of the Proteas 4 pronged pace attack to suggest that it could develop into a fearsome aura much like the Windies of the 80's and 90's. A few things need to happen though, firstly the selectors have to accept that Robin Pieterson is not a Spinner, and secondly, like the Windies of old they can win without a Spinner. The case for an all pace attack becomes even stronger when one considers that of the four, three have genuine pace, and one, Vernon Philander, bowls a lovely line and length in the corridor of uncertainty.
The added value is that there isn't a sameness about our bowlers, whereas Morkel has bounce and pace, Steyn has movement either way at pace and Parnell skids it through at pace, Philander I put in the Shaun Pollock/ Glen McGrath mould. The Ozzies were the first to have a taste of the above and we all know the consquences.
Elgar offers more spin than Pieterson and in tandem with JP adds more variety to the attack. Are the selectors bold enough to make the shift?
