...and politics played no part in rugby but you were only allowed to select players between the ages of 19 and 27, what would be the 35 strong squad you select to work with from now until WC 2015?

Injuries aside. Everyone is fit! This is your dream squad.

Scrumhalves: Rory Kockett, Cobus Reinach, Faf De KlerkFlyhalves: Pat lambie, Handre Pollard, Marnitz BoshoffWings: JP Pietersen, Duhan Van Der Merwe, JJ Engelbrecht, Sbura SitholeCentres: Paul Jordaan, Damian de Allende, Andre Esterhuizen, Jan SerfonteinFullbacks: Jesse Kriel, SP Marais
Props: Frans Malherbe, Coenie Oosthuizen, Marcel vd Merwe, Thomas du ToitHooker: Kyle Cooper, Malcolm Marx, Callie VisagieLocks: Pieter S-du Toit, Lood De Jager, Stephan Lewies, Paul Willemse, JD SchickerlingFlankers: Heinrich Brussouw, Boom Prinsloo, Tera Mtembu, Arno Botha, Jacques Du PlessisNo 8's: Duane Vermuelen, Marcel Coetzee
I am not a great fan of Johan Goosen. I think he is a damn good player but a bit of a disruption as he is too brittle. Handre is every bit as good as him. There is plenty great overseas talent that I didnt really wana select as they are over there but I would beg Kockett to come back..He is by far our most complete scrummy in terms of kicking and running game! Reinach has promise but his kicking is not too great and I dont think Hougaard is ever going to be the "complete" package.Marcel can play as a flanker or 8 but perhaps he has not kicked on for the Boks like he does for the Sharks because his best position may be 8 as Saffex says. He has added a "fetching" ability to his game these days but he is a bit inbetween a fetcher and ball carrier. I select him because we know what he can do. Maybe he will find his home at 8?
Big lack of experience throughout this team but the difference between an experienced team and inexperienced team is game time together. Will rather watch these guys lose to NZL but learning all the time than watch our 30-something year olds who have never learnt to beat NZL consistently lose anyway! Much less painful to watch!

Limiting it to players between 24 and 29 is difficult - there are other older and younger players I would have in the squad.

15  -  Willie le Roux,  Taute,  Lambie
Wings - Mvovo, Pietersen, Engelbrecht, Jordaan
Centers -  De Allende. Serfontein, Jordaan, Esterhuizen
10   -   Goosen,. Lambie, Pollard, Boshoff
9   -    Reinach, Hougaard, Groom
8   -   Arno Botha, Van der Walt
7   -   Labuschagne. Arno Botha, Jacques du Plessis. Michael Rhodes
6   -   Louw, Coetzee, Mthembu
Locks  -  Etzebeth, Du Toit, De Jager, Willemse, Lewies, Ruan Botha
3   -    Malherbe, Oosthuizen, Van der Merwe
2   -   Strauss, Cooper,  Visagie
1   -   Mtawarire, Kitshoff, Chadwick.
I did not check all the ages - so I might be wrong in some cases.  In other cases there are players that can slot in in more than one position.
I am not in favour of age being a norm - bu is very cagey about playing over 30 year oldies in their declining years.   Of the top over 30's  I would say only Habana, De Villiers and  Bismarck are really the only essentials. whilke I would also prefer Vermeulen to play as well.   There really is no other essential rugby geriatrics needed - the younger players are more mobile, stronger and better than the rest are.
Above all - the only norm should be proven PERFORMANCE - not age, experience and reputation.
You really went for some very young cases.  I agree with you there and should have added some youngsters like Jesse Kriel, Duhan van der Merwe, Cockott, Little Faf, Thomas Du Toit, JD Schickerling and Malcolm Marx to my list.
Jesse is mammoth - even playing at center.  Duhan is the real deal in future and Greeff may yet learn how to tackle.   I like little Faf - he has a rugby brain on him - and JD Schkerling is a real star in the making as well.  Du Toit is a big and a very  strong guy - there can be no doubt of that one.

Shit..My bad..How could I forget Willie Le Roux..Willie in for Sithole on my list..What a massive mistake ;-)
I considered Mvovo but he was too old and secondly, he does not really cut the mustard. He, like Hougaard, has been tried and not made the grade.Strauss is too old. Beast is too old.
