London - England great Jeremy Guscott has called on referees to "look harder" when dealing with New Zealand players after two All Blacks were cited following the world champions' win over Ireland.

Malakai Fekitoa and Sam Cane now both face the possibility of being banned ahead of Saturday's match against France in Paris after they were each cited for "tackling an opponent dangerously" during New Zealand's 21-9 victory in Dublin last weekend.

Jaco Peyper sin-binned Fekitoa, who scored two of New Zealand's three tries, for a high tackle on Simon Zebo.

But the South African referee merely awarded a penalty for a high challenge by flanker Cane on Robbie Henshaw in the 11th minute at Lansdowne Road last Saturday that saw the centre leave the field on a stretcher.

Henshaw, who scored the clinching try as the Irish beat New Zealand 40-29 in Chicago a fortnight earlier for a first ever win over New Zealand in 111 years of matches between the countries, could now miss Ireland's international against Australia in Dublin on Saturday because of concussion.

There is a widespread belief in much of the global rugby community that New Zealand 'get away' with acts for which players from any other side are punished.

Ireland flyhalf Jonathan Sexton reacted to the lack of any colour card for Cane by telling Peyper on the field: "What? A penalty? But the player's on the stretcher."

Peyper's decision to let Cane play came just weeks after World Rugby, the sport's global governing body, urged referees to be "especially vigilant" when dealing with head-high tackles

Former England centre Guscott, now a rugby analyst for the BBC, said officials had to be "better" at punishing the All Blacks.

"Referees need to look harder at New Zealand," Guscott wrote in his BBC column.

"The All Blacks have to watch their high tackles -- they have got a reputation for it and have had two players cited from Saturday -- but for all that, you can't blame the players.

"I'm not one who thinks their players go out there to hurt anyone illegally," insisted Guscott, who also played Test rugby for the British and Irish Lions.

"There is ferocity in everything they do and they take everything to the limit, but it is up to the referee to be better at seeing and penalising them."

As for the incident that ended Henshaw's match last Saturday, Guscott said: "If Cane had been sin-binned you could not have argued.

"For me, what determined that was a yellow card was that it was shoulder first. His left arm seemed to be angled behind his shoulder and he hit Henshaw's head."

An autumn international disciplinary statement issued Sunday said: "Sam Cane, the New Zealand flank forward, has been cited for allegedly tackling an opponent dangerously in the 11th minute of the first half of the match between Ireland and New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium (Law 10.4 e).

"Malakai Fekitoa, the New Zealand centre, has also been cited, for allegedly tackling an opponent dangerously in the same match (Law 10.4 e)."

I thought the tackle from Cane was a similar height to that of what is represented in my avatar. Was it a card offence? NO it was not a card offence.I don't have sour grapes, I've dried my eyes and gotten over it, just I thought Peypers decision on Cane was correct.

this is pure BS,.... and always coming from the same players or ex-players,..... this Guscott, BOD, Sexton,... they were unable to beat the AB on the field and they want to achieve it through the refs and offfices

feikitoa's high tackle was a yellow card offense,... and a yellow card was shown,..... Sexton swinging arm to Barret's neck was another yellow card offense but it wasn't shown,... so WTF is Sexton complaining about?

Cane's wasn't a yellow card offense,... hardly a penalty,... and the fact that the Irish player had to left the field doen't change anything,... it's sad but doesn't change anything

Aaron Smith's yellow was a joke,... not even a penalty,... he wasn't offside

and Peyper expend the whole match penalyzing the AB,.... while he didn't apply the same criteria with the Irish,... at the beginning of the second half the Irish lock Tonner went completely off his feet under the nose of Peyper but there's no call,... at the end of the game exactly the same action made by Codie Taylor is penalized,.... so all this Guscott's calling for being "better" at punishing the All Blacks or looking harder to them is pure BS

Same old Poms whining and whinging, they usually wait until the game against them is on the horizon. This phase is usually followed by a denigration of the Haka.

Jeremy it's a case of great minds thinking alike. I have long lamented how the wee abs get away with murder. I suppose the pretence on the mong like faces sways matters in their favour as does NZ coin!!!!

As for the hahahahahahaka the less said the better. That adults could pull such strange faces is quite amazing. My guess also is that nz tongues are a lot longer than most a pinocchio type effect at work!

The only reason the "rest of the world" as you put it whinges is because they are just like you, click bait journelists and bitter little runts that cant stand the fact that the AB's are so far ahead of their team  in skills, talent and brains that the only thing they can do is whinge and try and get a psycological edge over them. Never going to happen that way and the sooner morons like you realise this  the sooner they might realise the only way to beat us is to improve the foundations and build from there.
We have been showing the way to do it for a 100 years and not one other country has the brains to invest at the bottom and build what we have, hell no other country can even get their number one team fit enough to play 80 minutes of rugby. I will let you in on a secret birdbrain beeno rugby is an 80 minute game.

Read it slowly kbbs and read it often.

It's what is called an inconvenient TRUTH - but one all kbbs must embrace.

Beeno keeping it real as always and reflecting a GLOBALLYT held respectable view which calls out the crooked nz oaks. Drain the Swamp!!!!

Go President Trum*p Make America Great Again after the disastrous Hussein Obummer years. I do hope these spirit cookers and pizzagate types get jailed. Drain the Swamp!!!

We need a Trum*p in SA to drain the rotten anc swamp[ as well.

If you drained the nz rugby swamp I guess the rugby would disappear in nz. Bwhahahaha hahahahahahahaha

A wide spread belief does not mean something it is true beeno, if it did the earth would actually be flat and only 6,000 years old.
But I do know one wide spread belief thats true and that is Springbok rugby is bloody hard to watch

The Irish anger & frustration is undoubtedly influenced with their abiding memory of that outrageous & unpunished incident, when saint. B O' D got dropped on his uncle Ned by Umaga & Mealamu .

Lara ... you guys cry like babies at times about all the "unfair" treatment you receive in the media.
News flash ... it comes with the job of being top dog.
Why bitch about it. You should feel honoured.
All that attention would go to the whomever sits on top of the hill. Right now it's you
