The situation as to performance of players was interesting.   The first weird thing was the following:-

Tackles made

Tight 5 players       -    38

Loosies                    -    28

Tackles Missed

Tight 5 players       -     3

Loosies                    -     3

 Penalties given away

Tight 5 players       -     5

Loosies                    -     2

Backline players    -     2

Turnovers conceded

Tight 5 players       -     4

Loosies                    -     5

Backline players    -     13

The above tells a weird story of what happened on Saturday.   The fact is that 4 loosies made 28 tackles in total – 7 of which were made by Whiteley who came from the bench - indicate that the loosies other than Whiteley was seriously deficient in defense.   This is confirmed by the fact that the Tight 5 players made 38 tackles with Strauss not making a single tackle and missed 1 tackle.   When Tight 5 players make more tackles than loosies, it is a further indication that the loosies were not contributing  enough to defense,

Then there were the issue of ball possession losses.   Most of the possession losses stemmed from players getting isolated and the ball protection and recovery requirement went AWOL.   That in the main stems from deficiency of the loosies as well.

CleverMike, the stats for Boks offense were pretty good, far better than for Ireland. The problem was the turnovers conceded. Of course some Bok turnovers resulted in a missed opportunity to score a try and that really didn't help.
The backs also drifted across field and no one straightened so wee willie and others were easily driven on out bounds. JP Pieterson getting driven out of bounds that was the last straw as it would have been a try if not.

On defence the problem was they only won one turnover to the 9 won by Ireland. Boks made 90 tackles and missed 9. Ireland made 147 and missed 19.

We need Jaco Kriel at the ruck. He is a ball carrier- but he is actively involved in the rucks. we have too many players waiting on either side of the ruck- only to lose possession

Maybe Strauss is going to get dropped for his piss poor performance.
We could see a backrow something like
6. Kriel

7. Flouw
8. Whitey
----------------------It is a small back row - but at least they would contest at the rucks

The lack of support was obvious. Stats should bring more than exposing what is obvious to all.

How Jaco Kriel didn't start that game is fking ridiculous. If I were ghat guy I'd go to England, earn bug bucks and make myself unavailable for the Boks. What else does he have to do to start a game?
