Jamtjies and Coetzee

A while ago I wrote a thread expressing the view that Coetzee could be reluctant to use Jantjies as starting flyhalf for the Springboks - once bitten twice  shy.  My argument then was that Coetzee was let down by Jantjies in 2013 and he may be reluctant to use Jantjies as the starting flyhalf.   In the interim Jantjies had a minor injury - but was declared fit to play earlier this week.  The injury may be quoted for Jantjies being on the bench and one will have to see how much playing time Jantjies gets tomorrow,   However, one has to wonder whether my comments - shot down by many on the site - did not have some merit.       

 Somehow the compatibility between Jantjies and AC is not all too well.  This does not make Jantjies a bad player, he simply seems to be unable to fit into AC vision of a flyhalf.  There were other issues as well as some personal pressures.
I have much more of an axe to grind when players are selected while clearly not 100% fit.  Yes, he has an orthopaedic splint which supports the finger they operated a week ago, but it is still ludicrous.
If you have ever played the game and you have just a fraction of sanity you'd know and recall that psychologically you will always favour the sore hand - and sore it will still be.  Let us assume for one minute the Irish have broken the Bok line and the fullback (not that he can tackle much) is up-field and Jantjies fell back as cross cover.A big Irish loosie comes storming for the line and Jantjies has to defend.  The player is clever and runs directly at the "broken" hand-side.
I bet you he will break the tackle and score.  Jantjie's splint will not protect his hand and he tried gallantly - now he is out for six weeks - Very freaking clever coach!

 No Arsehole ... I don't think Coetzee's stupid enough to waste a spot on a player he had no intention of using.
The 10 jersey is Jantjies. Patrick's merely loaning it. 

 If Coetzee has selected Lambie over Jantjies then it confirms how conservative he is and reaffirms why Akers would have been a far better option as Bok coach. 
The fact that Lambie is vice captain speaks volumes as well.
Time will tell but the sooner Coetzee moves on from the conservative selections that buried Meyer the better for him.
Jantjies for Lambie, Kriel for Louw, Combrink for Mvovo and Kitshoff for Beast are musts

 Yes agreed, Dave... except I'd obviously retain Lambie at 10.
I'd also bring a h ost of other talented youngsters into the mix.
It's pointless having a relatively strong team with a weedy bench.

CC while I am a fan of Lambie, Jantjies is better and brings so much more to the game in terms of attack  

 His flippy flippy moves can also land us in trouble ... especially at test level.
We don't need nor do we want a Quade Cooper type steering the ship.
Lambie is solid in every way. He has a better head on his shoulders and is physically stronger than Jantjies.
Both will get a run this season ... then we can judge for ourselves.
I just hope that April isn't left out in the cold for too long. To be honest I would rather have had him on the bench than Jantjies.  
 

 April needs to be developed & given time & the right exposure to do so. So far so good IMO, he's been brought into the Bok environment to get exposure to the culture & to learn. I hope they don't throw him in the deep end as so often happens in SA rugby.
I think Jantjies has a lot of talent & that he seems to be getting more confidence. He had a torrid time after his father died & has had his fair share of injuries. Lambie is solid IMO but without the flair of  Janjies.
We will see what happens when Pollard is back.

Wow I read some kak at times.....April ahead of Jantjies......oh boy.....not worth commenting on  

 At the moment - if 100% fit - Jantjies seem to be the first choice.  Lambie is almost as injury prone as Goosen.  April is at the right place to develop his career.  I have never been a supporter of the idiotic Naas theory "If you good enough you are old enough.." Nonsense - then you end up with a Gaffie du Toit.
The problem / uncertainty I have with Janties is playing away from his regular coach.  I am not so sure if he and Coetzee are on the same wavelength as far as classical 10 play is concerned.

Dave - You mean that Coetzee is to blame for Jantjies poor performances for the Stormers?   I think that is a bit far-fetched I believe.   

 Let's introduce a few facts. Lambie is a 90% penalty kicker......Jantjies a 70% penalty kicker. So if you have 6 kicks at goal, one would expect a 3 point difference between Lambie and Jantjies.

So in general play, Jantjies has to be 3 points better to choose him over Lambie, that includes defence.
Is he....you  decide.
