but talk of Cheika's replacement has already started, one familiar name is that of Jake White.
It's early days yet
It's madness to expect anyone to turn a team around within a few months of the world cup.
They should have fired him ages ago ... it's a little too late now.
It can be done. Jake can do exactly that.
Hope Jake can - but his recent record with the Sharks and Monpellier was not all that convincing. He may or may not succeed if he is assisted by a proper backline coach.
My money is on the fact that he would not get the job anyway.
The problem is the tight five. It is by far the weakest in the top 10 rugby nations. I think Jake White could be a good option- as he turned the Brumbies around quickly.
Keep Larkam as backline coach, and make Jake White head coach to cover defence and forwards.
White even taught the Brumbies how to do driving mauls, and stop the oppositions getting theirs going.
White is probably a good match for Australia, as their weaknesses is his strength
Larkham has been a very poor attack coach. Likewise Gray, who sullied the Waratah's proud defensive records before elevation to the Wallabies. As bad as Cheika has been, his assistants haven't aided the cause.
The Aussies need someone who understands the core ethos of a culture and team. Jake showed with the Brumbies that he can do this for an Aussie team, whilst shoring up their weaker points. This is a coach who beat the British Lions with a heavily depleted Brumby side. He can find a way. Australia has enough resources to be considerably more competitive.
