I've noticed SA TV is setting a dangerous precedent with their coverage of tests played there.

Every time they see something they perceive as going against the Boks they make sure that the people at the ground and at home get multiple slow motion replays but strangely omit these when the Boks transgress! E.G. JDV's blatant forward pass to Habana in the lead up to Pollard's first try!!

The classic was the Messam incident where no-one at the ground including the ref, linesmen, TMO or in the crowd saw anything amiss and play went on for several phases.

It was only when play stopped that the TV boys replayed the incident over the ground monitors and the crowd started baying for blood and attracted the attention of the TMO.

So, cunning interference from SA TV but where will it stop? Will they start showing replays of every little decision or incident they don't agree with or will they butt out until asked?

I doubt it. Some people will do anything to win when they get really desperate.......

Congrats to the TV guys. However they failed to pick up the very bad forward pass that led to the abs try - see Pakies shots of the incident.
The commentators all seemed to think it was a yellow. Man it was far more dangerous than what Bissie did when he got that second yellow that removed him from the game last year.
Justice was done and we Saffas are tired of the wee abs getting away with murder. But when you put in a cheap and very dangerous shot like that it is great TV picked up on it.
Last week it was Louw with a cheap high shot. This week it was Burger. Man when will these wee abs learn to play the game decently.
Kbbs always wanting misdeeds to be covered up.

Lol im sorry Beeno you do nothing but cry foul. So lets not sit on the fence here, and act like its all one sided. Moola makes some legitamate claims. Its a two way street.

JDV passed to Willie in the lead up to Pollard's try. The pass does look marginally forward - about half a yard. Willie has to reach back over his shoulder to catch it so I pinned the ball's position at the point of catch at the back of his back foot. That's one forward pass try apiece then, with Ben Smith's being the other one.

It was a contentious decision.....
Is a captain allowed to raise an incident of foul play to the referee if none of the officials have seen it?
If this does become open to exploitation where it is suspected that the home team is influencing what is seen on the replay, then it will require an independent camera crew from another country- along with the independent referee and TMO.
However in the first instance, the cameraman may not have even been aware of the eblow to the head. It could just have been a standard replay. When it was played on the big screen, the crowd re-acted. The camera man then proceeded to play it over and over and each time the crowd re-acted. As to whether the camera man was intending to influence the referee, or if he was just playing it over and over to gain more interest from the audience is another question.
I would not say that it is every decision that this is happening. It is standard practice to show replays when the game is paused. As for the forward passes, I think the All Blacks and Boks both got away with tries where the passes appeared forward- at least from the camera angle offered.(replays are quick, so I doubt their is a conspiracy of guys running through all the different camera angles to portray the version which is most favourable to the Boks, or the versions).
It is allmost the opposite to what happened with Bismaark last year. The crowd reacted to the tackle before it was on the big screen. The referee should have checked the big screen and/or involved the TMO. Had this happened Bismaark would never have picked up the first yellow card- and subsequent red card which was later expunged after the match.
With Bismaark he never committed foul play, whereas in this Messam incident it was foul play.

The home field advantage is taking on another dimension, lol

Soon the loud speaker system will be used to say: Hey ref wanna review that foul play you missed ref ; the video system will be used as it was this weekend; the home coach will have a remote control for the refs whistle. The list goes on...

Actually, I have to correct myself. Having used proper software to play the video at 0.125x speed I can more accurately pinpoint the moment of pass and catch. The forward pass is even more marginal than my first impression. I would even call it inconclusive because the angles make it difficult to be 100% certain on close calls like this. Good luck to anyone wanting this pass called forward in real time.

I'll have a look Brycy.

Start with Vermuleans head butt on Reads head and go from there (if that was soft Louw that Vermulean had hit with his head , he would have out for weeks or even months)

Give me time references Hakwa, I'm not going to scroll through 80 minutes looking for a headbutt I do have work to do as well. I'm also not going to bicker about my views on the passes, anyone is welcome to disagree, I call them as fairly as I can given the available evidence. Pointless to make stuff up, the game is done and the score in the record books.

Thanks for your insightful input Saff! SA supporters on another site have talked about this obvious bias as well so if your own countrymen can see it Saff.......why can't you?If TV people in all countries pick up on this "tactic" then we are in for some chaotic replays throughout every game from now on....

Hear hear Moolaa - it sets a very dangerous precedent - get your TV Network staff to magnify the opposition Teams supposed indiscretions on the big screen for the ref in your Home Nation and hide your own.

It was an offence committed by one of your players which merited a penalty. How that decision was reached is of no consequence. Justice prevailed and that's all tha t counts

Something to consider is that South Africa may have a better camera crew than most countries.
When ever I watch games in South Africa it seems that their are more camera angles and the replays get showed much quicker on the TV screen. I think more cameras are used in SA than other countries.
Having the quick replays could be good for the game to get the fans more involved in the game so they can influence the game.
Had the camera work been better for the Bismaark tackle on Carter- i.e. the replays on the big screen, the touch judge, TMO or ref may have seen the tackle was fine. (Was this a case of the New Zealand camera crew hiding the tackle from the referee.
I wonder if the camera crews even understand the game of rugby.
Perhaps the onus on the host country should be to get the replays up quickly for crowd to voice their opinions.

Sa ffex, "How that decision was reached is of no consequence." I beg to differ. It should be written into the Covering TV Network's Contract to replay any indiscretions they see fit to replay and magnify without prompting from the ref or video ref and to keep replaying it until the ref changes his mind. Someone from the Opposing Teams Nation and a Neutral Nation should be present at the TV Stations to ensure ALL indiscretions by both Team are given ample MAGNIFICATION and REPLAYS and ATTENTION.
