The following article is noteworthy:-
"Golden Lions fly-half Elton Jantjies will be riding pine again this week after being dropped for his side's clash with the Bulls.
Marnitz Boshoff is restored to the number ten jersey after turning out at full-back against the Sharks last week. Chrysander Botha gets a run out at 15 as a result.
Coach Johan Ackermann's decision means that Jantjies will be denied the opportunity to face off against his younger brother, Tony, who will be pulling the strings from the pivot position for the Bulls.
Ackermann has handed new signing Willie Wepener a chance to make an immediate impact against his former employees, with the hooker having parted ways with the Bulls earlier in the month after the Pretoria outfit signed Bandise Maku (Kings) and Callie Visagie (Lions).
Franco van der Merwe returns from Springbok duty to slot into the second row in the only other change.
Golden Lions: 15 Chrysander Botha, 14 Deon Helberg, 13 Robert De Bruyn, 12 Dylan Des Fountain, 11 Anthony Volmink, 10 Marnitz Boshoff, 9 Guy Cronje, 8 Willie Britz, 7 Derick Minnie (captain), 6 Jaco Kriel, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Chris van Zyl, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Willie Wepener, 1 Jacques Van Rooyen.
Replacements: 16 Robbie Coetzee, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Lambert Groenewald, 19 Warwick Tecklenburg, 20 Tiaan Meyer, 21 Elton Jantjies, 22 Lionel Cronje"
When the Stormers contracted Jantjies for Super 15 - I said they are making a serious mistake with him - he is just not good enough. Saffex swore he is top notch and should be in the Springbok squad. Everyone was stupid because the player is top notch and we are too stupid to see it.
Then the Stormers had to decide on contracting him for next years Super 15 - Coetzee wanted him come hell or high water - but somewhere in management somebody objected and there has been no contract and there will not be one either.
Now it seems as if Jantjies cannot even make the Lions team starting line-up on a regular basis and the question is what will they offer him contract-wise for next year? Nothing of any real value - it seems to me if indeed he is offered anything at all.
He should try to get a foreign contract - but the Clubs will not want him either - so where to next? One of the Grade 1 CC teams perhaps?
Saffex it seems to me that Jantjies is going the same way as Earl Rose - down and down. I have never had anything personal against the guy - but from a rugby perspective he is NO GOOD and has been saying that for more than a year.
