Fat Albert usually saves his best performances for the end of the year tour. He is better on the softer pitches as a loosie, and half in between a lock and loosie in S hemishpere conditions these days. His work rate has been too low this year as a loosie.
I think Schalk will bring more than Juan Smith. On that note I think fat Albert had allready lost his numbe 7 position.

I have said for a long time now that Alberts usage is extremely limited - because of three major problems, namely -
* his inability to perform all functions of a loosie - for instance in respect of breakdown ball protection and recovery;
* lack of ball skills - both in passing and catching balls
* his very low work rate in games, coupled to deficient and ineffective ball carries and and the frequency with which he misses tackles..
The above is augmented by deficient speed and the fact that e always arrives late at breakfown points and when he does he stands aropund behind mauls and let other players do the hard grind. .
Personally I am not sure whether the answer is in fact Juan Smith - if it is - it will be on the short term only - he is 33 next week and that counts against maintenance of the required performance level, more so in the long run. I also doubt whether Burger is the answer - he seemed to have run out of steam in recent matches and he has or injuries keeping. him off the field often.
Meyer will hopefully find a player with good enough ball skills and a more effective work rate to fill the position.

Burger ran out of steam by 2009. The guy was awful in 2010 and only a bit better the year after that. Kolisi actually added more to the Stormers when Burger got injured. He just aint up to snuff in my view. Juan is a true Bok hero in every way, if he makes it the Boks will be way better. Alberts is a lock to me like you guys say, he is way too slow for loosie and I dont think he is that great in the northern conditions either. We get those conditions in new zealand and he was off the boil there (we actyally play our best rugby in new zealand rather than at home, wierd one that). Mike, if Schalk or Juan dont make it then who else do we have? Whats happening to arno botha? That could shake things up big time. Maybe spies could fill the role as that 7 carrier? I think he is strong enough as a carrier and usually good on defence. Better than Alberts anyways.

Schalk was exposed in 2005 as a slow crashballer. He can tackle but thats it. The guy was awful in 2012 and Kolisi made an immediate improvement. He was nowhere in 2011 (statistically bettered by Spies) and was god awful in 2010 where small aussies were manhandling him. wake up you silly beanbag! Juan was the carrier of our loose trio for years and when brussow came in the boks were unstoppable even with snorkle! face it buddy, schalk is just the little poster boy that the old guard harken to to make their irrelevance in the new south africa hurt a little less. juan is the best bok 7 flank of the last thirthy years easily and brussow the best 6. the mighty skulk nowhere.
"Burger's exit saw the introduction of Siya
Kolisi who made a real impact in the 29th minute when he scored the
hosts' second try from a driving maul at a line-out."

Gonz ou Schalk was SA Rugby player of the year in 2011 - you say he was nowhere. Wahahahahhahahahahahaha!
What is Gonz ou the grunt smoking!
In 2012 schalk hardly played oak he was injured early in the season! He has been out for some two years.Neither Juan Smith or Brussouw as far as I can see ever were SA Rugby players of the year and never IRB world rugby players of the year
Only a kamp ss mole could be this dumb! Hahahahahahahahaha "face it buddy, schalk is just the little poster boy that the old guard harken to to make their irrelevance in the new south africa hurt a little less".
Very odd and racist remark Gonz ou. Seems you have a chip on your shoulder?
Perhaps you should replace Juan with Schalk in your "analysis"? why does recognising schalks amazing career warrant that stupid comment?

look at the stats, was worse thn both spies and brussow. best player pf 2011 in reality? frans made the biggest contribution until his injury. But hey, Watson was voted the best player in south africa for years look how that turned out! the award means squat. many duds have won the award.
my remark isnt racist its fact. schalk is a chump. the tool did nothing in 2011 to deserve the award so why he get it? obviously favouritism at work.
