Oh no.
Jannie Du Plessis to the Lions
Oh no - he should open a medical practice. and at his age not open a way to ruin his reputation.
Unfortunately with all the Witch Doc's on the loose he will not make the same money in a Medical practice as opposed to a rugby contract.
Plus he will be paid in arms and ammo to help brother Bismark and family hold onto the farm.
What a decent fellow, he really is amazing.
All the Lions need now is Bongo and the Beast to sign up plus with Elton at #10 a complete dream team.
CC hope you and Plum are going to support the boys.
That's terrible news.
He was second rate in his prime ... totally overrated ... a penalty machine ... a weedy hinger that most looseheads had their way with.
How he made the Bok squad has always puzzled me.
Seems the Lions are that stupid after all.
Anyone know who the Lions coach is? The fragile Swys has thrown the towel in hasn't he? Probably some quota.I think it's time to move on from them too.
Cc
I think it is a guy called Ivan van Rooyen - knows anything about him? ????????
AJ
I support the Lions because I liked what they were doing from a coaching, game strategy and team culture perspective.
If that continues then I shall continue to support them. In reality I don't have favorite local side. Kinda support em all.
The Lions do have quality though. Tyrone Green already looks a more complete player than many that have had Bok call-ups in recent years. Fast, powerful, deceptive, great hands, reads the game well and a strong reliable defender too.
2020 might be a breakout season for the chap.
Jannie is probably/hopefully going to be more of an experienced mouth than an able body for the Leeus.
Ivan van Rooyen(37) is the new coach.
Been at the Lions for ten years.
He was their strength and conditioning guy, then assistant coach, then interim coach and now he's head coach.
Looks like he's earned his stripes.
Hopefully he brings the proverbial fearlessness of youth approach to the job.
Plum
I think the ideal is that the new coaches should work with Erasmus as Director of Rugby to get a more modern approach to rugby in general in place and to ensure that the National and Franchise teams are on the same channel insofar as the game as a whole is concerned.
This was a topic mentioned for years by Meyer and Coetzee and no co-ordination was ever achieved. There was a mile difference between them and some of the franchise coaches. that could never be overcome - but signs are that at least Van Rooyen, Dobson and Human wpould co-operate in the relevant regard. Do not know yet who the Sharks coach would be - have you got any idea about that one?
We are going into Super Rugby with -
* Human - with 1 season of Super Rugby coaching behind him; and
* Three head coaches who never was involved in leading Super Rugby coaching.
Maybe we will see some development in the four franchises that was absent for years now. Would like to see the final squads for the 2020 season though,
Plum good for you to show your loyalty to the Lions even when the going gets tough.
Stay with it guy loyalty does not go with winning but with pride.
I have a relative in JHB who is just as proud of the Lions as you are.
Vasbyt.
Nothing wrong with bringing in some experienced hands to give the young guns some guidance. Jannie won't be the starter, but his xp will be gold for the starting TH...not the worst move by the Lions at all.
In saying that he didn't have much ability in the scrum either, was never part of a dominant scrum.
Jannie is useless. His main contribution is blocking his own players from making tackles. No one has missed as many tackles as our friend Jannie. The opposition players seek him out on attacking moves. He is probably worse now.
sharkbok we will not comment on your posting as with your vast experience as a Stringbok you would know all the moves.
Man once a Stringbok always a Stringbok.
