Come back to SA Jake!

Hell we would love to have you either coaching a SXV team... or the Boks

OR ... Sitting next to Nick Mallett and Freak Show after a Bok game...

Couldnt think of 3 better, and differing rugby brains in 1 studio at the same time.

Jake White shocks Brumbies by quitting

Gone: Jake White was shocked the Brumbies by quitting the club.

Brumbies coach Jake White has sensationally quit his Super Rugby job just two months after leading the team to the grand final.

The Brumbies granted White a release from the last two years of his contract because "his heart's not in it".

Assistant coaches Stephen Larkham and Laurie Fisher are front-runners to replace White with the Brumbies now starting the search for a new coach.

White also feels his pathway back to international rugby as an Australian based coach was shut when the ARU overlooked him for the Wallabies job.

The Brumbies hope to have an appointment finalised within the next two weeks when the players return for pre-season training.

White approached Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan last Friday to ask for a release for personal reasons.

Fagan and Brumbies captain Ben Mowen spoke with White about his decision, but his mind was made up about staying in South Africa.

Brumbies players were shocked on Wednesday night when they learnt of the news on social media.

They were of the belief White was committed to helping them win a Super Rugby title and the coach had spoken to them last week about the pre-season training program.

White is in South Africa and will be at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday morning to watch the Wallabies play the Springboks.

Fairfax Media understands White has been linked to a job at the Stormers for next season, either as a coach or a coaching director, or a job at the Sharks.

John Smit, White's former Springboks captain, is the boss at the Sharks.

It's understood missing out on the Wallabies coaching job affected White's desire to stay in Australian rugby.

The ARU overlooked White's World Cup-winning credentials to instead appoint Ewen McKenzie as the new Wallabies coach because of his vision to play "the Australian way", a reference to attacking rugby.

White approached the Brumbies last week to ask for a release for personal reasons.

The coach has been in South Africa for the past two months recuperating after the team lost the Super Rugby final to the Chiefs.

It's understood White met with Brumbies captain Ben Mowen in Cape Town on Wednesday night to inform him of his decision.

Assistant coaches Stephen Larkham and Laurie Fisher have been working this week to finalise the 2014 playing roster and tie up loose ends that White left unfinished. The pair have contracts to stay with the Brumbies, but it's unclear whether their deals were affected by White's presence.

White has also signed the bulk of his playing roster until at least the end of 2015, but it's unknown if they have get-out clauses.

Players re-signed with the Brumbies because they bought into his program and belief he could turn the club into a Super Rugby powerhouse.

White's tenure in Canberra has been riddled with speculation about his future as the Brumbies coach despite signing a four-year deal.

White almost walked out on the Brumbies just two games into his contract when he was linked to the vacant England job.

Just hours before the Brumbies clash against the Cheetahs in March last year, he ruled himself out of the running and committed to his Canberra deal.

White led South Africa to a World Cup triumph in 2007.

He was also linked to the Ireland coaching job earlier this year and then the ARU asked White to apply for the Wallabies job.

White met with ARU powerbrokers in Melbourne before the Wallabies' second Test against the British and Irish Lions in June.

Former South African World Cup-winning coach White was recruited to the Brumbies to lift the team out of its darkest era.

But he is now leaving after completing just two years of his four-year contract and the players will return to pre-season training in three weeks without a coach.

i was really shocked when i heard about white leaving the brumbies and while no one can know for sure what his reasons are for leaving, it does look like his being a bit of a sook after being overlooked for the wallabies job.

feel bad for the brumbies players, cos white looked like he had real good rapport with those boys, but this will test the brumbies character, and at least white left them a good blueprint of whats required.

