  • Cape Town - Stormers fullback Jaco Taute's season is likely over after a horror injury sustained against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Taute severely damaged his anterior cruciate (ACL) knee ligaments when he was tackled by Cheetahs winger Willie le Roux midway through the first half of the Super Rugby clash.

Taute, 22, is currently on loan at the Stormers from the Lions for the duration of the Super Rugby competition.

The Cheetahs won the game 26-24, with flyhalf Burton Francis kicking a penalty after the hooter had sounded

Looks like his season is unfortunately over.

His contract with the Lions ends this year and

I wonder if the Stormers will make an offer for next year.

Based on his performances so farI would say that he does not

bring much to the table.

As like his performances at center for the boks

he just does not offer much and usually goes to ground

with the ball.

I am yet to see him find space, or

break tackles in traffic to get into space.

His passing skills appear very limited and he does seem to look

around for any support runners when he has the ball.

I am surprised he was selected for the boks last year and this year

he has not looked much like a Springbok.

Would have been good to give me more game time to see if he could find

form.

I expect he will probably sign an overseas contract within the next

2 years and doubt that he will get more than a few bok

caps at best.

Sharkbok

I suspected this was what happened before you provided the terrible news.

I really am very sorry for this guy - it means he is out of rugby for at least 8 to 9 months.    Poor Jaco - I was hoping that he would improve to be considered for the Springbok team at no 15 - but that is now not possible this year,

If the report is true - it is similar to the injury sustained by Bismarck and more problematic than the knee problems of Goosen.

Really very sorry to hear about that.

Another shocking injury. Is there no end to it. At this rate we will be field a vodacom side by the end!!

What a great disappointment as the Cup was ours for the taking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man we beat the Brumbies and the Chiefies with a badly depleted side. What could we not have achieved!! Sickening  really.

Well Twatbok lets home the Stormers have more sense than a fool like you and that they see the quality in the youngster and dont judge him on a handful of outings off the bench and having had o time to settle at Stormers. Your take on this talented young player is as ignorant as ever. Its a load of old shit, much like most of your posts

Fat Dave, hopefully the Stormers have a criteria to measure performance. Not like your one dimensional- look at the players weight and age.

I take it Meyer used the same criteria to rush him straight into the Bok starting side soon after his recovery from injury - shows how much an ignorant twat like yourself knows. He must really be shit having played for the Baby Boks for 2 seasons and then walked straight into the Bok side after injury

You know your stuff Twatbok, keep up the good work

Suddenly Meyer is an authority because he agreed on something with you.

Although he later admitted his error when selecting Taute as a fullback, not outside center for the End of the year tour.

Only the injury to JP who was selected as an outside center gave Taute the oppertunity to play at outside center

As it was the amount of centers in the end of the year tour was not enough.

Playing for the baby boks is an age group division, nothing like playing for the real boks

It is allways the same predicatable crap from you. Look at all the young players and favour them if they meet your weight requirement- and blame all the established squad players for any poor performance.

Meyer was poor last year but that does not mean he got everything wrong. JP was not selected as a centre, Meyer said he was considering playing JP at centre but that changed when Habana got injured. Taute was good at centre, better than Jean at 13, who was useless and the less said about de Jongh the better.

Meyer got the Taute selection right. The fact that Taute played for the Baby Boks for two years, speaks volumes for his ability.......much like it would have with Goosen and will do with Serfontein - you are so bloody ignorant when it comes to Taute.

As for the age thing, yes player he younger players - look no further than the Sharks use of useless Franco v/d Mewe or Jean playing 13 for the Boks.

As for size, damn right - look no futher than Jordaan being embarassed by Robbie this weekend.

You need to wake up to reality you ignorant twit

Sharkbok

Don't worry about being called an ignorant twit by Saffex.   He is the World President of the norant Twits Society and hopes to find new members all the time.   His reading of games is so one-dimensional that he never saw that Fruaen brushed off one tackle of Jordaan - but got tackled by him five times,  And he never saw that Fruean missed two tackles on Jordaan when he beat him wholesale.   Never saw anything - but to justify his useless arguments on size and weight - as against clever play and effctive play.

By the way - where was Steyn when the game moved to the attack that resulted in the Crusader try.   He was so far away and out of position he could not cover for the missed tackle by Ngubane - which effectively let to that try.   And hen the ridicupous statement that a slow and unfit player whould be selected for a team - purely because his weight and size is acceptable,

No wonder we are dealing here  with the World President of the Ignorant Twits Society - he is only making an unsuccessful drve to recruit new members,

Poor Oom Mike, this is a string about Taute...who you anointed as Bok fullback at the start of the S15. When I told you the proof was in the pudding you went into one of your hilarious rants. Still feel the same way.....huh?

