Good lord that is a terrible article! You can see the rugby union season in SA has come to an end. Anyway, don't the super hero's normally win something at the end of the day? Our Super Rugby hero's can't beat an egg at the moment.

I honestly wouldn't know SB. I can't stand the whole super hero genre. This Hollywood infatuation with comics has almost single handedly ruined cinema. I'd say 50% of the movies coming out these days are based in some or other form on bloody comics. The whole genre is shallow, corny, unoriginal, unbelievable and pretty much encompasses the growing stupidity of humanity in general.
The super hero genre is to cinema, what WWE is to sport.

I agree bluebok. The superhero movies are all stupid. Special effects junk for adults who haven't progressed beyond comic books.
It's an indictment of our society today that these formulaic glorified kids movies are all box office hits. I'd gladly pay the admission price not to go see Iron Man 3 or Batman 8 or whatever number they're up to.

I am glad I am not alone in my utter contempt for comic based movies. My judging of the box office success of the rubbish, had me thinking I was.

Bluebok, I have to make an exception for movies that were based on graphic novels rather than comics.
There have been a few decent movies that were based on graphic novels . . . like "A History Of Violence", "300", "Sin City" and "Road to Perdition" . . . but none of those were superhero films . . . although I suppose a case could be made for Leonidas in 300 being pretty close to a superhero . . . maybe Marv from Sin City as well.

I'm quite happy to switch between reading Cloud Atlas and watching Iron Man. Some of the comic based movies are tedious, usually the later pool outs.....but Iron Man was terrific for example. So are all the Japanese animated movies which I watched with my grandkids.
And Avatar has to be one of the most stunning creative efforts in cinema history.
Open the mind....next time you are in London go to the Tate and sit for 10 minutes in the Rothko room.

The rest of us saw this as a light-hearted story that allowed us to crack a few jokes about the Marvel/rugby combination and chat about movies . . . but along comes the utterly humourless, boring and self-absorbed old fossil to tell us to stop being indignant and rather listen to him rattle off all the pretentious books he's read and art Galleries he's visited.
I mean, seriously . . . what a conceited old fop Moffie really is.
Avatar remains by far the best 3D movie ever made and it was a very watchable movie . . . except it's not based on comic books or graphic novels, it was conceived and written by the director James Cameron . . . so including it on a thread like this is massive ignorance . . . and hilarious irony, coming from a trumped up and common little man trying to sound so erudite and sophisticated.

To suggest Avatar has no links to to the comic book movies is naive.....comics/video games and movies all synergize off each other. The Matrix went into all 3 forms....and Avatar was preceded by the video game, read and learn:

No the video game came first....but the comic books influenced both. Not surprisingly Avatar has been made into a comic returning to it's comic roots.
