IS Meyer blind or just plain stupid?

So the casualties are mounting up.One and a halt test for Arno and its all over...very sad but thats the reality isn't it?A few positions are under fire.The number 6 jersey and the number 9 jersey.Also if Steyn gives us his wobbly feet and jelly legs that was plain in sight for all to see then it might even be the number 10 jersey as well.Suddenly our best weapons for attack are misfiring.No fetcher, no tactical attacker and no x-factor.Why in all of this does he keep pushing the buck with Kolisi and Coetzee.? Meyer needs to be careful,any loss from here on in wil turn our respect in to hatred for him.We all will be ready to march the streets shouting,"Why no Brussouw?Why no Cocket?and why not any vote for Lambie?" But we have a real problem.One looming larger then PDV bottom lip.We dont have a replacement fly-half if Lambie and Steyn are injured.Jantjies!?!?!Dont make me laugh.Van Zyl seems like he is willing and ready but I believe Cocket deserves a chance.He has only been nothing then out standing in Europe.He might end up playing for France if we dont watch ourselves.And by the way,Meyer in his own words said that if injuries occurred that he will only be looking over seas for players.Was he talking about Cocket? And then there is the Brussouw dilemma that so plagues Meyers judgment.It is evident that Coetzee is nothing compared to the likes of Brussouw and if Meyer doesn't act rightfully in this respect he might loose more then he will ever know.Years from now when he is sick and old dieing in his bed it will haunt him the none selection of Brussouw.

Meyer is an enigma. I do not think he ever finds out about the deficiencies of the players he selected to the squad and find excuses for their poor performances. The deficiencies are endless with half of the players under-performing this year in Super 15 as well as the two tests played to date. Lets go back to last year - he picked Morne Steyn at flyhalf and even when he flopped test after test. He kept him until the Championship could not be won. He then went for Goosen and after that for Jantjies. Goosen started off well - got injured and then was left with Jantjies and Lambie. He never until the EOYT year used Lambie at flyhalf and stuck with the out-of-form Steyn and poor Jantjies. He named a 32 player EOYT squad and stuck with those squad players ever since - with exceptions in the case of injure players only. His first training camp this year consisted entirely from that EOYT squad - even though half of the players had atrocious performance records in Super 15 and some did not even make the franchise Super 15 starting line-ups anymore. He then called up some additional players to his second camp and included Le Roux and a few other Cheetahs and Catrakillis to the camp - with NO INTENTION to select any of them in the tests. Injuries to his favoured players caused havoc and he ended up with Le Roux being the only player from outside of the EOYT squad to make the starting line up this years tests. Now back to the question asked by you in respect of Meyer and as outlined below would like to add a third - namely disregard to player performances.. STUPIDITY I do not think Meyer is stupid. He realises the importance of all components of the game - but then select players who cannot contribute to those components on a positive basis. He then believes that deficiencies can be coached out of him through coaching. He may have a bloated idea about the role and impact can have on players - ignoring natural abilities and deficiencies - which are difficult to be solved by coaching. Meyer also believe implicitly that he cannot be wrong in player identification and once he has identified a player - that player cannot get out of selection - but for injury. DISREGARD FOR FORM He seems to be impressed by the norm - once in hi squad - always in his squad. He completely disregard forn and would stick with players who failed last year and was poor in Super 15 this year. Of the list of player in his starting line up the only players who impressed in Super 15 were Le Roux (a stand-in player whom h selected only because of injury to his preferred candidates), Engelbrecht (despite some question marks as to his defence), De Villiers, Morne Steyn ( without regard to the one-dimensionality), Botha and Strauss. The rest were ranging from poor to ineffective in Super 15. Habana returned to form in the first test this year - but for the rest the remaining under-perforners kept on being under-performing in the two tests and in the case of Morne Steyn took a turn for the worse in the second test. So the impression gained is that insofar as Meyer is concerned performance is of no importance and he remains absolutely addicted to players who constantly let the team and Meyer down - finding a constant string of excuses for their non-performance - or merely ignoring the form of players. BLINDNESS I do not think he really is blind - I think he wears blue-tinted glasses and those switch off when his favoured Bulls players misfired, He has however other favourites as well - who misfired this year; Meyer's main fault line is his player selections and his absolute preference for certain players - whom he believe should perform well - even if they fail. In that he is like Saffex - never see anything which he prefers not to see. The preference issue is the problem here - definitely not anything to do with his being blind. Meyer last year admitted he made mistakes in player selection - yet he has learned nothing from his mistakes and keep on with what he did last year. He effectively has a brain block and refuse to remove that from his approach to the game.
