This was an important match for both sides and it turned just before half-time when, with the Bulls leading 12-6, Burger Odendaal's pass was intercepted by Lwazi Mvovo, who scored a 50m try that Lionel Cronjé converted from the touchline. The Bulls centre had made the mistake of looking directly at the defender in front of him, and not at the teammate he wanted to pass to, and it cost his side seven points at a crucial time.

I was quite surprized by Engelbrecht yesterday - he came on and in fact made a line break and beat some defeders - something I have not seen this year from him.   In theat respect he was far better than De Jongh - who showed zero in attack yesterday - despite a relevantly good game by Taute.   Both were completely outplayed by Jordaan though.

Jordaan wasn't that hot Mike. Fielded one of the attacking kicks in the first half, crabbed across field a time or two ala Jaque Fourie, beating some defenders but gaining no ground, displayed his defensive weakness when attempting to tackle bigger players again when he got handed off by Ross (I think) down the touchline and had to have a second go. Feel free to point out something good I missed, I had to pop out for about 15 minutes in the last quarter of the game. To me he looks like a journeyman, good pace but in the physical stakes test rugby will eat him alive.

I take it you missed the play where De Jongh broke the line, easily stepped the tackler in front of him and only the cover coming across stopped him from reaching the line? Not saying he's the solution to any problems, but at least don't say he showed nothing in attack. There's no midfielder in the country with a more lethal step.

You missed some thoing s like a good libne break in th second half andnd Jpordaan did NOT miss any tackles - in fact he amde a try-saving tackle as well ,-.
De Jongh I nevr really saw making a line break - might have missed that one - but his defense was problematic and he lost the ball on one occassion as well.   He had been given opportunities by Taute - but never really used it.  
You must also beear in mind that WP was playing Griquas at home -not the hottest ourtfit around - while the  Sharks were playing the Bulls away - and the Sharks got much less balls to play with than  the bulls - but they in fact did more with the balls that did come their way - than WP did with the surfeit of possession they got throughout the game.    De Jongh had 5 times more possession than Jordaan and did virtually zilch with it.  
De Jongh does not have the step you credit him with - without being put into space by another player he cannot make progress in ball carroies - he is a good finisher - but a no-good creator of attacking play.

Watch this try against the Waratahs, huge jink and step to beat the final tackler. Correction: not the final tackler, the second one. He went on to beat a third before riding the fourth tackle over the tryline.

DeJongh is not my cup of tea.   A player that goes AWOL in the last two tests he played in and who has the worst defensive record in the past two years in Super 15 - is definitely not on.   The try he scored in 2012 in the final was when he was put into space by Catrakillis and he finished the try off well.   It really was easy to beat Mvovo, who was coming from an angle to try and cut him off.   He made one line break against the Waratahs  in the Stormers 22 when he faced up to some forwards - but if you want to see any real creative play by himself - you will wait for years.   
Yesterday you claimed he made a line break - but I have not seen that one in particular - if he did h made very little territory - th eone  Jordaan did made at least 30 meters and at the end of it he made sure the ball is rretined by the Sharks.   
I think DE Jongh's problem is he is too smal to functoion as a center - only 87 kgs.   Jordaan is at kleat 5 to 6 kgs heavier and better muscled.   Much is always made about two tackles missed by him - bit that was over a tperiod of two years - he rotuinely has the ebst defensive record of all SA centers in Super 15.  
By the way the one tackle he made that you may have said h had trouble with was one on Rhodes.   However, his second attempt was successful and what was better - he dragged him out of play and got a line out throw for the Sharks - 2 meters firther.

If I had footage of all the games available I could tell you when and where to look Mike, but it's a case of we see what we want to see anyway. In the 2012 try he was put into space yes, but he still had to beat two tackles (including handing off Keegan Daniel) and then step the final defender. It's fine to credit Catrakilis with the line break, but De Jongh was running the line. Just like we can credit Pollard with Hendricks' line break against NZ, but Hendricks still had to come in at the right angle. And that's how most line breaks happen - a combination of passing and angles.

Anyway, the point is you contend he doesn't have a step and he has one of the best steps in the business. There's enough evidence of that. His credentials beyond that is obviously debatable as he does have weaknesses.

 Pollard got more praise for Hendrick's try than the try scorer himself. 
A step is the only thing De Jong has, I like the look of Hanekom. 

A step is the only thing Steppie has...and it's a slow predictable step. Last defender beaten was a Scot. De Jongh is a far better centre than any of these guys.

BALLS - he is th worst defending center on Super 15 level in SA - and he brings NOTHING to the table in attacking play.  He finishes well if other players put hin in the clear - but so would any other center.   A  chappe of 87 kgs that try and do a job of a player in the 92+ kgs weight class - what a joke!!!!!!!!

But onto JJ. Last week he was pulled from the team on the day due to illness and was replaced by Small - Smith at 13. In yesterday's match he was not meant to play at all as he was still recovering. Ulrich Beyers named at 15 pulled up injured on Friday and was replaced by Jessie Kriel who moved up from the bench. JJ answered an SOS to play off the bench. Glad to be of service old man and sorry to piss on your parade.
By the way JJ had a great game beating defenders at will unlike useless de Jongh who took all of 30 seconds to miss a regulation one on one tackle.
As for Odendal he was once again very good as was his opposite number Andre Esterhuizen

Serfontein may be playing for the Boks, and de Jongh may be starting in the CC. But JJ is on the plank in the CC. And you really thought he was the answer Cheezer..haha.

 I would retort saying something that De Jong has done for the Boks, but he hasn't...

de Jongh was brilliant at going awol against England....on par with Fourie s 13m gained in 3 EOYT tests.
And to think that some clowns questioned JJ.....go figure.
What's comforting is that our esteemed coach sees Fourie as his first choice 13.....just imagine the Jean/Fourie combo come the WC? It's going to be a yawning affair.
