All Black and Crusaders fullback and wing Israel Dagg has retired from rugby with immediate effect after failing to recover from a knee injury.

I rate Dagg as one of the best outside backs New Zealand has produced since the glory years of Christian Cullen and Jeff Wilson. Don't think he had a long career ahead of him but it's sad to see whatever career he had left cut short, especially when it was clear that he still had a lot he wanted to prove.

I wish him well. A great player and I hope he continues to make a contribution the game he served so well.

Sorry to hear about that,  He was top class in 2012 and then had a long string of injuries that reduced his performances badly.   Hope he has a good life outside of rugby.

His tactical kicking or shotgun boot was perhaps his best attribute in test rugby. He had a long kick like Naas Botha or even Frans Steyn in his prime. It was dejecting for the Springbok forwards to win territory and for him to just boot them back 70 metres from his 22.
The other aspects of his game were also very good, as he was unpredictable. Maybe not the most naturally gifted or fast runner around, but it was hard to predict what he was going to do- and he linked well with his wingers.

Yes Dagg was a fine player and one wishes him well.

Cullen was used in a clever way as he was put into gaps and had only to run in the try for the most part.

Really wouldn't rate him too highly but I guess he is the fragile type of player rooitwit likes.

Beeno

WHo wouldnt you rate highly? Cullen or Dagg?

Cullen was the best running fullback the world has ever seen.

"Cullen was used in a clever way as he was put into gaps and had only to run in the try for the most part." - HAHAHAH WHAT CRAP YOU SPEAK .

HE MADE THE GAPS!!!! Look at the video below.

The best fullback ever, perhaps the best rugby player ever.  What made him so good was that he could step off both feet and at full speed.  Most players will slow down when they step. This is why he made it look so easy because the tacklers would slow down to try react to his stepping.

Don't worry too much about Baboon-ou . . . he knows as much about great rugby fullbacks as he knows about the Scriptures . . . or about as much as Moffie understands about science.

Hahaha......well there is this gem, the ...er ...genesis of Peeper's 1000 minute day and earth spinning on the sun theories: 'The length of a day - as most people - know - is the speed at which the earth spins on its axis, not the sun' So I can see why you slimed off the original thread Peeper, you were toast as usual.
