Kwagga Smith is set to start at openside flank for the Springboks in their Rugby Championship encounter against the All Blacks in Wellington, Afrikaans newspaper Rapport hinted on Sunday.

National coach Rassie Erasmus is planning to select his best XV for the New Zealand clash on July 27, with a 'B team' taking on the Wallabies at Ellis Park this Saturday (July 20).

Smith boasts only one Test cap - achieved against Wales in Washington DC last year - but has impressed Erasmus in this year's Super Rugby competition.

Pieter-Steph du Toit and Duane Vermeulen will also be part of the Bok loose trio for the Wellington Test.

The report added that Du Toit, Francois Louw and Rynhardt Elstadt will form the loose trio against Australia this weekend, with Marcell Coetzee on the bench.

Erasmus will pick a group to travel earlier to New Zealand, but it appears as though Du Toit will start in both Tests as he seeks game time after recovering from a shoulder injury.

There we have it, J-Raz doesn't rate Coetzee as a starter and best South African 6, 7 or 8. What does this mean for Quotalisi?

I like the Kwagga, Du Toit, Vermeulen option. One very mobile player that can also play to the ball in Kwagga, one bruiser in Du toit that works hard, and another bruiser that can also play to the ball in Vermeulen. A nice balance in my opinion. You mention Kolisi, he can then play in his ideal position, off the bench covering either 6 or 7 seeing as though he is adequate in either position, but not great in either.

I'll be very interested to see how Kwagga fares. His Welsh debut was poor, so he has a shot to make a strong amends. No doubt he was one of the better South Africans in this years SXV. I'll say this, he can't possibly be worse than Kolisi! I'll be watching Steph's defence. I still don't buy into him at 7.

Dan Du Preez is our best 8 and should be ahead of the elderly Vermeulen.

Vermeulen can come on in the last 20. He'll probably need a little lie down after. He is no longer a starter. Why he's there to begin with boggles the mind.

Rassie sure knows how to motivate his squad. He divides them down the middle ... the useless to stay behind ... while the little less useless to travel to NZ.

Whatever happened to competing for spots in the run on side?

I'm sure those staying behind will be delighted in how their coach sees them ... the "B" team.

Go Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lou was useless last year in tests and it is a miracle why he is still in the squad.   Both Elstadt and Coetzee are better loosies than Louw.   Give Louw another chance - he will just discredit himself further than he already did.   .

Things sure have changed.

Once upon a time the fan would insist on the best of the best players being selected for the Boks.

No longer ... now we're happy with the "adequate" player. He's good enough for our avid supporters.
In fact ... let's make that "adequate" player our captain too.
... and we call ourselves Bok fans ...

Yeah right ... !!

Eraser Head is a gimmick coach. This is bound to create division within the team....I can't think of one practical thing this poser has done to make the Boks better. And I can think of a lot of things that have got worse......defence, kick chase, scrumming. Which is why he is a 50% coach.

Worse than under Meyer - NEVER.   What has Erasmus done to create divisions in the team?  This is the kind of jargon to expect from non-thinker because of selections that do not include their favourite non-performers.    What a load of BS - how much more do we have to put up wi th from idiots?

Just a few facts = neat New Zealand away and having to start looking for a squad testing poor players in some games are also factual.   What about your division story - BS or factual - of the latter please provide reasons.

Why do you always insist on bringing another person into the discussion? Why can't you justify J-Raz on his own body of work? I can evaluate Meyer's work without having to compare him to anyone else. What you do is the mark of someone who needs to draw a comparison to create the impression of success, of progression. It isn't working, because we know better.

One win away in New Zealand. What else? England loss x2, New Zealand x1, Wales loss x2, Aussie loss x1, Argie loss x1. This is supposedly better than Meyer losing 3 of 12 in 2012.

You're delusional Mike. You can keep the king of the aimless kick.

They played 12 tests in 2012 and the fact is that they drew 2 and won 6 and lost 4 is suddenly the norm to be aspire to and prove that Meyer was better than Erasmus as a coach.   Fact is that there are other norms as well - which they try to cover up or lied about,  Those were the 2018 team beating NZ for the first time in near to a decade and the number of tries scored by the Sprinboks which they ignore.

And then there is the spreading of lies about the experimental teams played by Erasmus in at least two of the tests they played in,   Spite and venom has no limit in their cases.        .

Wrong again goof, won 7 and loss 3.

Spite and venom? Spite is disregarding the tries of 2013 because they weren't "real tries", that these were "moral losses".

Ignored tries? How could I ignore this when I started a thread on the very subject! You are very sloppy, either that or so arrogant that you disregard the possibility of anyone identify your fallacious twaddle. I also did something you didn't do, put the Bok tries and attack figures per year in context with the rest of the rugby world, identifying attack and defence trends. This made you very angry, because it showed how defence has deteriorated over the years. Remember that? It showed that the Boks and All Blacks weren't running as rampantly as teams do today, that tackle figures were much higher, tackles percentages were much higher. So no, you ignored these things, not me. Why? Because you are a deeply embittered old man who hates the truth everywhere you see it.

If you want an interesting stat, the Boks conceded 38 tries under Rassie last year, more so than the Boks conceded under Coetzee in either 2016 or 2017. He was supposed to reinstate robust and accurate defence. What happened? Not only that, but the Boks are a much less effective attacking side. The Boks lost 4 tests last year, not 7.
