Brumbies coach Jake White admitted that his team were lucky to keep their Super Rugby title hopes alive after they edged the Cheetahs 15-13 in Canberra.

The Cheetahs scored a late try and flyhalf Riaan Smit had the unenviable job of kicking the conversion which would have sent the game into extra time.

"We got lucky with that kick at the end there, but when I look back at that game from last week when we didn't play well there's no doubt that our graph has started to go up," Head Coach Jake White said.

"We spoke a lot about the fact that finals footy means playing for 80 minutes and we had to play 81 to get the result. "

"It doesn't get any bigger than a sell out semi-final at Loftus, it's massive for this group of players.

"They're a South African side and we know what they're like," said White.

"They'll play with their forwards and

use Morne Steyn to add the extras.

But if we play to our best there's no reason

we can't take a result."

The Brumbies have already played the Bulls

this season that match was in Canberra

and the Brumbies won 23-20 in March.

The Bulls lost to the Stormers in their last

regular Super Rugby season match to the Stormers

but before that they enjoyed a nine match winning

streak which started the week after they had

lost to the Brumbies.

The Brumbies left Canberra for Sydney on

Sunday night and will fly to South Africa on

Monday where they will meet the Bulls in the

Semi-final with a place in the grand final at stake.

The Bulls are unbeaten at home in 2013.

brumbies were lucky that australian customs didnt allow the cheetahs to enter australia witha freaking brain, cos they played for lack of better words, some dumb fuck rugby.
when white made some comments earlier on in the week about the cheetahs are a conservative rugby team who kicks a lot, im starting to think if it was just a mind game from white, cos the cheetahs ran it from everywhere, taking quick taps when awarded penalties, little up and unders in their own 22 and 5 meters from the tryline, it was as if they were trying to show jake, no were not, were all about the attack. we all know who got the last laugh and im thinking that was very cunning of white.

piet van zyl needs to be given a blindfoild and a cigarette after that performance, taking a quick tap and run when the penalty was while some distance still in front of the post, a goal kick or kick for touch would have been a better option, instead he took the quick tap and the ball was lost a few phases later.

willie le roux was no better IMO, a little up and under in his own 22, another one 5 meters from the brumbies tryline, i mean WTF???
i dont rate him on bit and after that performance im convince that lambie or sideshow bob would make a better fullabck fro the Boks.
IMO he dosent play with any rugby nous and knowing when and where to do what u gotta do is just as important doing it, increasing the odds of ur high risk play coming off.
le roux looked like he was trying to spark something, but his flint was wet and he gave away so many cheap possesion it wasnt funny.

can someone tell me what benjamin was celebrating when he scored that try in the 78th minute??? did he think trys were worth 7pts, cos there was no reason fro him to cheer the way he did, unless him scoring a try and losing was more improtant then the team winning.
im being a bit anal here, but he should have just given that ball to smit, cos legally the brumbies had every right to charge the ball down when the clock struck 80.

i was cheering for the cheetahs hard in this game, they were fantastic around the breakdown, but this was balanced out by the decision making of some of the seniors and some very poor rugby fundamnetals, ill discipline didnt help either, but the lack of smarts and skills were more to blame.

brumbies got the win, albeit an unconvincing win and im sure it would be unanimous when it comes to everyone thinking the bulls will win this weekend.
of course, im sure white and the brumbies havent forgotten how jonker ripped them off the last time they were in loftus, so payback time???

@shezza,

i will be keeping those opinons, and if willie proves me worng, ill eat my humble pie with ice cream.
but if if u think that willies going to be awesoem or even half way decent cos of what happened in the june test series, then a big meh for u.
there are benefits to playing weak teams like samoa  italy and scotland (minus lion stars), while the latter two are considered tier 1, well know that they struggle against most tier one nations so the Boks can try new combos and giove certain players a decent run.
the drawbacks is those players have not been tested properly and the wallabies and All blacks are going to eb a differnt kettle of fish all together.

while i know willies has some nice attacking touches in 2013, hes also had some shockers and hes going to be found wanting big time once the Boks start playing with their SANZAR bros and not the puny fish they were nursed on in june.

willie le roux, most over rated player in spXV.

@spoony,
oh dont even get me on the started on the canes, im already dreading 2014, LMAO, but yup there was some uncanny hurricane traits in the way the cheetahs played today.

