When people make a generalization that Fourie is better than JJ, are they also taking into account their combination with Jean or comparing them as individuals? I do have a fair idea of who is in the JJ Camp BUT I must point out from the beginning that those of us who rate JJ don't necessarily think Fourie is a bad player. Let the games begin.

Fury 69 tests....32 tries..... 10 against Oz/NZ.
JJ 10 tests....4 tries.......0 against Oz/NZ

The data is fairly dispositive. That said, neither is a complete outside centre. Fury gets the nod because he is more likely to contribute in a match where the   Bok backs aren't running rampant.

Prove? Does one have to prove the sun will rise the next day? Certain things are a self-evident fact. We have in our wake an entire season littered with peculiar evidences. JJ can't defend and hasn't any more than average service, being little good despite having Kirchner, Habana and Le Roux running rampant all around him. Fourie has a far better rugby brain and does quite well even with little ball. He has also turned the tide of many a test where the Boks were on course for defeat. His record is unmatched by any other centre in South African history! The onus is on JJ to prove himself worthy, and it's a long shadow that has been cast over him. He has been targeted repeatedly and been found wanting, he has failed to shine now in all big tests where the Boks had a real challenge. JJ and Serfontein, two more to dump on the pile of tabloid overhype.

What a bugger up by the bugger! Fancy wanting to dump two outstanding youngsters. The mind boggles!
JJ is adjusting to center play but can always be considered on the wing as well. Jan is a class act and a world juniour player of the year. You really want to dump these two. Bwahahahahhaahhahahahaha

Fourie has been our best 13 since Gerber and there is no doubting he is a good player. He and Jean were a great pair. However, the operative word is WERE.......their time is done and we need to move on.

JJ has been great this year, culminating in an outstanding performance against NZ in the last test, where he showed just what he can do with ball in hand. His performance at 13 with ball in hand in that match has not been witnessed since Gerber graced our fields.

JJ has showed us exactly what a modern test 13 requires to succeed........he needs the pace of a wing and great feet to step. Add to that a frame of around the 100kg mark.........speed, agility and physicality.........Fourie only has the physicality - and therein lies the difference. Fourie is renowned a great defensive organiser, Moz will say that, that is all the hand flapping he does. Fourie also has test experience on his side.

He fits perfectly into Meyers conservative gameplan, with a piss poor combo of du Preez, Morne, Jean and Fourie looking to set our world alight and run rip international defences apart - I cant bloody wait!!

If the Boks want an attacking edge, they need the likes of Willie, JJ, Serfontein and Goosen on board.......they are our best attacking options to ignite the likes of Habana and JP.

JJ has far more attacking options at his disposal than Fourie has ever had......Fourie could never match his speed and feet. JJ is our best 13 option since Gerber, he is better 9 tests in than Mulder, Joubert, Fleck, Snyman and Fourie ever were.

For the record, JJ has only started 9 tests.......one can hardly count his 10 min on the wing last year when he received no ball.

So let me understand you correctly ... of the 7 backline players, you want to replace more than half of them with inexperienced youngsters for a test match against Wales?

No phasing them in? No matter their experience ... or rather the lack of it??

Throw these boys into the deep end and shout out ... "SWIM BOYS ... SWIM!!!!"

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!

Good one, Stupid.

 Dave's Bok backline:

9 Hougaard

10 Jantjies

11 Rhule

12 Mnisi

13 Engelbrecht

14 Volmink

15 Le Roux

Please guys, stop reading his posts..You will be dumber for it!

Fourie has nothing to prove when it comes to JJ. Forget stats, just look at them play. JJ loses us tests, Fourie has been part of some of the Boks best years. He adds a lot more in any situation. If SA is under pressure, JJ will be a non entity. Fourie will stand up! You cant compare the two..One is a club player and the other a decorated Springbok!

Moz, your backline would have Morne at 10 and de Jongh at 13........enough said. Morne a proven failure with a 60% win record in tests and de Jongh a test discard after how many tests?

Corn, just like the Kiwi's on this site know what they are talking about......they see through the Moz type of selections that reap 60% win margins.

Moz you need to start seeing the light.......you are far too conservative, I thought that all those years in the States would have lifted the veil?

I would say that JJ may be stronger on attack. He is faster and looks like he can pass better. They are both strong runners.
I would say that Jaque Fourie is probably stronger in defense, plus he has experience combining with Jean.
In a tight game with no space perhaps Jaque is the better option, but in a faster tempo game JJ could be the better option.

This is all assuming that Jaque is not past it yet. He is still pretty young and should be well rested in the japanese league with only like 16 games per year
I would have started with JJ as the incumbent and brought Jaque in of the bench. Apart from squad rotation the bench player should allways have to outperform the incumbent regardless of age.

Mozart

We have lost the plot again - and this time we lost it big time.   The backline is basically the same backline the Springboks utilized in the years 2010 and 2011 - years where we in internationals from a backline attacking perspective were sub-par in scoring tries.

The tries scored by backline players were individualistic - the backline as a whole was dead as a doornail insofar as that aspect of the game was concerned.

So back to the future again with the evident indicator being that we are not improving - we are stagnant expecting better results than in the past

No OOm, "we" haven't lost the plot. No need for you to share the credit.  The difference is not one of personnel, but of tactics. Do you seriously believe JJ, Willlie and the Woolly Boolie are superior attacking players to Fury, JP and Frans/ Lambie.

Nope under the stodgy coaching of PdV, we lost all attacking nous.
That said, as you know from my team posted earlier, I had the same backline with the one exception of Willie for Lambie. That would have been the best attacking combination.

Mozart

I am going to start a thread about this one - since you have gone off your trolley again and it is time to look at he various players Meyer now his in his backline and look a bit at their history and what they are bound to produce in future.   Easy to blame the coach only - and not the players involved.   Wild and untested statements do not work out - but that is the case with you when you try and divert attention away from very real problems.   In this case Kirchner is not the topic - he is not in the team on Saturday - so that diversion by you would not work out.