IMO whites No1 goal is to be a head coach again and not just with anyone, he wants preferably the Boks top job, but would have gladly taken the wallabies coaching hob had he been offered it.
the reason i believe this is cos he turned down chances to coach both england and ireland, while the later was partly cos of the RU invite.

i reely think that white dosent want to coach the enlgish or irish cos of the probability of them winning a RWC,
Boks and wallabies chacnes are much greater and after tasting success in 07, he wants to reach that high again.

i also think hes got a job already lined up, dont know who with though.
both the sharks and stormers would be good options, especially the stormers, if white can weave his brumbies magic with them, then SA could very well be getting another super rugby title to add to the 3 they have accumulated in the last 18 years.

i cant help but feel theres a lot of self serving reasons behind whites depature, when nobody wanted higher white the brumbies threw him a life line and when the brumbies look like theyre on the verge of something big, he does this??? o_O

he should have just waited two years, cos mackenzie is going to be out of a job by then and the wallabies will be looking to hire someone half decent, and if he kept the brumbeis playing that cinsistent, he would have been the front runner for sure.

i can understand him wanting to return to SA, after all he is a saffa but like the transformers, theres something here thats more than meets the eye.

Could be many reasons why he is leaving.

1. He was never very interested in the job to begin with.

He wanted to either coach in SA or at test level internationally.

No one was offering him a job in SA and he had little options to begin with. (England were interested but gave it to the caretacker coach for the worldcup).

2. He has allready achieved excellant results in the 2nd year getting to the final, and their is not much left to achieve other than a win (related to next point).

3. The Brumbies have a shoe string budget and not likely to recruit many more good players. Even with a good coach, do they have the players to really be contenders to win especially as in 2014 everyone will want to knock them over.

--

or 4.

The players are not happy with the way he wants them to play.

Clive Rathbone said after the final that it was good the Chiefs won because at least they were playing rugby. (Not South African pressure rugby and forcing teams to make mistakes).

5. He has been offered a job at the Stormers, or Sharks and would rather coach an SA team

He only took the job as no one in South Africa was offering him a job, and no international test team was offering him a job.

What ever has happened, he has proved he is a good coach.

He must take allot of credit for what he has achieved with the Brumbies, but also outside of South African rugby.

He is without the massive ball carrying forwards in Australia so he has proved that he can coach players with different skill sets.

If anything he has learnt allot in Australia and it could be to good use in South Africa, just like how the Brumbies beat the Bulls in Pretoria in the semi final.

I wonder if he does have a job setup, but looks likely that the Stormers will sign him as this is where he did live most recently prior to OZ.

His relationship with John Smit could also be a factor in the Sharks wanting to sign him.

Brendon Venter may just be a caretaker coach, and why he is not their very often. It would be why the Sharks have such a rookie as the head coach for the Curry Cup.

@Sasuke, I typed my comments as you were writing yours up.

Like you said the Brumbies did throw Jake White a bone, because he was going no where fast in South Africa.

No one wanted to employ him, but he must be hot property now taking a Brumbies team with an average squad to the final.

He has proven test level and SuperXV experience now.

Mowen with some interesting comments. How lame is the Stormers position -  who cares if there are no openings? you blimming make one for this guy. Really hope he doesn't go to the Sharks !!!!

A DESIRE to be closer to his sons in South Africa was a major factor behind Jake White's decision to quit the Brumbies mid-contract, according to captain Ben Mowen.

Mowen revealed White's motivations overnight as the Sharks loomed as a potential new home for White, with the other club linked to the ex-Springboks coach, the Cape Town-based Stormers, saying they had no openings.

On Wallabies duty in Cape Town, Mowen met White on Wednesday before the shock news broke and though intending to convince his coach to return to Canberra, the Wallabies forward respected White's personal stance so much he didn't even attempt to argue.

"When I met with him this morning I was still very much in that frame of mind about talking him into coming back. He spoke about how he really enjoyed his time with his kids, and it made him re-evaluate what was really important at this stage," Mowen said.

"Through my conversations with him … I know that his importance has shifted. It has shifted to re-connecting with his two boys, Wes (23) and Clint (17)."

Mowen conceded missing out on the Wallabies job was likely a factor in White's decision, primarily for the reason it saw the World Cup-winning coach return to South Africa for the last two months on a long break.

White's two sons from his first marriage live near Cape Town.

"This is something I have been speaking to him about particularly in the last fortnight, but on and off for the last month or so," Mowen said.

"He always does things with a lot of judgement and thought. He never rushes into anything. The way he spoke about that (family) being the most important thing to him, I agreed with him so I didn't bother trying to change his mind.

"I was in the same mindset as well and I know if I was in a similar situation, and had been away my child for that period of time, that would be my main focus as well.

