Off-Field Yellow For Jantjies  Apr 08,2012 Written by: Robert Lemmer

Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies has been issued with an off-field yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Johan Goosen.

The incident occurred in the 29th Minute minute of the match between the Lions and the Cheetahs at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Jantjies dangerously tackled opposite number Goosen around the neck and then flung him to the ground.

An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR Citing Commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

In this case the incident was acted on by the referee Mark Lawrence and on further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate.

Jantjies was completely outclassed. It's clear his fanboys have jumped the gun in their estimation of him. More Earl Rose-esque sensationalism.

Agreed not a nice tackle and he has been punished accordingly. However Jantjes is a talented young flyhaf and certainly no ear rose. He is however facing BIG competition forthe Bok 10Jersey from other young flyhalves.

 No trashing Elton please!

Lions need to find a center to replace the washed up Butch James.

For Jantjies to make the Springbok team he will have to move to the EP Queens and become another transformation appointed test Springbok.

Goosen, is light years ahead of him in all aspects of play.

Disagree, prior to Jantjies's injury, he was ahead of Goosen. Goosen is ahead now due to momentum. Its a close call

The entire way Goosen plays the game is vastly superior and he has outplayed Jantjies from game 1. It's not even close to being a contest. Jantjies is a piddly poor decision maker and another myth. Jantjies is only marginally better than Lambie.

Rubbish - Goosen, Jantjies and Lambie are all close - they are all far superior to Morne

.I have looked carefully at the two p[layers invovled on Saturday.   Objectively it is evident that Goosen in fact has more ball sense than Jantjies - that makes him a better ball distrbutor - user than Jantjies.   In defense they are basically on par - but it is the rest where Goosen is the better player.

Lets get it clear - Heyneke Meyer is going to stick to his Bulls and he may even have Meyer around - but clueless he is and clueless he will remain..

I'm not convinced that either of Jantjies or Goosen are the real deal, I see potential but nothing more. Forget the idea that either of them are going to fire up a Bok backline.....that practically is not going to happen. Both appear to run and pass more than the incumbent Bok flyhalf Steyn, but in mine eyes I've yet to see the slightest rewards for their efforts. In other words it's par for the course. I have a habit of comparing players with past greats, just as anyone would compare Fourie Du Preez to Francois Hougaardt, in this instance I'm making comparisons with Jantjies/ Goosen vs Larkham/ Mark Ella, I must confess I see no similarities. Let's compare our best #8 since re-admission Big Joe to the incumbent Bok #8 Spies and lets compare the Rolls Royce of fullbacks to say Kirchner/ Joe Pieterson and Lambie.....on one thing we'll all agree, and that is that it makes for interesting comparisons.

One other point, would the Cheetahs be any worse for wear without Goosen? ..  .. I don't think so, like I've previously said the Cheetahs have adopted their playing pattern long before he came along and the loss of Sarel and Riaan have not diminshed the quality of their game in any shape or form, if anything they're playing with a fair amount more consistency than last year while still maintaining their unique style. More than anything else the Boks need a backline coach, someone in the mould of Eddie Jones. Seeing as we have a living example in the Cheetahs perhaps they should choose  their backline coach. It's as simple as that.

Goosen, in my humble opinion is a far more rounded flyhalf than any other in SA at the moment. Having said that, I don't think it right to start associating Janjties with transformation and affirmative action, as he is certainly a young, brilliant flyhaf in the making who, like his counterparts Lambie and Goosen isstill learning his trade and racking up experience.

I would certainly still go with Morne at flyhalf for the Boks with Goosen as his replacement. Can't beat experience and Morne is still world-class!! Lambie should be at fullback but Plumtree has'nt got another classy player to put at flyhalf so Lambie gets sacrificed....so wrong on so many levels!!!

Denny "More than anything else the Boks need a backline coach........Seeing as we have a living example in the Cheetahs perhaps they should choose  their backline coach" you can't do that - you might start playing running rugby and winning games and getting the admiration of the entire World! Notice I got rid of your suggestion for Eddie Jones - noone wants to watch NFL/American Football!

The most sensible comment here relates to the need for the Boks to get a decent backline coach. This is vital. But enter Ricardo Loubscher. Is this an inspired choice, a bulle selectiobn or the media speculating and getting it wrong. Is Meyer blinded by bulle loyalties?

Could we please all pause a moment and be thankfull we have thrre you ng flyhalves all capable of playing international rugby. goosen looks at the moment the pick of the crop and at barely 20 should improve markedly in years to come. Any idea that these three have reached their peak of performance is patently wrong.
