Mozart, I would double check that they are enjoying your joke and not looking out to see who they are getting back at with your food preparation.
Gulp.
Where's Rooi? Is this a rugby topic?
A woman has died on her honeymoon after having a heart attack believed to have been caused by eating contaminated fish.
Christine Fensome, 54, from Burghill, Herefordshire, became ill on September 27 while on holiday in Mexico with Andy Bennetts, 58. They had married ten days earlier.
She awoke in the night with vomiting and diarrhoea and died after arriving at hospital the next morning. Her death was caused by ciguatera poisoning from a grouper fish in a restaurant, her brother, James Bowyer, said yesterday.
Ciguatera Fish Poisoning (Toxin) Definition
- Ciguatera is a foodborn illness (food poisoning) caused by eating fish that is contaminated by ciguatera toxin. Ciguatera toxin is a heat-stable lipid soluble compound, produced by dinoflagellates and concentrated in fish organs, that can cause nausea, pain, cardiac, and neurological symptoms in humans when ingested.
- The toxin may be found concentrated in large reef fish, most commonly barracuda, grouper, red snapper, eel, amberjack, sea bass, and Spanish mackerel.
- These fish live in coral reef waters and accumulate the toxin when they eat smaller reef fish which feed on the dinoflagellates.
- The area of concern include the Caribbean Sea, Hawaii, and coastal Central America.
- With fish from ciguatera endemic areas being shipped nationwide, poisonings can potentially occur in any areas in the United States.
- Ciguatera toxin tends to accumulate in large predator fish (weight over 2 Kg or about 4.5 lbs), such as the barracuda and other carnivorous reef fish, because they eat other fish that consume toxin-producing algae (dinoflagellates), which live in coral reef waters. The toxin has highest concentrations in fish visceral and sex organs.
- Ciguatera toxin is harmless to fish, but poisonous to humans.
- The toxin is odorless and tasteless, and cooking does not destroy the toxin.
- Eating ciguatera-contaminated tropical or subtropical fish is the main way that humans are exposed to the toxin.
- The toxin activates voltage-dependent sodium channels causing symptoms in human (and other mammals) gastrointestinal, cardiac, and nerve tissues.
- There are about 50,000 reported poisonings worldwide per year, but rarely cause death; children have more severe symptoms (see below). Continue Reading
Don't mean to be a kill joy but this can be serious and does occur especially in those waters mentioned above...thankfully is rare in SA especially in the Cape waters.
Moz rather stick to those klipvis off Baileys Cottage or the odd galjeon, elf, kob and steenbras if you catch one...
This could actually be the lamest and most embarrassing post on here since Moffie told us how he changed some words to a song and got a sing-along going much to everyone's astonishment and delight.
I mean really . . . if you're funny then just be funny. Telling other people how funny you are and how everyone slapped you on the back because you're so funny is . . . well . . . about as funny as a burst colostomy bag.
Besides, reading the painfully needy and attention-seeking anecdote above, I get the impression that Moffie was the only one who thought he was being witty or funny . . . everyone else was laughing (probably quite uncomfortably) at the racial slur and the blatant stereotyping.
My sympathies are with the waitress who I'm sure would have loved to tell Moffie where to shove his so-called "humour" but just smiled and took it on the chin because she didn't want to lose her job.
Can imagine a lot of golf club members from priviledged and affluent backgrounds after a few tots of strong drinks roaring with laughter at this young Mexican girl...very tasteless and uncivilized.
Yes, she would be obligated to laugh...Rooiaas is spot on but I can tell you Hispanic people with Spanish blood would be very insulted...you would not get away with that in their own country, or Argentina or Spain if you aimed a low blow to their pride.
Yeah, come to think of it...shows lack of class or breeding...new money.
To think somebody would actually feel the need to post that tasteless boorish and unfunny story on a public message board!
This is what one would call an epic fail!
As for being polite to waitresses and waiters. ALWAYS be nice. Two reasons why;1) It is one of the shartest jobs in the world. I hate it when arrogant arseholes with an inferiority complex harass restaurant staff thinking it makes them look cool in some way. 2) If you are unhappy with your service, wait until you have eaten (for obvious reasons) to voice your disapproval, or even better, don't tip them.
They have to find something to complain about . . . whether it's the service, the food or the wine . . . and while it must make them feel important, it just embarrasses everyone else.
These same people are also the ones who like to change stuff on the menu . . . like I'll have that menu item but swap with this or that . . . or hold the chilli or whatever . . . and then they have a long moan when their changes aren't 100% correct.
I usually go out to a restaurant with those kinds of people just the once.
Of course we all know he's lying again - what self-respecting Mexican would enjoy that really weak "joke" or the sneering and arrogant stereotyping that accompanied it - but that's not really the point . . . it's more the fact that he had to tell us all about his little joke and how he made everybody "laugh".
Speaks volumes about the sour and humourless old windbag that he has to tell us how funny he is instead of just being funny on here.
Don't expect any humour from ou rooitwitterbug! Anything you share makes him intensely jealous. Imagine being a member of a golf club!!! Ou rooiwtit thinks that is very elitist. Bwahahhahaahhahaha what a common toad ou rooitwit is.
Don't confuse outrage with pity, Moffie. I genuinely felt embarrassed for you . . . having to come on here and tell everyone how funny you are and how you sent everyone into gales of laughter . . . when you're such a sour and humourless old fart on here.
Oh well, at least Baboon-ou is on your side . . . and that's good, isn't it?
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
For those with a British sense of humour, watch Monty Python live at the Hollywood Bowl. Probably the funniest live performance ever!
Naughty naughty!
Draad, it's not about whether the waitress was Mexican, Albanian or from the planet Xardoz, it's about the pompous and humourless old toad who feels the need to tell the board what a clever joke he cracked and how everyone thought he was so marvellous.
How pathetically lame do you need to be to do that?
With Hispanic people it's a sensitive issue and on top of that they are very proud people. You of all people should know that. Don't try and justify it...
The hypocrisy that exists here, unbelievable...straining at gnats and flies whilst gulping down camels.
Then those who twist and take comments by others out of context and manipulate because they are quick to jump to conclusions and are a bit thick and slow to discern or comprehend the true meanings.
That's the end of that as far as I'm concerned. There are too many petty and girly issues here...act like men and learn from your error and then drop this.
LMAO!