"He said that, balanced off with the fact the Brumbies program he leaves is in a really good space; he's fast-tracked what he'd like to achieve over four years in almost two. The next stage of that was for the program to move on without him, which was always the succession plan. It just happened in a shorter period of time.
"He thought this was the right time to move back."

White, who wasn't taking phone calls, took the other Brumbies in the Wallabies squad out to dinner in Cape Town to explain his decision in person.

"That's a big part of Jake, his relationship with the players. He is a relationships coach, that's why he gets so much out of guys," Mowen said, speaking ahead of the dinner.

"I can't speak for everyone but I'd say they'll be in a very understanding mood. I was this morning. You go in with your own point of view but once you hear his, it is just what everyone would do in a similar situation."

Mowen said he'd spoken with Brumbies CEO Andrew Fagan on the phone about the process of appointing a replacement head coach, but said increased roles for assistants Stephen Larkham and Laurie Fisher would be a "seamless transition for the group".

"I would think between "Bernie" (Larkham) and Laurie that there is more than enough experience and direction," he said.

"Those guys have been a huge driving factor in terms of on-field performance and take so much of the sessions, if it was to be in that direction that would reasonably seamless for the group.

Mowen added that players who'd signed or re-signed with the Brumbies were made aware they were joining the club to play under the structure of a program, not just one coach.

The Brumbies program remains in strong health despite White's premature exit, believes Mowen.

"We have a really strong roster. In the two years Jake has had the team, it's gone from having three Wallabies to 15 or so it has now. He has done an enormous amount for those guys careers," Mowen said.

"He has kept his promise there. He spoke about it at the start, how it was an amazing record that one in every two Brumbies plays for Australia. At that stage when you only have three in a squad of 30, you think "that's going to be challenging", and then he achieves it. I thought that was outstanding.

"I guess there was always going to be a day where he would step aside and let that program continue on, we just assumed it was a lot further down the track than what it was."

Whether the Brumbies allow White to take up a coaching job with a rival African province will be interesting, but Mowen believes there'll be no shortage of suitors.

"I don't think a guy like him will be without people pursuing him for long at all," he said.

"The fact he has achieved so much for us in a short period, he will be hotly pursued."

White was seen as a Western Province training session recently with Stormers coach Alistair Coetzee, but the club said they'd had no talks with White.

"We knew nothing about it. I thought he was contracted to the Brumbies. It comes as a surprise to me," Western Province CEO Rob Wagner told RugbyGold overnight.

"I suppose (White visited Coetzee) because they coached together in 2007. I don't think there is any meaning in that.

"We have never discussed it (employing White). No-one has even broached the subject. We have got management in place."

White has also been linked to the Sharks, who have a head coach vacancy and have White's 2007 World Cup winning captain John Smit as CEO.

White was majorly miffed to be overlooked for the Wallabies job, and it is understood he first raised the topic of resigning to Fagan soon after Ewen McKenzie was appointed.

Asked about the impact of the failed Wallaby job bid, Mowen said: "It probably played a part because by not getting the Wallabies job he came back to Africa for three months, and probably spent a lot of time reflecting on where he would like to be and what was important to him."

"Part of that is being around his kids, part of it is looking at where the Brumbies program is at, and he's happy with where the program is," Mowen said.

"I think it did play a role but it's funny the way things work out, this way he is happy where he is at. That he does get to spend time with the family.

"He may have been regretful if he decided to stay in Australia another couple of years and really missed that connection, so it all works out for the best in the end."

This is a sad situation. Our best coach wants to be close to his kids and have a chance to use his undoubted talent. So he leaves a developing success at the Brumbies....for nothing of substance.

This won't impress the guys who control the big coaching appointments...it appears too fragile, not showing real commitment. So Jake is less likely to get that prestigious appointment, than he was before this broke.

Its an odd one. Every RWC winning coach had his pick of assignments, why not Jake? I think unfortunately in some way Jake seems needy, a little too anxious....and it works against him. Sadly this latest resignation fits the image of being unpredictable. ....unreliable. I hope I'm wrong Jake is a rugby genius and a principled guy, but he seems less and less likely to use his talents at international level again

@oimatey,

that does shed an interesting light on things, and family is important

i cant see white going to the sharks though, especially if his boys are living near capetown, so smart money says he will be involved with the stormers on some level.

if he ends up with the sharks, then the family excuse is a lot harder to swallow.

