Heyneke "my bloed is blou" Meyer has just named Bakkies Botha to rplce Etsebeth who is banned for a head-butt.

Does this mean we hav no other locks? What about Bresler, Sykes or even Franco? Whats next, Danie Russow????

maybe he picked Bakkies cuz head butting is the only thing Bakkies did well in his last year.

 Interesting, maybe he feels that he needs a bit of experience the pack is rather inexperienced to be honest.

Bakkies apparently has been playing really well I have however just heard not seen any evidence of it. We will wait and see, for now i have no issues with the call up. I would ratherplay Bakkies than Flip cause flip is a walking penalty.

Provided bakkies is fit its a great idea. Brad was a couple of years older than Bakkies and still playing test rugby for nz. Never as good a lock as Bakkies though.

Agreed, I have no problem with Bakkies playing, it makes perfect sense to me. He is experienced and respected. A good move in my opinion. I really cant stand Flip, he never seems to do anything except jog away from a penalty he has just given away....and that is coming from a Bulls supporter.

to be fair i am a bit on the fench about this decision. its sends the wrong signal to the local based players saying there not good enough but we wil rather go overseas so in terms of building a long term group of players HM once again goes for the quick fix of going to the tried and tested. if he was part of the plans then surely bakkies should have been in the group from the start.

it will work but this seems like a move by a coach under fire.

i agree with carpetmuncher, desperation is the biggest motivation. but i dont know if it will work???

bressler, franco van der mewe, all these guys were more then capable and i wouldnt be surprised to see both of them and many others in SA to move overseas after their contracts are up, i mean obviously theres no hope for them in the Springboks under meyer.

Brad Thorne was 37 years old last year. In any case, unlike Thorne, Bakkies is a top quality lock. Who else is there? Flip? Rossouw? I thought Alberts showed his best performances as a lock last year. Not much else going, and Bakkies offers experience AND a real hard edge no other lock has ever brought to the game. And Halavato, what was it that Eben did to Sharpe in plain sight? Please think before you gab off.

How many people on this Board loives in the past.  Is Botha an answer to our future performances and WC 2115?   Absolute crap decision - this one.

@requisecat,

wrong, brad thorn was 36 last year. and each to their won, but thorn was a quality lock, unlike bakkies who done nothing for the last 3 years except cry like an evangelist after his many on the field indiscretions.

the only thing bakkies will offer are some kickable penalties for the All Blacks and a prescription for an inhaler after the All Blacks run his lumbering ass into the ground.

The other thing Bakkies offers is head butting, specially when the other teams smallest playr is on the ground & Bakkies can head butt him frm behind!

Rather Bakkies than Sykes,Bresler or Franco. It is not a decision for the WC 2015 but who do you wanna see Flip Flop???? There is nobody else at this stage, Eben is miles ahead of any other NO 4 lock.

Alternative could be Alberts at 4.

Bring in the Bakkies!!!!
