I am keen to see what Meyer will do insofar as the team for Saturday is concerned:-

Will he foul up the center selection?

Even though De Villiers is badly out of form - it is a definite that he will choose him at 12.   The question is - who is going to be 13?   That would eb interesting:-

*   The attack deficient Serfomntein - good in defense, but incapabl of attacking play - he is an inside center - not a 13:

*    the very indifferent Pietersen - limited in attack - but really a problem defensively; or

*   the better attacker of the three in De Allende - who missed two tackles in his first game, but has been good in defense in his second game.

Whereas Pietersen is likely to fail in defense with vsevere limitations i attack - he is not going to make the grade.   He failed in 2012 and will fail again in future.

Who will be the scrummie?

Du Preez and Pienaar are both injured and getting past it as well.   As a matter of fact both will have a very limited number of games during the first six months of next year and the question will ultimately be - how matchfit are they?

Hougaard made a serious of flops in teh All Blacks game and the general question is who will Meyer select?   I am hoping for Reinach - he has been a better  scrummie than Hougaard throughout Super 15 this year.

Who will replace Louw?

That is an easy answer when it comes to the number 6 jersey - Coetzee would eb moved to opensider.  The problem is the bndside flank - where Meyer has painted himself into a corner as a result of injuries.   He has Mohoje and Whiteley available and the politicos are already shouting about Mohoje.

What about the Tight head prop?

Again there is an injury problm that impacts on selection.   Jannie du Plessis can barely last two halftime before his scrumming collapses and he is a liability in respect of other facets of play as well - the latter as long as he is on the field of play.   Typical signs of a player that needs to be phased out.

My guess is that in view of the injury to Malherbe, Du Plessis will remain as the prop during the first half and then replaced.   Hope he lasts that lobng this time around.

MY SELECTION

I think the following tem is th strongest one we can field at this stage - bearing in mind Meyer's addction to some players who really have deficienicies:-

15   Willie le Roux

14   Cornal hendricks

13   Damian de Allende

12   Jean de Villiers

11   Bryan Habana

10   Handre PPollard

9     Cobus Reinach

8     Duane Vermeulen

7     Warren Whiteley

6     Maarcel Coet\zee

5     Victor Matfield  *

4     Eben Etzebeth

3     Marcell van der Merwe

2     Adriaan Strauss

1     Tendai Mtawarire

16   Birmarck du Plessis

17   Trevor Njakan#

18   Jannie du Plessis    *

19   Lodewyk de Jager

20   Tehojo Mohoje

21   Francois Hougaard

22   Patrick Lambie

23   Jan Serfontein

*  Matfield is physiclly deficient - and is not adding value to Tight 5 play.   He really remains a liability rather than an asset - whe he is reliable in line out takes - but nothing else.

*   Jannie is on the way out since he can only last a limited time - it would be wrong to start with him - he should ebcome an impact player and thus measure up.

Serfontein is playing at 12 on defence and 13 on attack. All of our centres have done little on attack this tournament.
Pollard and Willie need to learn to combine more.
JP may offer the most on attack, and poor ol Delande may find himself being dropped from the match 22.
Habana has been average and Cornel is currently our best wing

Mike I like your team, but would swap De Allende and Serfontein.

What exactly did Pietersen offered in attack when he played at 13?   One case where he got the ball in the clear - ran for about 20 meters and then grubber kicked the ball.
That was about the sum total of what he offered in attacking play.  For the rest he produced near to zero on attacking ability.   The problem is he lacks pace and because of that he is not up to standard in defense as well.   His defense at 13 was seriously problematic.

I like Serontein a lot - but eh is NOT a 13.   He defended well - but produced zero in attacking play.   I poimarily sees him as a 12 - not a 13.   With De Villiers's poor form at present - I would have liked to see him at 12 - but that will not happen.

Meyer could simply make some changes in the remaining matches but nothing drastic. The badly in form players could start in spite of how substandard some of them have been which would be no surprise.

When you take into account how the backline performed in the June internationals this year you would know that's the opposite of what we've seen in the RC. Jean De Villiers wasn't part of the June internationals this year which is why the backline operated better with Serfontein at 12 at the time. De Villiers should be on the verge of ending his career next year, whether his age is relevant to his form, I think it surely is. His form isn't ideal for the team and he is disrupting the backline from playing with width due to his usual crashballing approach. I see some are saying he is only in the squad because of the captaincy which is quite accurate although  Matfeild could also be the captain seeing as he is selected by Meyer, so I don't see the importance in the selection of Jean De Villiers in any way. The centre paring should be Serfontein at 12 and De Allende at 13 but we could be seeing JP at 13. JP is a better defender but he is not equal to De Allende.

I would like to see Marcel Van der merwe get more game time instead of Jannie, I think it's about showcasing his talent, he could potentially be a huge asset to the team, same goes for Tomas Du Toit. It's vitally important to have discipline players on the field despite of whether or not the player is good at the primary function and Jannie relates to that. We've often discussed how badly he has played in super 15 this year but it has continued throughout the RC and Mozart must be upset, looking for ways to back his favourite player while he is failing to the lowest degree.

Meyer will probably start Whitely or Burger as Lowe is injured. I've stated before why Burger wouldn't help the team too much. I would much rather select Nizaam Carr or Willie Britz who is better than Lowe in my opinion. I don't think they'll have a problem slotting in at 6 or 7, they have been great in the CC and both deserve a Springbok call up. The reports have been stating Nizaam Carr has been invited to train with the bok team but there is no source saying that he got a bok call up, that is unfortunate because he could make a massive difference.