Bit surprised but he seems like a proud saffa who probably didn't get over the fact Ewen was given reigns of wobs before him. History will show whether good decision or not - too early to judge Link as national coach given the dismal legacy left by drongo deans. As far as brumbies goes - now that White has left it will show whether the legacy left by him ie team culture and support staff will be able to stand up and be counted next season - I think they will but Tahs looking like they going to have the roster and coach to give things a shake next year................ Re shoestring budget @ brumbies - knowing a bit about ZAR v AUD its all about parity and yes cost of living is WAY more expensive here but bang for buck ZAR is virtually worthless to anything globally so if saffa players keep wanting to play for ZAR and live in SA then so be it - but the moment the French or Poms throw their currency into the mix the saffa clubs will sink and fast...... ON THAT NOTE - did you think that MAYBE Jake has connected with some UK/FR rugby officials to make a play and bringing a saffa team into the mix with their changes...... All this on the eve of a rugby match where I don't give the wobs too much of a shot.... BUT its the kind of build up the wallabies perform better with - low key low hype and JUST maybe can emulate a bit of LEGENDARY KIWI DEFEATING SAILING SKIPPER SPITHILL's never say die attitude.... if only.........................

I must say this comes as a bit of a shock.

He’s used his kids as a feeble excuse to leave a job half done … showing himself as unreliable … or is it his way of throwing a tantrum cause he didn’t get the job as head coach of the Wallabies?

Either way ... it didn’t matter to him that the Brumbies may have put plans in place based on him honouring his contract. Shows you he has loyalty to no one other than himself.  I thought he was a better man than that.

A foolish decision. It will come back and bite him.

I’m sure there’ll be a few Shark supporters pissed at his arrival.

Apparently White originally said that he had two reasons for leaving - namely his family and his business interests. What those interests are only he would know. I think there is more to those than meets the eye and we will have to see how things develop. One does not know what influence his wife had on the matter either. Some South Africans find it difficult to be away from SA and that could play a role as well. Maybe she - as a very religious person - did not adjust well to the Australian environment. I think we will have to wait and see how things develop and see what the future holds for White. I only wish we had him as SA coach and not the simple-minded Meyer. One thing is for sure - there is no love lost between White and Meyer - the latter was behind the successful plot to unseat White in 2007-06, but the plot failed because Meyer did not get the job then - only later after it was found that De Villiers did not meet requirements.. Anyway we shall over the next three months see how things develop. I think he will probably be offered a job by the Stormers or the Sharks. I have never seen Venter being present at any of the Sharks CC games. That really remains a mystery - since even though he is not the coach of the Sharks - he is according to announcements at the time, the real head of the coaching set up in the case of the Sharks - so what is going on? Why was there some whispers about White when the Sharks fired Plumtree???

Ou Maaikie. I was reading your post and tried not to be too critical, until I read this utter bullshit again: "One thing is for sure - there is no love lost between White and Meyer - the latter was behind the successful plot to unseat White in 2007-06,". It was not Heyneke Meyer that was behind it.

The drive to have White fired had nothing to do with Heyneke or the Blue Bulls Company. It was a fabrication by Rapport, and in particular their reporter Rudolph Lake. The same guy who has tried to get to Brendon Venter and the Sharks.

He is the guy who writes under the name of "Die Mol" in Rapport newspaper.  He commandeered the "Old Players Association" under Piet Uys and Frik du Preez to start a campaign about it. It is interesting to know that it was the very same association who was behind the drive within the Blue Bulls to have Heyneke, himself, fired when the Bulls went through that bad patch in the early 2000s. I know that for a fact, because one of them (one of the members of the association) was a business partner of mine. I will not name him but he was a loose forward with 100+ games for NTvl. It is also the same "Die Mol/Rudolph Lake" who came up with the Keegan Daniel/Afrikaans player bullshit at the Sharks.

