....are now defending the most verkrampte rugby we have ever played, just because we have had a bit of (lucky) success.

My own position has always been that we need to emphasize physicality and structured play.....they suit us. In that sense I have argued for a return to our traditional strengths. But not this...kicking the leather off the rugby ball.

It's certainly possible to still have backs who can pass the ball and even in rare moments execute an offload....while sticking to our basic strengths.

We may win this tournament....I hope we do ....in a WC final the Boks always have a shot. But this is no path forward for our rugby, and wont translate into reliable success at international level or in even Super Rugby.

Mozart

I am not defending anything - I for years have been critical about not the concept of kicking as part of the game, but the poor execution that was always a problem.   That is why I criticized Morne in the past and why I criticized De Klerk at present,

Pollard never was good at out-of-hand kicking and that became starkly evident in 2015 under Meyer already and even Erasmus referred to that in his after the match interview yesterday.  Pollard's strengths really are different and I believe that will come out in future more prominently.  He was badly used by Meyer and did well the past two years when he was used properly.  In the world cup this year Pollard under-performed because he was not properly used as a result of the box-kicking mania of especially De Klerk.

I don't get why you lot are too afraid to admit that this coach is crap. What's the big deal?? He is nothing special. The only coach from sout  Africa that I respect is Jake White and the rest are below average but this current guy is something else. The most ugly rugby imaginable. You guys have been playing like this since last year but you think it s some kind of new thing that he does only for certain games. Not even facing minnows do you open up and that's cause he is afraid he'll lose because he can't coach at this level. Kick his ass out (ironic) and get a foreign coach someone who'll actually do the job at a tier 2 to 1 level.

England's only good coach was Clive Woodward. These rest are not international standard.
While Rassie is not as good as some New Zealand coaches, he could get a higher paid coaching job overseas than an England coach.
At least SA has the option of recruiting a native coach, without having to rely on another country to teach you how to play the sport.
After 2019, will England have the guts to get an England coach - or will it be poaching another overseas coach in an active contract.

Martin Johnson and Lancaster had the boys playing much better rugby than this crap we see from the Bokkies. In fact we have a great culture for dveelopnnt. In the UK especially England and Ireland. That's where so many of yir guys learned howto coach at all. What have the Bokkies given tk the world of rugby? Nothing.

Lancaster was the coach that the Boks beat 37-0 in the 2007 opening rounds. Lawrence Dalagio's autobiography labelled him as a pub coach.

Did Martin Johnson's piss heads even win a game against the Boks? The only competition they were competitive was the dwarf throwing event in New Zealand. Although none of the other rugby teams participated in this pissup routine.

You are correct it was Brian Ashton who was the pub team coach. (The 2007 coach).

Lancaster was a decent person - but not international standard. A home grown granny apples type of product

Tuilaga had the game of his life whe the England beat the All Blacks, all those moons ago. (other than the recent incarnation where New Zealand did not turn up on the day)

Nah your all wrong sharky. Lancaster is a very astute rugby mind and he had great ideas taking the team forward from Johnson (who was actually not that bad). Lancaster is a proper test quality modern coach. He wasnt given enough of a backing by our sour and stale board of old farts who know stuff all. Tui had a great game but we played well as a team and smashed them at the breakdown. They couldnt ake the speed of our game.

All the talk of Erasmus having a different game plan is a laugh, if it means that it amounts to kicking more or kicking less then yes there is a difference but the plan in itself remains the same.

Disgusting stuff.

Lancaster was our bitch. I am not sure if his band of rejects ever beat the Boks.
Do you blame the RFU board for firing a coach that holds the record of the only host country never to make it through the qualifying round? Lancaster is unlikely to get a coaching job at the likes top club like those in France. He will remain in England and get some decent jobs as a homeground science experiment. Granny Apples, not the best but has some emotional bias and comfort.
