Jake the Snake rears his head again

So apparently he reached out to Australia to see if he can usurp Cheika from the Australian coaching post.

Surely there must be a code amongst coaches that you simply don't try to push another coach out of a job for yourself. 

It is not the first time that he has done this and have trying his hand at a lot of unions since he lost the springbok job. 

I can now see why SARU didn't want to keep him around. He seems more trouble than what he is worth. 

He thinks because he won the World Cup he should just waltz in to any roll. 

But if you look at the current crop of international coaches. They all paid their dues in the countries the are coaching now. Joe Schmidt was the Leinster coach for 4 years and manage to get them at least 2 European titles. 

Same can be said of Gatland, the only exception was Eddie Jones, but even then he went back and was happy to coach a Japanese side, then got appointed by Japan and then manage to stage an massive upset. Even though Eddie coached the wallabies to a final and a few super rugby titles + Tri Nations. 

It appears if you want to be a foreign coach of a national team you simply have to pay your dues. Not what Jake did, spend 2 years at one of the franchises and then just bugger off because the National job didn't come right

If I was Australia, I'd give him the job.

I don't think Jake is a bad coach, Cheika did get Aus to the finals back in 2015 and won a few games agains the AB's

But it is just Australian rugby that is extremely poor at the moment. 

Jake will make teams very competitive, but he never hangs around long enough. 

Jake just thinks about himself, if he truly wan to help SA out he should go to the Kings and build their grass root level rugby to get the best black talent to play. 

But he doesn't want to spend 4 years in a back water place

This is not the real issue.   What happened thus far is that he tried to get a hearing from the Aussie Board to advance his candidature for a post which at present is not even vacant.   Bad tactical move on his part.

Fact is White also ahs his problems in coaching and some people only look at positives - but there are serious negatives as well.    The Aussie Board if they does fire Cheika -will  look at both and then decide which way they are going to go.  

Jake White can turn teams around like few other coaches.Yes, long term the man almost always runs into trouble or bolts, but if they want a quick fix (and for WC2019 I'd say that they desperately need one), he's the man.

Its just the fact that he is presumptuous, thinking that he can just call and see he is available to shut  that he can get an international job

Mozart I have no problem with White taking over the Wallaby coaching job when offered  - they deserve better than Cheika.   However, it is highly unlikely that he would get the job and I think he fouled up badly if the following is borne in mind:-

Brumbies contract breach

Firstly he breached his contract with the Brumbies when he got miffed about Cheika getting the Aussie job ahead of him.     The Aussies will not like that at all. 

Latest report on White iro the Coaching job

The report reads as follows:-

"Jake White has offered to replace under-siege Michael Cheika as Wallabies coach and was due to have a phone hook-up with Rugby Australia on Thursday, but it was cancelled after news of the call was leaked.

The South African, who steered the Springboks to the 2007 Rugby World Cup title, approached the governing body after Australia won just four of their 13 Tests this year.

Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle has repeatedly said Cheika continues to have her backing to take the team to the World Cup in Japan next year, which is when his contract runs out.

But mounting pressure came to a head after their 37-18 defeat by England last weekend, with calls intensifying for a change of guard. It followed a tryless loss to Wales and an uninspiring win over Italy.

The phone call was to assess what White - a former Brumbies coach - had to offer as a possible alternative, but it was hastily called off after being leaked to the media.

"Jake White approached Rugby Australia and asked to have a conversion," a RA spokesperson told AFP.

"Rugby Australia has decided not to proceed with the call."

White has previously expressed a desire to coach Australia after being overlooked for the job in favour of Ewen McKenzie in 2013.

The Rugby Australia board is due to meet on December 10 for a regular end-of-season review where the future of Cheika, who is currently in Europe, and his coaching team are expected to be discussed.

Several former Wallabies have called for change in the Test set-up after their worst year since 1995, including fullback Matt Burke who said the team was no longer well-regarded by their rivals.

"I reckon that respect factor's gone. We're down at (sixth) in the world, we started at No 3 at the start of the year," he said."

My comments on that is as follows:-

No employer in his right mind will deal with a matter on the basis of a request as highlighted above.   They will not tolerate it - since it sounds very much like Guptagate.   One would assume that White should have known by now that such an approach is not catered for - he tried the same before the appointment of Jones by England and it failed.   

It is under such circumstances  imperative that any interested person should be patient and wait for the Employer to start the process iro replacement.   

Jake is an arsehole...always has been, but he is a good coach.

We were all upset about Jake not getting a contract renewal in 2007.  SARU is a useless body and there was a lot of behind the scenes collusion in that case.   It is unfortunate that the Free State and Bulls together and under influence of the Bulls (the other minnow unions in the Free State and in what used to be the Transvaal area) colluded with the Watson crowd  to get rid of  White and replace him with Meyer.  The plan backfired badly.  

SARU should get a more professionally structure to deal with that kind of issue.

However, White should have been more diplomatic. . His approach opened up the way for the appointment of Snorre - and to make matters worse cost him his job at he Sharks.  There was various reasons for the latter reported in the newspapers - but what was clear his relationship with the Union Board broke down and he was out. 

Hope he gets the Aussie job - but he carries a lot of baggage.     

Jake suffers from delusions of grandeur.  Very good coach, but his head is way too big.

Jake is too good for South African rugby. A more professional setup can extract the best of him. What he showed at the Brumbies is that he can understand the culture of Aussie rugby, more so than even his successor, an ex-Brumby Aussie, Larkham. Notice how the Aussies responded positively to his discipline, the South Africans wouldn't get out of bed unless he brought their slippers, and at a later hour at that.

Not really factual - just a wild unproven statement again.   Draad summed it up well - he is a good coach with the requirement that he needs major assistance in backline coaching,   Fact is that he seems to have problems in dealing with his superiors in the rugby set-up too .
