Pretty much as we all predicted young Johaan Goosen is the new glassboy of world rugby and it is no surprise that he has been bought in way to early and the fact that he has gained another major injury only typifies the complete lack of ignorance of South African Rugby and its management of its players.
I hope the boy is out for 6 months so that he will get time to recover properly or he will have a very short life span in this game. South Africa, Souh Africa you just dont learn do you!!!!
Yup all week the saffa fan it's had been talking the goose up as the Great All Black slayer and all week I was ridiculed for my unflattering ( yet honest) assessment of Goosen as a mediocre ( at best) first 5 with a propensity for serious injury. I blame his glass body on his proven banned supplement use as a school boy. I suspect that these supplements may have irrevocably damaged his body. Oh well. I sincerely hope his injury is not too serious. Even though I don't really rate him as anything special I still hate to see a young fella being hobbled by serious injury and poor player management.
Time to give Lambie and/or jantjies a go. I think jantjies has 10 times more potential than goosen but I doubt South Africa will ever let a blek or cullert player hold such an important position. Sheesh even JdV doesn't have any faith in poor Jantjies by not allowing him to take the penalty line kicks preferring to let peenar kick the ball for touch.
Yeah its funny the young fulla takes a couple of balls to the line against weak opposition and all of a sudden he was tauted as the next Naas Botha - Or SA answer to Dan Carter there were even more silly ramblings about him being better than Aaron Cruden .....lol
The last I looked Cruden has won all the games he has been at first five, has an exceptional kicking percentage, scored test tries, ran at the line, kicked strategically and all after only 12 months in the game. And we read trash about how Goosen is rated above him...now that is just pathetic, dont you think. Can you remind me again where Goosen is at the moment lol
Cruden has done nothing at test level against Australia or South Africa.
Goosens game against Australia was last week was better than anything Cruden has dished up at test level against Australia.
Take Carter and Mccaw out of the All Blacks and it is a very different team. Mccaw spends most of the game on the wrong side of the ruck lying over the ball.
I think the South African forwards would smash the All Black forwards if Mccaw wasnt playing(or lying on the opposition side of the ruck).
Good play by Mccaw during the bok test over the weekend, when he knocks the ball back and the referee thinks it is a knock on by a bok player who places the ball behind him. Very sporting as he is well aware that a referee cant see that type of stuff it happens so quickly.
That was penalizable for playing the ball on the ground and playing the ball from an offside position. Instead the All Blacks get a scrum and stop another dominant bok forwards recycling. Although it is standard stuff from Richie Mccaw. Our fowards would smash the All Blacks without Mccaw. The standard of referees will improve and so too will the increase of video technology to reverse decisions. Mccaw is lucky he is before this era or he would spent much of the game watching behind the poles.
This technology is being trialled in this years Currie Cup as often is the case with new Rugby technology.

Nuke you are right that this kid was rushed back from injury....but in fairness he looked very good against Oz. He is a talent....pace and 60m place kicks confirm that. But we had another superb talent in the person of Gaffie du Toit. The fastest Bok on the park in his young days and with vision and a huge boot. He often did things too quickly for the players around him.
He was ruined by playing against NZ too soon. I hope we haven't done the same to Goosen.

Worldchamp- The All Blacks won because the backline is much better than the Springbok backline. The first half our forwards dominated but the AllBlacks were still looking like winning because of counter attacking skills by the backline, with some contributions from the All Blacks forwards in the loose. However I think you would agree that the backs are where the real difference was.
Goosen got injured at the start of the test, not on the tackle of lock scoring the try. I still say that our fowards could beat the All Blacks, but its 15 man rugby so I have no doubt that the better team won. Carter is miles better than both Cruden and Goosen. Both are young players but not likely to get near Carter. Goosen is looking injury prone and Cruden plays better at Superxv level than test level so far. We were in the game until Goosen fell apart. We got a try to start albeit the pass looked slightly forward. If Goosen had played the whole game, the match would have been closer. It was clear against Australia that our backs have improved with Goosen instead of Morne in the Car Park pocket. Our backline was pathetic on the day, and we just have a shortage of quality inside backs. Our backs were the best they have been the whole year against Australia,. Our outside backs are fine, but we have serious depth issues of inside backs. When we get injuries to inside backs, the next inline is usually miles away. Put Carter and Sunny Bill/Nonu in the bok team playing at full strength and we could beat the Allblacks- although that is of course hypothetical

The main positive to come from the past couple of months for the Springboks was their forward play, particularly in the second half of the competition. In this area they were rarely bettered and other than the second half in Soweto, had the better of the All Blacks.
They were brutal, throwing themselves at their opponents and getting good go-forward. The only blemish comes in their fitness, which seemed to affect them in Soweto as the All Black pack gained the upper hand in the second half after the South Africans dominated forward play for the first 40.

Lets not talk hypothetical stuff lets talk real time and agree that Carter and co would makea difference but they would make a difference in any team. But as I said SA are living in this dream world that their forwards are all high and mighty........mate if they cant last any longer than 60 minutes then they are shite in my books.

Will say Goosen looked good against OZ. But the AB's were always going to put the pressure on him, I think Keiran Read said as much, which would explain how his effectiveness was negated while he was on the field. Kinda compliment to the young fellow, that the AB's would afford him the attention. He has a few seasons to build his test skills and looks promising.
