Jake White will return to international coaching as part of the Tonga set-up for the November Tests, serving as a technical advisor.
The former South Africa boss and World Cup winner left his post with the Sharks last month amid rumours of discord between him and his players.
He has since been linked to a move to Japan to reunite with Eddie Jones, however his first stop will be with Tonga, where he will help head Mana Otai during the Tests against Georgia, the USA and Scotland.
"Through some mutual acquaintances we got in touch with Jake and he was extremely keen to come on board," Tonga high performance manager Peter Harding told ONE News.
"He's had a great coaching career and has won a World Cup so his presence alone will be massive for the squad."
It's not the first time Tonga have brought in outside help to expand their coaching set-up, with former France defence coach Dave Ellis having been involved in a consultancy role over the last two seasons.
Negotiations are believed to be in place to get White involved on a longer term basis through to next year's World Cup
