The Ioane try was made easy by a massive blunder by Kolbe, racing inside onto a player already covered by Kriel. The Bok defensive line was so narrow here that it made stretching them wide easy. Kolbe actually finds himself in no man's land to begin with, then turns it into a disaster by taking the wrong option at a crucial moment.
I've seen a lot of this already. Dyantyi coming in when Am had Barrett, which left a runner free for an offload. A lack of awareness of who is outside or a lack of sense for the threat. Reactive as opposed to proactive.

Yeah, it was a testing situation, one on one with lots of space for the attackers all the way out. Cool heads needed and Kolbe lost his. Probably just panicked and tried to shut down the wide pass. Didn't work.
I guess no defender will relish facing Beauden Barrett one on one with that kind of space out wide. May have influenced his decision.
I got lambasted for saying this, but I suggested that André's ability to defend one on one with stopping power was important. As a coach what do you think about this? I know gang tackling is important, but a defender who can be trusted to stop the threat on his own as opposed to one who needs to be shadowed is something I think we need more of. Surely, more bodies in the line. There are times when I get the impression that our defenders don't trust each other. Sort of like when we played Jacobs, and Habana left his wing exposed in the Lions series. A lack of trust.
Kolbe should've known better, but the majority of our current crop of wingers appear to be athletes first, rugby player second .
André was very effective at pressuring the Aussie attack. He timed his rushes well from pretty deep in the line at times. Kept Folau in particular well under control (4 of his tackles were on Folau) after a disappointing miss on him early on. A surprisingly proactive defender for his size and relative lack of pace.
As long as it's one on one, there's hope Shezza. Willie would have had a bastard of a tackle to make but he might have pulled it off. Once you abandon your position in the line to create the man over, it's over.
AO said the following in an other post "Barrett pops up all over the line. His speed allows him to rejoin the attack outside the carrier, which is tremendous for creating numerical advantages. He doesn't always take the ball at first receiver either. When the All Blacks use their PODs he sometimes stands in behind, as you'd see Pollard or Willie do, but sometimes flat outside them. Honestly with that much space, had Kolbe kept his position I'd still
expect a try scored by Ioane. Maybe Nkosi would have prevented the try,
but either way I wouldn't blame Kolbe.
Only comment dealing with the situation shown in the vid. Poor defensive spacing from the start with too many SA players caught on the wrong side of the ball due to a quick ball release. Then too many one vs ones to defend.
