In praise of the Cheetahs
The Cheetahs lacked the "big push" understanding, that feel for the final. They may have had Currie cup experience , but it is not comparable. This experience is pure gold dust and will be such a motivator for them.
Yes, I agree.
They were great. Truly inspirational this season.
They played for each other with heart and never gave up, no matter what.
Had an awesome tour down under.
The Lions can learn from this. Then again so can a few of our other super rugby franchises.
I hope they continue next year where they left off this season.
Yup, Cheetahs must be applauded for their stellar season. Not only do they play an entertaining brand of rugby, they're also able to convert that flair into competition points (unlike their NZ doppelgänger, the Hurricanes). They were very unlucky not to beat the Brumbies. A little more BMT and composure and the game was all theirs. No doubt they will come back next year with a renewed confidence and self belief.
There are some lessons there for HM, primarily the balance between attack and defence. A component set piece paired with a dynamic back line is the foundation for any modern rugby team. Given the Republics tight 5 pedigree, plethora of loose forwards and their wealth of capable inside backs, there is no reason why the Bokke can't incorporate some of the more successful aspects of Cheetah rugby into their game.
Anyways, congrats to the Cheetahs and their supporters on a brilliant season. It certainly bodes well for next year. I much prefer Cheetahs rugby compared with the dour yawnfest we've come to expect from the Bools.
wow nukefree nice to see you post a proper post and not a "poke the bear" post of poorly stated insults.......nice to see nukefree.
Cheetahs always has and always will play there pattern. they could always attack but one thing that they have really worked on this year is there defence. but as nukefree as said there template of rugby is what is needed in the modern game. one cant just rely on one tier of either attack or defence you need a multi phased approach and at this high level if there is one area that you are weak you will be exposed.
just hope the cheetahs gets some money on board and retain there players. cheetahs always produce players but can never retain them and just by building some depth on top and keeping there juniors they will be a force in the future.
excellent season of high quality entertaining rugby whch should have seen them in a semi.
Ou Maaaaikie we cant prop up all the SA Unions so please lets have Allende staying at WP. he will play center or wing. Howard must also now get a chance.
I cant say how glad I am for Naka who I have always rated as a caoch. Could he be the one to take over from Meyer one day?