I have Jake White's book in front of me and you can go read page 241. This is part of what happened after the article in Rapport, by Lake, that there was a secret meeting at SARU and that Hoskins, Mpumelelo Tshume, Koos Basson and Mike Stofile and that it was already decided that White would be fired immediately and that Meyer would be appointed:

"I don't know whether they had met on the eve of the test or not, but what I do know is that, following the Sundat report, Hoskins and Basson scheduled a meeting with national selector Ian McIntosh and me on teh Tuesday noght in a London Hotel. They indicated that they knew nothing about the Rapport story.

But on Monday, the Blue Bulls Rugby Union(BBRU) buckling to a rallying cry from it's Old Players' Association', which was headed by Piet Uys and the great Frik du Preez - a frequent critic of mine in the pages of Rapport - called for a vote of no confidence in me as Springbok coach."

Within hours of that development, I received a call from Barend van Graan, who headed the Bulls' professional arm, which employs all its players and coaches. He assured me that he and the Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer did not support the motion of no confidence, and neither did the Bulls players. They distanced themselves from it, and Barend explained that the motion had come from the amateur arm of the union. I thanked him for taking the time to call, and also asked him to thank Heyneke."

Nice try ou Maaikie. Nice try.

Talk about cloak and dagger stuff!!!

I’m sure there’s much the same behind the scenes that we the fans aren’t aware of.

I learnt a long time ago not to merely swallow what’s fed us.

To be quite honest, Mike’s only interest it seems is to post negative things about Meyer … something to put him in a bad light … break him down ... hoping I guess we’ll side with him.

It’s become rather tiresome!!!

And your point, Homowa???

Oh ... ??? You don't have one???

Ceradyne This one of your is really bullshit in capital letters. The organisation to get rid of Jake White was organised by two parties, namely - * Cheeky Watson, who had his own agenda and got the small Cape Unions to support him; and * the Blue Bulls who wanted Meyer to be coach and got the Free State Unions to support the move. Those are historical facts and if you believe you can load that onto the musings of a journalist - you are a bloody fool. White wrote what he did and gave a true reflection of what happened between him and the Blue Bulls management at the time. The quote you made and the reference to him being fired by Hoskins and co is ridiculous in the extreme. Hoskins can only do what his Board allows him to do. The other part of he book you quoted about Uys and co is also nonsence. They have no vote in the SARU Board and the phone call to White proved to be a smokescreen to hide their real intentions. If the Bulls and the Free State Unions did not vote for the dismissal of White - Hoskins would not have the support to fire White. The rest is also history - some of the unions who supported White got thoroughly miffed with the Blue Bulls skulduggery and the Watson-Blue Bulls alliance fell apart because they championed different candidates. Some of the Unions who supported White - turned on the Bulls and supported De Villiers. Meyer lost by 1 vote when the Board had to vote on the appointment of a successor and De Villiers got appointed. Only an extremely naïve person would think that the Blue Bulls did not have their own agenda - namely the appointment of Meyer. Those are facts and has been recorded - so why suddenly blame it on a journalist who write about the issue.

I am probably very wrong but I just get the feeling that Smit is a schemer. He is ruthless. He came into the Sharks and shook things up from day 1. He seems like a bloke who knows what he wants and will stop at nothing until he gets it...SA rugby public love him. He has always been a gentlemen and a very smart man. HNo one is SA rugby is trusted as much as him.

Luckily for us he has a brain and wants the best for Sharks and SA rugby. Or at least it seems that way. The great thing is that he was a player for many years in the modern era so he knows what it feels like to constantly be second best and he will be hungry to build a team of coaches and players (aka a system)that can get us to the top and keep us there. With rugby brains like White and Venter in the mix, who knows.

John Smit is english speaking.. Is Brendan Venter english or Afrikaans? I dont know a hell of a lot about him. Is Smit trying to oust the "dutchmen?"

I will write this a little clearer, the above comments stated he " turned England down ". He did not. That is what I meant when he was not in the running for the England job.

Yes, he was interviewed at one point.

As were many others.

But no-one was offered the job and turned it down.

The only candidate who was offered the job was Stuart Lancaster, thank goodness. And he took the job.

This was all stated publically at the time when certain rumours and gossip were being printed in the press abroad.

Rightly, England chose an English Coach.

