There was plenty of comment this week about how Jean had lost it. He showed in the last 20 minutes he is still the most dangerous centre in SA by a mile. De Jongh made some nice breaks as did Benjamin.

But the sad Bools pair were nowhere again. Steppie stepped inside every time and JJ overan the ball again (shades of Ellis Park)  dropped ball, made poor passes, ran into touch.....and accomplished nothing. I think they should try Pollard at 12....he looks by far the most dangerous Bools inside back.

Brussow certainly had a great game, winning his battle with Fourie and making constructive contributions all over the park. I'm not so sure about the knock down though....was he coming from man offside position in any case?

And Schalk got on late but he stopped the Nyakane runs and made some deft linking plays.

As for Victor how about that tackle after the ball hit the cross bar...so much for losing pace. It wasn't his fault the Bools imploded.

Almost every ball Serfontein received was at a set piece, result being he crashballed it because that was part of the set play. Still one of the best 12's in SA, definitely has the best pass.
I really do hope Brussow get's picked by Meyer, but I do have doubt because his lack of inclusion in the Boks since Meyer's charge.

Lets face a few facts and that is that =
*   Briussow was very good today;*   De Villiers despite his try made for him by De Allende was in fact overshadowed by Benjamin;  *   Matfield's contribution to tight 5 play and driving mauls were basically non-existent and one tackle does not cover that deficiency;*   De Jongh made exactly one break - but for the rest buggered up badly by hanging onto balls he should have passed, while in defense he made some real slip-ups allowing players to run past him as if he was not there; and*   Burger did show some signs of life - but only played for about 15 minutes and did not present the crucial Nyakane try and he was not alone in stopping the other runs by Nyakane and was only assisting in the tackles made.
Do Brussow surely was very good - De Villiers was relatively good and could be regarded as having passed the test - but that for the rest of the players mentioned by you - there was no consistency in performance and that at best the performances can be regarded as bog ordinary and in some respects poor.
What terrifies me is what would have happened to the Stormers if Coenie, De Jager. Labuschagne,  Van der Walt and Goosen played - it would have been a massacre.

Mozart I cannot understand your positive comments on the old timers you mentioned.
Thank goodness you have no say in the selection process for the Boks.

The only players of any worth in Mozart's books are those over 30 years of age.  Younger players are of no value according to him.   His fascination with the age of players are further illustrated by his reference to the age of the Cheetahs backline players in another threat.
Anther issue Mozart does not recognize as essential is the ability of players and to read games and have ball skills, as well as speed deficiencies counts for nothing.   He recently started to use bulk/size as the only requirement for Springbok selection.
Whenever queried - it all goes back to the 2007 WC and the 2009 season.   The players he praises are routinely from that time.  He forgets that they are 5 to 7 years older and that age has an impact on performances.

Look without bias AJ and perhaps it will become clear....Schalk, Victor and Jean all showed they can still contribute meaningfully at test level. We can't pick all of them, we need some youthful energy to propel the team....but, hell, who do you want ahead of Jean....Steppie?

Brussouw was great, Matfield a passenger week after week other than in the line-outs, Jean looks shot and Schalk is good for the Stormers but thats where it ends

Are you dilly?  Matfield at test level is unthinkable.  A lock has to do more than line out jumping - the only thing he does.  He plays no role in tight phases of the game and that means zero contribution to rolling mauls - zero contribution to scrumming, zero contribution to mauls.   You cannot have a tight 5 player because he takes a few line outs.  He must also contribute to the rest of tight 5 requirements.

And I wonder who is the real steppie - De Jongh or Serfontein?   At least Serfontein does not stand looking sheepish as players runs past him to score tries.
I think De Villiers is the answer at 12 -  but would prefer De Allende by a mile at 13.

Matfield is not club level - he would get manhandled even at that level. Deon Fourie is by some way superior to Brussouw - man he is far quicker and runs like a back. Better over the ball as well. Schalk and Jean may be worth a shot.
De Jongh is not test class - try the wee fellow on the wing?
Allende must be in the reckoning. His is playing a lot better than JP. But watch out for quotas!

Deon Fourie is not in the same bracket as Brussow. Brussow ruined the Stormers breakdown, where was Fourie? Nowhere to be seen, he should stop posing as a fetcher when in the company of the master.

Cheaser and snapster wake up - Deon was playing hooker else Brussouw would have been severely embarassed. Brussouw is a carthorse in comparison. Only the most blind would not see that. Think only of that great break of his when he beat a number of Cheetahs players and almost scored. NO loose forward in the wo rld could do that. Or his great steal near the Stormers goal line etc. 80 minute goer and best small loosie in the world by a mile.
Please oaks dont mention brussouw in the same breath as Fourie. It's like mentioning wee victor in the same breath as the great Bakkies. That's what hatters do!! Bwahahhahahahahahaha hilarious stuff from the oaks.
