But which players outside the squad can enhance it?

Id start with players in the squad who are starting to fade and who potentially have never really shone

Two spring to mind - Mostert and Kleyn - they both need to go

So who outside the current squad would enhance it?

At fullback we have Fassi, we need a real back up - Outside the squad - Jordan Hendrikse could be that back up - he started well, but post injury has not set the world alight - but he is physical, has good feet and a huge boot

On the wing we have Kolbe, Arendse and Edwil - Outside the squad - Seb de Klerk on current form would definitely add value as would the creative pocket rockets Quan Horn and Tyrone Green

At 13 we have Jessie - he is solid but getting on. Moodie is a handy back up who needs time there. Outside the squad - Julius and Henco v Wyk are great prospects who definitely would add value. Am looks to be toast

At 12 we have de Allende who is the wrong side of 30. Esterhuizen looks set for a new hybrid role which takes him out of contention as the regular starting 12. Willemse is the obvious choice at 12, with Hooker hopefully sooner than later being used at 12 to see what he has to offer. Outside the squad - David Kriel would definitely add value

At 10 it’s Sacha, Libbok and Pollard with no outsider looking to add value right now

At 9 it’s old man Reinach, with Williams and vd Bergh in tow. Outside the squad - Papier on current form would add value. Pead the brilliant Baby Bok will add value soon and I can’t help but think Nohamba deserved a crack.

At loosehead we have Ox, Steenkamp and Boan Venter. Along with utility option Wessels. Outside the squad - Mchunu if his scrumming is up to it, would add value

At hooker we have Marx, Wessels and Grobelaar. Outside the squad Dweba and AH Venter would add value

At 3 we have Wilco and Thomas. Young Porthen is a new addition and Nthlabakanye pending a drug hearing is hanging on by a thread. Outside the squad Hanro Jacobs, Sadie and Frans Klopper would add value

At lock we have Eben, Lood, RG and Nortje. Outside the squad, the physical Cobus Wiese would add value as would door bashing down Ruben v Heerden. Injured Ruan Vermaak would also add value, as would JF v Heerden. Potentially vd Mecht could be the answer at 4 if he gets into better shape as he is making waves, literally at Northampton Saints

Loosies we have Siya, Kwagga, v Staaden, BJ Dixon, PSDT and Wiese. Outside the squad Roos, Hanekom, Elrigh Louw, Vincent Tsituka would add obvious value. As would the likes of Buthelezi, Ludwig, Ruan Venter, Augustus and Manu Tsituka

Of these value adders - Roos, Hanekom, Elrigh Louw, Vincent Tsituka, Cobus Wiese, Ruben v Heerden, AH Venter, David Kriel, Jurenzo Julius, Seb de Klerk and Jordan Hendrikse are musts

Good summary Dave….I’d look for an additional flyhalf though, so much depends on Sacha. In aggregate though, no other country has half those resources.

Yeah the one who has put his hand up lately is Stormers 10 Jurie Matthee

Baby Bok Vusi Moyo looked handy but nothing special

The one lad that hopefully will come crashing through is Wynberg’s Yaqeen Ahmed - he was injured at the time the SA under 18 series was played but there is something Sacha about him.

We are thin when it comes to 10 and 15

Wish our senior guys would watch that Ahmed grubber. Perfectly weighted….it’s almost always over kicked.

He was playing for the SA under 18A side in year 10, then played for the SA under 18 side in 2024 in year 11 and then missed out through injury this year

He was invited to train with this years Baby Bok side while still at school

So let’s hope he makes it as a pro

One of my good mates son, was at school with Yaqeen so he knows him well. Says he has the Sacha vibe about him

I was watching an interview with him - he looks to have spent all his time off injured in the gym - very muscled up - not sure if that’s a good thing for a 10