Mike. Stop acting like a doos. You have said that there is no love lost between Jake and Heyneke Meyer because Heyneke Meyer was behind getting White fired. These were your own words:

One thing is for sure - there is no love lost between White and Meyer - the latter was behind the successful plot to unseat White in 2007-06

Did you write that? Yes or no. By implication you are saying that the animocity comes from Jakes side because Meyer tried to shaft him in 2007.

That is utter bullshit and your own little fantasy.

I have quoted Jakes own words from his book, where he himself said that Meyer had nothing to do with that "plot". May I repeat that part for you.

Within hours of that development, I received a call from Barend van Graan, who headed the Bulls' professional arm, which employs all its players and coaches. He assured me that he and the Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer did not support the motion of no confidence, and neither did the Bulls players.

.....and ......

I thanked him for taking the time to call, and also asked him to thank Heyneke."

Now you even are bringing in Cheeky Watson as well to try and hode the bullshit that you have been spewing. If there is one scaniving bullshitter around, it is you and you are trying to hide it by calling me one. How many times are you going to try this? You keep on getting knocked with your "facts" and you keep on concocting even more of the same.

I have not even said anything about Hoskins firing White. I repeated what was written in the book, and I clearly remember the bullshit cause by Lake. He was also on the Afrikaans panel show SuperRugby, driving his campaign at the time. I read the article and I saw the program. Once again. It was the amateur arm of the Blue Bulls and the "Old Players' Association" who were behind it. Neither the BBRU not Heyneke Meyer had anything to do with it, like you have said. Rudolph Lake lied about in his articles. He said that Hoskins et al have already (at the time) decided behind closed doors, that White was to be fired and replaced by Meyer. It was all a bullshit story which the SA public took for granted. It didn't happen. There was a vote of no confidence in White from the Blue Bulls but that was something that was forced upon them by the Players Association and the clubs in a meeting of the amateur arm of the union. If you do not understand that, then you clearly do not understand how the structures in SA rugby works, or at least hwo it worked at the time.

Jake being Jake has basically thrown his toys out the cot because he did not get the Oz job. For a start he is NOT by any stretch our best coach, Mallett was better and Meyer is better. But given how average some of our coaches at home are, it would be good to see Jake coaching the Stormers or Bulls. There will be no place for Venter and Jake at the Sharks - that would be a disater

Jake has not thrown his toys. Throwing your toys mean to schout, scream and cry until you either have things your way and if you cannot have it your way to then piss off. You would know all about that. Jake did none of that. He just quietly turned his back and pissed off.

Jake is one of our better coaches and it would be great to have him back in the mix for the boks. Both him and Meyer has worked together in the past and I can't see why they won't help each other. I really respect what Jake has done in the past but I think Saffex has a point. Jake doesn't want to coach Super Rugby teams, he wants to be a national coach with the ambition of winning a world cup.

He may still use 2007 play book but he has also learned to change his theory on the type of players. Big evedence of this is the use of Hooper and then Pocock. Before he would never play a fetcher and at the Brumbies he did.

But one thing that bugs me about Jake is that he is a scheemer and only does things when there are bigger things at play. He whent to the Brumbies knowing that he would have a chance to coach Australia, the England Job came around and there was rumours that he might left after only being one year in the job, but he had to back track and say that he is a brumby. Deans got booted and White hoped that he would get the job. Problem is, Ewen won the Super Rugby comp within 2 years, Jake could only be runner up. Ewen had the reds play a more attractive brand of rugby, jake did not get the Brumbies to play and attractive brand of rugby.

So it looks to me he is coming back to SA to sit on Meyer heels to let him know that he is there. When Piet Helium started to screw up, jake was the first one to screem why he should be selected bok coach again.

Personally I think Meyer is to conservative and the fact that he is sticking to his roration policy and not selecting players on current form speeks volumens. There are a couple of players that have it to easy and I think that certain players need a good kick up the arse.

The best coach in SA is Rassie, he is the  most inventive and he knows how to get the youngster coming through the system. He changed the Cheetahs fortunes, managed to get the Stormers to get some decent youngsters coming through, Estebeth, Kolisi, Howard etc are all product from the Rassie Era. It is just bloody Coetzee that can't seem to build on what Rassie created.

