To be fair we were a man down defensively with Bissie being off the pitch for half the match (or thereabouts) and another man down with Ruan's brain fart that lead to Brodie Retallick's try and other defensive mis-haps. Coenie is a Loosehead, much rather see Frans Malherbe there in the future so for the time being Jannie is fine in my books.
His tackling is a liability. He seems to be linked to all the soft tries where tackles should have been made.
Malherbe needs to get fit.
Not sure about Coenie scrummaging. His allround game is the best in South Africa, just not 100% convinced of his scrummaging. Although he seems to be on the pitch as the same time when Beast has allready left the picture.
Jannie like Prince Jean, has been playing regularly since February ............ & its probably a combination of running close to empty & I suspect a niggling injury . Anyway how many tiring props can bring down a swift silky moving flyhalf ? ...................... Bissie & him grow another foot when they put their arms around each other & enter the fray................ Jannie was interviewed before Bismarck got his 50th cap & he had tears in his eyes .Remarkable pair . The good doctor now goes home & treats HIV patients & hopefully a good rest . We still need the brothers, unfinished business .
Last time I checked Coenie stood as firm as Jannie did on Saturday so not sure where you get that from Moz. Coenie was pinged once for an early push......other than that he stood firm.
There has been no issue with Coenie at tighthead at all. The only issue at scrum time, comes when Steenkamp is introduced.
Jannie had Bismark and Beast to work with......hardly the same as Coenie who had Strauss and Steenkamp as partners.
Jannie has been solid enough, his tackling was piss poor and cost us 2 tries. I'd be more than happy to see Coenie start alongside Bismark and Beast