Mozart

I did not change the topic here - Saffex and Sharkbok did.

No  I did not annoint anyone at full back - I said that his past record indicated that he has the potential to be selected at full back and I consistently said one thing clearly - that nobody shoul be selected to the Springbok team other than based on proven performance.  There is a vast difference between that and "annoint".

But you had a hissy fit when I said I didn't think it was an automatic thing. So how come you are now in the position I adopted......not very honest Oom?

You are the big one on seleting people on reputation - I have said performance is the norm,  A repuation player cannot be selected without proven performance.  Was that a hissy fit?

No OOM. When I said I wasn't at all convinced Taute would be any better at fullback.....you told me I was missing the plot. Now, conveniently, you forget all that. If you want to be a prophet, you have to be judged on your prophesies......misguided as they are.

DomMike, its been a long time since I have seen one player dominate the other as Fruean did Jordaan. He embarassed Jordaan and effectively disqualified him from being considered as a serious candidate for the Bok 13 spot. Fruean exposed Jordaan for the small guy he is.

I had high hopes for Jordaan, but Fruean has put paid to that. Jordaan is a talented player with ball in hand, but he cannot be considered for 13 as he lacks physicality. He needs to move to wing.

If you did not see Fruean run straight over Jordaan and then later hand him off like he was not there, then hell knows what you were watching

Dunce Saffex

Imagination running wild again.  Jordaan missed one tackle on Fruean - Fruean missed two on Jordaan.   the first was the only one that counts -there was no second one.  Please keep it real - I know you miss half of the games played in any given coircusmatnces

LiarMike, stop making it up. Jordaan was run over once and handed off the second time. I dont recall Fruean missing Jordaan once

Saffex

Did you miss that episode f the game completely.  There was no handing off - Flurean ws on his knees in the tackle situation and passed the ball off - bullshit as per normal from you.  Misrepresentation or outright lie on your part?

It is obvious you miss out what you never wants to see - standard in your interpretation of games.

Interesting argument about Jordaan and Fruean,'s tackling. I cannot clearly recall who tackled who, when and where, but according to ESPN, Freuan made one and missed one. Jordaan, on the other hand also missed one tackle, but he made eight. Fruean 0 - Jordaan 1

The rest of the comparrison looks like this:

Fruean had one clean break and Jordaan none, but Fruean made 46 m from 14 runs (3.3 ave) and Jordaan 38 from 9 (ave 4.2m). Fruean 0 Jordaan 1.

Fruean beat 2 defenders and Jordaan 3. Fruean 1 - Jordaan 0

Fruean managed 4 off-loads and Jordaan 2. Fruean 1 - Jordaan 0

Fruean managed 1 Turn over and Jordaan none. Fruean 1 - Jordaan 0

Fruean gave away one penalty and Jordaan none. Fruean 0 - Jordaan 1

So, all in all it is:

The experienced Fruean (51 Super Rugby caps) 3/6

The lesser experienced Jordaan (10 Super Rugby Caps) 3/6

Thanks fo rthe dope windpomp. What does Fruean 0 Jordaan 1 etc mean?

Jordaan has vision and the ability to create for others. Hence leave him at center. His defence is okay and will impriove with more experience. He has enough size (91 kg according to a sharks website an dwill grow a bit ) Still looking like  a good prospect.

Yep those were the stats.....but what are we looking for from the stats? The question we are trying to answer is not who had the better game, but can Jordaan defend effectively against the big, fast centres he will meet in test rugby. There were only two incidents that spoke to that question.....the two times Fruean got the ball in space.

Those were classic one on one confrontations.....the kind a test centre has to handle. The first time Jordaan made contact with Fruean 62 metres out and brought him down 52 metres out....Fruean comfortably offloaded for a Crusaders try while Jordaan was hanging onto him. In effect  Fruean got outside Jordaan and made enough metres before he was impeded, I hesitate to say stopped, to get the next Sader past his marker and into space.

About 10 minutes later, we had the same scenario.....Fruean in space lined up on Jordaan. This time Jordaan made a more aggressive tackle attempt, but went too high on the big man......he ended up on his backside. Fortunately this time there was enough cover to snuff out the move.

In this case it doesn't matter what the match stats say, the question of whether we can rely on Jordaan's tackling in space was answered with an emphatic no.
