It sounds all....

fine and dandy reading through the plans of the new National Coaching Blueprint for SA Rugby until one gets to the funny part.....

 

"The aim of the symposium, the first of its kind in South Africa, is to share ideas between coaches from junior provincial to Springbok level, with seminars planned by the three Springbok assistant coaches, Johann van Graan, Ricardo Loubscher and John McFarland, as well as national coaching consultants Pieter de Villiers, Louis Koen and Chean Roux."

 

I don't know Chean Roux or his credentials but the other two??....to steal a quote off John McEnroe...."You can't be serious"!!

 I'm not to sure about this idea, if all the coaches share idea's then they're going to have a similar gameplan / similar way for opposition to beat them.

 Not necessarily so if it provides a platform for coaches to express their own ideas which to a degree I expect will differ. I think the idea is terrific, I have my doubts about the clowns who pose as national coaching consultants in the face of leaving our most successful coach Jake White of the panel!

I guess that can be a positive, bouncing back ideas with other coaches, a fresh outlook on ones idea can help. Denny if it's the column you read said 'Pieter De Villiers' they mean the Bok scrum coach. Peter De Villiers is the lunatic.

 Great pickup....happy days....that only leaves Louis Koen...can only be for his kicking ability.

Denny, reading the Poison Chalice, it appears that PDV has a place in the future of SA rugby......apparently he is widely loved and would make a good ambassador in promoting the game amongst the people...............he was a poor coach, but by all accounts he could add value........was an interesting read.

The one thing that did stand out was how we under utilize the rugby knowledge we have in the country.......on average, test coaches are in their 50's.......and we have people like Mallett, Markgraaf, Mac, Jake etc who are in their prime as far as coaching ages are concerned and we only have Jake coaching.

All these coaches maintain they have learnt from their mistakes as coaches when they coached the Boks and are better for it now and would not make the same mistakes again

 Actually, it's this sort of thing that develops your coaching culture. Think of the NFL for instance. South African coaches developing new ideas and being exposed to others increases the knowledge base of all levels. It's something that's been sorely lacking for too long. Another bonus is that we learn more about the coaches at the lower ;evels; New Zealand know exactly who fits where in their coaching pecking order, we don't! Then the idea of monitoring players, harvesting data. I can scarcely believe that all this was done by South Africans - We are well known to be passive followers, not innovators. All in all, this is a fantastic idea.

 Yep Sun, it's a great idea with far reaching effects. I also like the idea of putting coaching and money into schools rugby.

We are miles ahead of Australia who have absolutely nothing in place and are now so desparate for cash that every club has to fork out $200 to the ARU.