The next two games will be the point where I will judge Meyer. He has done well to beat the Aussies away, managed to get some stability and easing the youngsters in even though we are desperated to get rid of some plodders ie Steyn and Kirchner.

I expect the boks to win both games against Aus and NZ, if he fails I would be the first to shout to get rid of him.

Kingcorn, Rassie is abit of a dud. a gimmick man with very few tricks. but i think coetzee is underrated.

onto Jake. I think he is making himself available for Wallaby selecxtrion. dont be surprised that if ewan gets stuffed in the next two games that he could be sacked after one season! especially if they lose it up north. there is already been talk here that aru made the wrong choice and that was before the brisbane disaster or the close shap against the bargies. so yeah i think jake is making himself available and baiting the aru who now must be shitting themselves by going from the frying pan and into a blazing inferno.

True, Rassie does seem to flak out a bit, but still thinks he will bring a better brand of Rugby. Don'r rate Coetzee at all, worst coach ever.

I think Jake is making a play to become an international coach again. How top teams are there really to coach. NZ, SA, Australia, England, France. The only teams that he might have shout it is SA and Australia.

So Yeah, I think he is back to sit on meyers heels, if Ewen flops he always have the benefit of going back to Aus, but his options are limited. It only leaves SA.

I have to agree. I do not rate Rassie as a coach. I also agree that he is onbe for gimmicks. I still believe that he could well be brilliant in analyzing the opposition and his own team and work out a plan/strategy for a specific game, but overall as a coach? What has he achieved. Him and his followers have been hanging onto his win over the Bulls in the CC final at Loftus. He had a master plan for that game specific and it came off, and in the end it really hinged on a stupid mistake and miscommunication between Fourie du Preez and Johan Roets which resulted in Meyer Bosman scoring a try in the dying minutes of the game.

What has he achieved at the Stormers after all? His first reaction was to rape his ex-team, the Cheetahs, of some of their key players like Tiaan Liebenberg, Duane Vermeulen and Willem de Waal. Then he went after others like Jaque Fourie and Bryan Habana. There are more youngsters from in the WP squad, coming through from within their own ranks now than what there were in his time with the Stormers. In addition, how many times has he dropped his side like a bad habit the moment he could?

This is terrible news!

I can only hope that Joke White has reneged on his contract with the Brumbies because he thinks he has a shot at the Wallaby job. The thought of Joke coaching the Sharks is simply too horrifying for words! How long would it be before this opportunistic pretender jumps ship and runs off to the next club or country stupid enough to make him an offer?

I know many SA fans actually rate Joke as good coach and I know I'm in a small minority here but I hope he stays overseas. I couldn't give a toss whether that's in Australia, England, Japan or flipping Outer Mongolia, just don't come sniffing around the Sharks please Joke!

Ceradyne Twister of words and impossible to think logically. Like Saffex you do not rate White - a WC winning coach as a coach - but you rate the pedestrian Meyer as one. What a joke. I think you should have a serious discussion with your shrink and try and work out what is practical in the world - not wild theories.

Fokkit Ou Maaikie. Now you have another dozen of eggs on your face. Where have I said that I do not rate Jake White? I have always liked Jake White. Saffex can vouch for that. We had quite a number of arguments about White. You are becoming a master of manipulating facts. You come on here and say that Jake White is pissed of at Heyneke Meyer. I have shown you where Jake White has said teh opposite, in his own words, even. Now you come with this crap? You are the one who is seriously fvcking sick man.

Try for once not to be a lying dickhead and answer me this (like I have asked you earlier). Did you write the following or not?:............the latter[ meaning Heyneke Meyer] was behind the successful plot to unseat White in 2007-06

Then go to the next question. Did I quote the following two quotes from Jake's book?:

I received a call from Barend van Graan, who headed the Bulls' professional arm, which employs all its players and coaches. He assured me that he and the Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer did not support the motion of no confidence, and neither did the Bulls players.

......and......

I thanked him for taking the time to call, and also asked him to thank Heyneke."

If you do not believe me, then get hold of the book: In Black and White, The Jake White Story with Craig Ray. Read page 241. It is all there.

There is no evidence anywhere that Heyneke Meyer had anything to do with any action to get Jake White fired. That is a blatant lie.
