The following report for information:- The Lions have secured the signatures of Elton Jantjies and two other Springboks as they prepare for the 2014 Super Rugby season. Jantjies’ agent James Adams confirmed via twitter on Wednesday that the fly-half, who was on loan at the Stormers during this year’s tournament, has signed a two year contract extension with the Johannesburg-based franchise until the end of 2015. Fellow Springboks, utility back Lionel Mapoe and lock Franco van der Merwe have also signed two-year extensions to their current contracts. The Lions have also secured the services of Marnitz Boshoff, Alwyn Hollenbach, Ruan Combrinck, Jaco Kriel, Warren Whiteley and Willie Wepener, several of which also extended their current deals. Prop Bees Roux recently joined them on a three month deal, and is also likely to stay on" So Taute is not going bak to the Lions - wise move. Jantjies obviously is not wanted by the Stormers - he is indeed lucky to find a franchise prepared to sign him up after his atrocious performances during this year. The Lions are taking out insurance against him flopping next year - by signing up Boshoff.

it is a wise move, stormers and janties just didnt mesh despite janties being a great player and the stormers being a great team.

the lions will do a better jon of getting the best out of janties.

i saw the lions v cheetahs game and IMO u can see that janties is staring to get his groove back, come the 2014 spXV, he could be firing on all cylinders again.

hes still young and having the support of his family and bros around will help him big time, something he didnt have at newlands when dealing with the death of his old man last year.
not saying that this is the reason janties had a bad season, but IMO it was the biggest contributor. having close ones around u is key for dealing with tough times.

Not the best of news, Mike.

 

Jantjies has shown a little improvement but is partial to complete collapse at times and that's why I have no confidence in him. .

 

He can rip you a new one at times ... consistency is a whole lot more valuable than these sporadic displays of his and that's why I rate Boshoff as the better overall player.

I wish him well, perhaps the kid needs a comfort zone and I hope that's all it takes but for mine he's a Vodacom player not suitable for higher levels.

The better he plays ... the better for my team.

 

I cheer for him and hold thumbs that all goes well with his play ... not cause I like him, cause I don't ... I unfortunately do not have a say whether he plays or not ... so I'm left with nothing but willing him as best I can to play a good match for us ... 

 

9 out of 10 I leave the lounge muttering profanity anyhow ...

So thrilled he's left the Stormers.....our good luck is the Lion's bad luck. Best you can hope for is that some NH club signs him for the next 20 years.

That's lekka, he is still a good player for the lower games.  He just does not have that extr skop to go further.  Sometimes he is brilliant and then he shows the other side and is plain kak.  But he is still better than that Greek outjie who came to play by our team.