@shezza,

LMAO, :oD

thats a fitting retort, fitting cos like willie its flawed in that ur comparing it to a player in an u20s game, ;oD

a couple of things though u think ardie is overrated, good on ya, but just like my opinion on willie, u will find urself in the minority on that one, just watch his debut match against the waraths, 21 tackles from 21 tackle attempts, 3 pilfers, a line break, an offload and a nice 30 plus meters with his 8 runs, not too shabby IMO and im sure will agree that spXV level is several tiers above and u20 international game aye???
also dont know too many people who would have made the team of the week on thier debut just like ardie did.
BTW ardie was nominated for the jr player of the year award, one of three players which included a dude from wales, england and not surprisingly no saffas.

so u think hes overrated cos of one game, but if i was going to base willies as a player based only on his last game like u did with ardie, then willie would be one of the worst players in the world, chip kicks in his own 22 and when theyre 5 meters from the try line, coupled with forced passes that goes to know one cos no one in his team knows WTF hes doing, pffffffffft, did i say one of the worst players??? sorry, i meant one of the worst and dumbest players going round, but thats only if i was so narrow minded that i would base his performance on that one game.

food for thought, :o)

 I think ou saSUE would like us to drop Willie as fast as possible. However Willie has earned a shot and will get it in the RC. We shall see.

Bokbe can you point out to me another lock of 20 is it playing as well as Loodt!

Jake admits the Brumbies were lucky to win yet cc claims Jake outsmarted Naka. Bwahahahahahhaha cc - please get real. Was jake relying on missed goal kicks or erroneous penalties against the Cheetahs to win. Jake is at least honest in hsi assessment of the game. Cheetahs will get better provided they dont lose players.

Redsman the Sharks before their very bad run of injuries were playing very good balanced rugby. Bulle also have had some excellent attacking games.

No barring very bad injuries to Stormers and Sahrks we would have had three in the top 6 again this year and the  Cheetahs at 7? This about reflects the broader rugby strength of the SA, Oz and Nz. Take out bad nz refs and who knows where nz would be!

@beeno1 aka storminged,

wrong again buddy, theres nothing i would like to see more then willie le roux at FB against the All Blacks, but i dont think hes been tested properly and even the pumas is a huge step up from the three easy beats u played with in june. when the All Blacks do come a knocking, game over.

IMO willie le roux dosent have the composure and smarts to apply the great attacking skills he does have, great counter attackers know when to attack and le roux lacks that attacking nous.

he does deserve to be there though, but on the bench or on the wing is where his particular skill sets can be more properly managed and his many flaws be more efficiently contained.

the Boks future 15 is taute, he has a more all round game required at that level.

@shezza,

regarding some of ur comments,,,

"Le Roux knows precisely when to attack and when not to, the Cheetahs backline players just weren't playing together and were just worrying about defending."
i see, so it was the cheetahs backline not playing together and worrying about defending that cuased willie to chip in his own 22 and when they were 5 meters from the brumbies line, and here i was blaming willie, LMAO, :oP
IMO and my opinion only, hes a 50/50 player, u dont know what ur going to get, but he will try and do something, but sometimes especially in test rugby its not about what u try, its what u dont try, hence my opinon that he dosent know when to attack, he just attacks with little or no thought as to the outcome, instead of weighin up the options, i mean jsut cos theres a 5% chance u might make get away with it dosnet mean that u should, and this has been a trait of willie all year.

"Also making a judgement on a player after one average game is foolish, he's had one poor game which was after the test window and one average game which was against the Brumbies."
IMO hes had two poor games and one ok game against the blues, his matches aginst the brumbies and stromers were IMO kak.
i do love the irony of how u say in ur own words that le roux was average against the brumbies, but on the team of the week thread u act as if his joke of a selection over marshall was justified, LMAO, :oP u gave me stitches from laughing with that one, :o)

"You're just hurt that he didn't win the game for the Cheetahs and have completely dismissed him."
i am at a loss of words for this one, cos thats a real head scratcher, o_O
i wasnt hurt that willie didnt win the cheetahs the game, i was hoping the cheetahs would win, but my many posts on the subject since the teams for the fianls were confirmed and long before when they were speculation had me writing of the cheetahs long ago.
in short im not hurt willie didnt win the cheetahs the game, cos i never once thought he would, just like i think the All Blacks are going to rip him to shreds, kapish???
