that Willie has taken to Test rugby like a duck to water....well now that he is in his right position as a wing. It's early days yet but there's a few things I like about him, for starters he brings a much needed dynamic to the back three, he thinks on his feet and is a good reader of the game. He can sell a dummy which proves that he is a double thinker and although not express speed like Habana he does carry a bit of zip,I think he's just the type of player the Boks need going forward.
Disagree, Willie's best spot is 15 where he is able to roam and feed off more action. Often wings are left out to dry, you never have that issue with a fullback.
Willie should be our 15, for without him there we have to endure Kirchner.
I'd be happy to have Willie on the wing, if Taute was fit to play 15.
I thought you wanted Taute to play 13, so he is our best choice at 15 and our second best choice at 13. Quite a compliment.
JJ is the best 13 prospect I have seen in ages, no-one in SA comes close.......his speed and feet are unrivalled.
Am a big Taute fan and he is comfortable at 15 or 13, with JJ at 13, logic dictates that he play 15. I'd want both in my starting 15. Taute would be my second choice 13 without doubt.
There are a number of promising young 13's about but sadly they are getting little exposure. Pat Howard made a great start to his CC career only to get injured and now we have de Jongh back in his place sadly.
The Lions had impressive Stokkies Hanekom who reminds me of Fourie, making waves, but he too is now injured.
The Sharks are playing Ludik out of position at 13 instead of investing in some of their youngsters like Tyler Fisher and Esterhuizen, the Bulls are playing Murray instead of Baby Bok, Dries Swanepoel or Rohan Janse v/Rensburg..........these youngsters should be playing
Gosh and there I was thinkiIng Taute is heavier and slower than Fransie.....with one move, an inside step. After which he falls down when touched by any defender.
Taute will be back to play many tests for the Boks..............I dont get your take on him at all. Meyer is a big fan so my guess is that he will be proving his detractors wrong much like JJ has.
If Taute plays the same way he did for the Stormers this year before injury he will not make the Springbok match day squad.
His only option going forward is at fullback, but based on what he delivered for the Stormers it is just not up to standard.
He is not a center full stop and this debate ended amongst the educated long ago. He is a creatine crashball at center and just does not have the brains to play in this positon.
Jean, JJ and Serfontein can cover the 2 center positions, and other players are better than the Taute
I doubt that Meyer is a big fan of Taute as his kicking game at fullback is not great.
If Frans Steyn was fit and in top form he would probably be the starting 15. He has many of the attributes that Meyer looks for from a player.
He has a massive boot and is the biggest back in South Africa. Meyer likes a fullback that has a strong kicking game as this helps with the territorial battle.
Lambie is also an option at 15 where he could end of at the Sharks again. He has a much better kicking game, but is also a far more intelligent player than Taute.
Dave last I saw JJ he was missing Bosch for a nearly fatal try in Mendoza. I say that because frankly last week I never saw him at all, missing all 2 metres he gained! I wouldn't be too sure he has proven anything yet....the jury is out.
No Meyer is not the benchmark but he is certainly not a complete fool......he has got many selections right like Coenie, Etzebeth, Kolisi, Coetzee, Goosen, Serfontein, JJ, Taute and Willie.......who represent our new players.
My call is that he needs to invest more in these types of selections and dispense with the likes of Kirchner, Morne, Pienaar, Kruger and Steenkamp.
As for the Bosch try, you are wrong.......Bosch was Jannie's man......the inside player always has the responsibility of taking the attacking player heading between defenders......it was a mismatch.......centre on prop........by the time JJ woke up to that fact it was too late. But one certainty is that Bosch was not JJ's man.
As for the Argie try in SA........that had nothing to do with JJ......JJ was faced with a 3 on 1......hardly fair odds and hence the hesitation in not bringing the ball carrier down immediately. Moz, you've played the game......a 2 on 1 creates enough doubt in a defender......3 on 1 takes it to another level.
JJ is without doubt a finisher and not a creator in the conventional inside centre sense. He is not the kind of player who is going to be sniffing out gaps or putting players into space with great hands. But then again he is not a 12. His creativity is a different measure.......he will put players into space through sheer pace, a great step and the art of running good lines......the perfect attributes for a 13.
Its his job to run off the creativity of a 12, to continue the attack and put his wings or fullback into space. His skill set to do this is better suited than any other 13 I can think of. He is only at the start of his 13 journey, he will get even better once he is settled and has a few hard tests behind him.
You cant beat pace and great feet at 13, its exactly what Danie Gerber was about.

We might have had some injuries but we had more than enough talent to choose from to do a better job than Meyer did last year with his selections.
We might have forgiven him for his first year in charge but when his selections this year appear just as conservative and clearly indicate he is going to stick with his pathetic kick and chase game plan then quite frankly the man has no excuse and one can only conclude he is either too stupid to learn and evolve or is just pigheaded and intents sticking with his plan no matter what. I suspect its a combination of both.
Meyer has been a massive disappointment, I had high expectations, his latest squad is an insult and does not reflect the strength of SA rugby.

How can Meyer get it so wrong? For crying out loud we have been calling for his selection for years only to be let down like no other coach given the high expectations.
In the starting 15………Basson, Jean, Morne, Pienaar, Strauss, Jannie, Kruger, Louw. Alberts and Vermeulen are not the best in their respective positions……some of them are not even close……….on the bench, Steenkamp, Flip and Vermaak are not the next best……..that is a total of 13 wrong selections out of a match 23.
Its beyond comprehension that anyone can actually think Meyer is getting it right. Lets talk post the Championship when we are 4-0 down against Oz and NZ with this current side that sells us well short.
I have never been more disappointed in a coach than Meyer. The likes of PDV was a clown and we expected nothing from him, we cant say the same of Meyer for he seemed to have pulled the wool over our eyes for years.

willies best position should be 15....give him much more range to enter the backline at will also give hom more chance to be in the game as on the wing your to a extend give less freedom.
willie is rare talent and deserves his spot.....another player that was not picked in the stormers pool due to the WP rubbish recruitment policies. as any boland based player is automaticly overseen. there is droves of talent just like willie here in the boland. rugby rich area of south africa.
i dont get it, you guys give kirchner flak but willie makes loads of mistakes and you want him at 15? he is terrible at fullback. the kid is talented for sure but putting him on the wing solves a lot of problems for the boks and takes away those fatal errors that could have cost the boks mendoza! he is going to be the next great bok wing if he is left to bloom there.
i agree to disagree. at 15 he can slot in at any moment and the freedom of that will only benefit his natural vision and feel for the game.....on the wing that vision is wasted.
