The replay clearly shows that Bosch is running to the outside of JJ (that is between JJ and the wing).
That means it is either JJ or the wing that must make the tackle. Given that JJ is the closest and it is his oppositive number, it is his man to tackle.
At the last moment Bosch sidesteps and slightly cuts back in. He is still right beside JJ who makes a lame tackle attempt and completely slips off him.
Jannie a prop of all people tries to make the cover tackle by running behind the tackle area, but it blocked by a swinging JJ who turns 360 degrees.
It is a shit tackle and it was JJ's man, not the missing inside center or the cover tackle, in this instance Jannie the prop.
It is surprising that Bosch did not cut in earlier to take on the gap that was closing by the covering defender, but then again JJ would not have been able to tackle him in a phone booth- given how close he was when he stepped JJ on his inside.
At one point JJ has his arms around Bosch, come on- all he had to do was hang on.

Twatbok now you are just lying. Bosch is heading between Jannie and JJ, the inside man is Jannie who is expected to make the tackle given defensive structures. JJ realises its Jannie and takes the decision to try stop Bosch, by which time its too late and Bosch's outside step is the nail in the coffin. JJ was going wide, tries to change direction to take Bosch but is only in a position to go high, the step takes him off balance and he ends up hardly getting a hand on him - FACT - your version is a complete lie, surprise, surprise.......It was a miss by JJ but not a measure of his defeinsive abilities as he has been a sound defender all season.
I called for JJ in the Bok side long before Meyer invited him to join and while you ignorant twats kept telling me how crap he was. Same can be said of Taute.
I identified Etzebeth, Steph du Toit and Serfontein long before they made it and have said the same about Jacques du Plessis at least a year ago.
Jannie and Jean Devilliers look allot alike, I can see how the confusion happened.

When Bosch cut inside (one step) it should actually have been Jean to make the tackle.
JJ and Jean usually align one foot away from each other defence, so really it was Jean who should have made the tackle.
Even though Bosch ran for the outside, just because he took one step on his inside this makes JJ no longer reponsibale for tackling his opposite number, as well as being the closest tackler to a player close to crossing the tryline.
If Jean was their, then JJ should have actually continued to run wide and just let Bosch take one step inside to have an open run to the tryline.
Its all starting to make sense now.
Nonsense Moz, Taute had half a hand in one NZ try and JJ has had half a hand in one Bargie try.
JJ is by far our best prospect at 13, in fact the best I have seen since Gerber. Taute is a quality player and if JJ was not available, Taute would be my option at 13.
I am hoping that some of the other young 13 prospects come through like Pat Howard, Dries Swanepoel, Tyler Fisher and Stokkies Hanekom. Players like de Allende, Rohan Janse v/Rensburg and 19 year old Esterhuizen of the Sharks might also better be suited to 13 as they are all currently employed at 12.
Circumstances dictated that miss by JJ, he does not miss one on one tackles in structured backline play.
In broken play when structures are exposed, players miss tackles when they fail to commit through a lack of trusting players around them........like having a prop on your inside.
I see no issue with JJ's defence at all much like there has never been an issue with Taute's defence.
Some players have issues with defence like Basson and Rhule. Rhule is gifted with ball in hand but he has to sort out his defence if he is to be taken seriously.

Dave seriously, JJ does have defensive issues . He gets very confused when things go off script. You can almost sense him trying to remember his instructions. There are several examples I could produce where he goes backwards off the line instead of closing with his opponent....the Bargie try in RSA for example.
But this isn't the only problem. When he is actually tackling he almost always goes high, and isn't very decisive. So he does a lot of flapping at the ball carrier. In combination these two issues are likely to become problematic.
The fact is JJ is a superb runner. But so is Basson...and his defence is seen as a deal breaker. JJ is next unless he really fixes his problem. He should decide to go low, and go forward, not wait for the runner back on his heels. Somebody needs to instill some defensive aggression in the lad. Perhaps he should be given some de Wet Barry tapes.
