This from 365 could have been written last week

13 Jan Serfontein:
Powerful with ball in hand, as always, even if he is a touch predictable. Was solid on defence.

10 Pat Lambie:
Some great tactical appreciation, but also a few poor options. Did get the Boks out of trouble with some great kicking and took the ball to the line, but threw a couple of sloppy passes. Not his most consistent performance.
5/10

9 Cobus Reinach:
Real mixed bag - some moments of sublime skills, mixed with a number of unforced errors and wasted time over the ball - overall a satisfactory day.
6/10

 No Mozart
You have all t he wrong players with your BS comments above:-
Gurthro Steenkamp
Useless scrumming - first scrum a disaster and nothing better subsequently.
Victor Matfield
How many bugger-ups per game is allowed?  Penalties - disruption of the backline - BS line out performance - you name it he did it.
His ratuing is a joke in bad tatse.  Took  only 4 line outs losing 1 on own through and was a prorblem by loitering around in the backline w here he buggered up at least one and possibly two backline moves.  Gave away two penalties as well Were worth nothing more than 4/10.  When will the bloody hype end?
When will the penny drop about those two geriatrics?

Moz, I still believe Lambie is our best kicker, next best would be Reinach. I'm not saying that it's great but it's better than Pollard's or Hougaard's. Willie is another average kicker.

Boring game. Nowhere near the standard of the two games to follow.

Goosen doesn't look like much of a fullback. A nice run or two but it took him 26 minutes to get his hands on the ball for the first time. Didn't look interested in fielding any high balls or getting himself too involved.

Boks attack is stagnant and predictable and quite inept at times. Habana running across field, canceling out a 3 on 2 overlap before sending Jean into touch with his pass basically sums it up. Only when Willie came on did some gaps start opening up, helped by some decisive distribution by Pollard. I'm pretty sure he would have put JP away with a proper torpedo pass instead of the dipping lob Lambie tossed.

Reinach's service was about as slow as Pienaar's today. Running 2 or 3 steps before passing means the defense gets a chance to get 2 or 3 steps closer to the receivers. Unnecessary pressure. Pretty disappointing.

I don't often comment on refs but Garces was crap.

The one high ball Goosen tried to take he was bumped out and it resulted in a penalty.  The rest of the toime he did not tget many balls to collect and he was very good when joining the backline.
The problem was there were too many forwards loitring in the backkline and Matfield thus buggered up two potentially good attacking moves.

I see Matfield is still being hit back in the tackle. OUr problem is our forwards, too dense to adapt, too dense to learn from their mistakes, and they don't have any attacking nous

The problem is that Matfield was moonlighting inthe backline.   That pass that Pietersen knocked on with an open tryline was not meant for him - but for the player inside of him.    It was clear as daylight - but who was the player inside of Pietersen - it was Matfield - who did not go for the ball - but left it for Pietersen - who could not cach it properly.  The second case was tha of Willie l Roux passing the ball to Matfield and he nevr even attempted to catch t - hung back and the ball went to ground.
If Matfield was where he should have been and a backline player was in teh position where he was - the attacks would not have faltered the way it did and the forwards may not have strugged  the way they did.   Mind you Matfield is useless up front in traffic and he is a liability in the backline - so what is new? .

Mallett singled out Steppie for criticism
'It was a very stuttering performance by the Boks. We played into the hands of a physical, defensive side like Italy. When Italy had the ball they showed more variety and skill, with the ball going through the hands more than our backline did. We were our own worst enemies with our running lines – particularly Jan Serfontein, who goes straight across the field instead of straightening and creating space."

We need an effective 13 to partner Jean.

De Jongh is crap =- and that was proen in the 2012 tests he played in- his defnesive record over the last two years in Super 15 was sickeining - he cannot create space for anybody to attack in and can finish things other players started for him.  A hopeless case of an average player that should not be anywhere near the Springbok squad.
Yes it was so evident in the EOYT of 2012 when he went AWOL that he does not belong in the squad at all.

The only penny that needs to drop is the one Bakkies called on himself. Utterly useless players like Matfield, Steenkamp and Jean need to follow the great man's example and piss off so that Bok rugby can progress.

Saffex it is not worth the effort to try and make sense with our Eagle know all.
Agree with your comment on the oldies following Bakkies example.

I think the problemis that Serfomntein and De Villiers are both playing like inside centers - none of them can make space for players outside of them or for naybody else.  If the full back comes into line they kill the game by crashballing - thus eimenating any potential overlaps.
The real problem is we have not really got a 13 of sufficient ability.  Ypou favour JP Pieterrsen - but he lost so much pace - resulting in crap defence.  Your other favourite is Jacque   F iurie - alsospeed deficient - reliable in defense and totally useless in attacking play.   We can only hope that utlimately De Allende and Hanekom coms to the fore during the upcoming Super 15.
I think Hanekom was very good for the Lions in the CC and De Allende will play at 13 for the Stormers to make him more used to that position.   For the res there is really only Jordaan and then a huge void.

JJ should never have been dropped in the first place. de Allende should have been given plenty of time off the bench at 13. Hanekom should have been introduced into the squad and another being wasted on the wing is WP's Kobus v/Wyk, he has 13 written all over him.
Players like Pat Howard and Tyler Fisher are young gems at 13 not being used by WP and the Sharks.
We have 13 options to burn but a blinded coach incapable of seeing past washed up has beens like Jean and Fourie or playing a classy youngster in Jan out of position.

I agree, we should be able to move on from Jean. He is not  the player he was at  the last RWC. Unfortunately I have never seen such a poor set of new options at Bok level....so Jean soldiers on, not what he was, but still strong in will to strive , to seek, to find  and not to yield. Tennyson had it right, a good oldie is better than a bog ordinary boy scout.

Tenyson is right _ but he puts in the word "good" before "oldie"   If an oldie is not good anymore - he should b discarded - especially in the game o rugby.   And there are oldies who are not good anymore.
I can still see a place for jean iand Habana n the team - but if he deteriorates as much as he did in the past year - then the "good" will not apply to him anymore.
Bakkies realized he was not up to standard anymore and opted out.  Those where the "good" has gome out of the window still in include Matfield and Jannie.   Hop[efully Super 15 will sort out those two abd indicates whther Jean has got over his problems of this year.

Gosh....I must have missed how the Bools centres dominated. They didn't? But no worries it's the coach and the game plan.
