Doesn't sound as if anyone at Montpellier is going to miss Joke White when he leaves.

According to this article published on the Rugby World website, it'll be a case of good riddance to bad rubbish.

A few excerpts that confirm pretty much exactly what I was saying last week:

“The former Springbok coach has never courted the affection of the locals. Big mistake. White isn’t the first Anglophone coach to fail in France, and he won’t be the last, but that a man of his experience should have so utterly misread the French psyche suggests stubbornness or vanity got the better of him.

It went wrong from just about the first moment White arrived at the club in January 2015 and made an ill-judged joke about Montauban. Then he fired a lot of French players, hired a lot of South African players and got them playing a style of rugby that bored Montpellerians to tears."

. . .
and . . .

"Might not the fact that crowd numbers are on the wane have also alarmed Altrad? The average gate this season is 10,431, nearly 3,000 fewer than three years ago. Yet this is a club that last season won the Challenge Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Top 14. Fans should be flocking to cheer on their boys. But the locals don’t want to cheer for a team of South Africans, the ‘Langueboks’, as they’ve been dubbed. Of the 39 players listed on the Montpellier website, 18 are French."

Apart from applying for other positions in the middle of his contract and making Montpellier play boring old Jakeball, Joke's refusal (or inability) to learn even basic French was apparently also a contributing factor.

Who would be dumb enough to sign this self-serving opportunist?

This is the excerpt that appeared in News24:-

"A European-based rugby writer claims Jake White’s departure from Montpellier will be welcomed at the French club.

This comes after the French Top 14 side recently confirmed that White will leave them after the 2016/17 season.

He will be replaced by current Scotland coach, Vern Cotter.

According to Gavin Mortimer, a scribe in France for Rugby World, White has not been the most popular man since joining Montpellier in 2015.

“The saddest thing about Jake White’s departure is that no one much cares in Montpellier,” Mortimer wrote in a column for the Rugby World website.

“The former Springbok coach has never courted the affection of the locals. Big mistake. White isn’t the first Anglophone coach to fail in France, and he won’t be the last, but that a man of his experience should have so utterly misread the French psyche suggests stubbornness or vanity got the better of him.

“It went wrong from just about the first moment White arrived at the club in January 2015 and made an ill-judged joke about Montauban. Then he fired a lot of French players, hired a lot of South African players and got them playing a style of rugby that bored Montpellerians to tears.”

According to the French press, White’s failure to learn the language to any significant degree was a contributory factor in Montpellier president Mohed Altrad’s decision not to extend his contact.

French publication L’Equipe reported that White wanted to stay on in his role.

White, 52, coached the Springboks to the Rugby World Cup title in 2007. He also coached the Brumbies and Sharks in Super Rugby."

There are three reasons for the termination of Jake White:-

*    The type of rugby that bores the spectators to tears and cause match attendance deficiency - same as the case was with the Sharks.   Jakeball is not real rugby and Coetzee will also find that out.

*     The hiring of too many foreigners - damaging development of rugby.

*     The language issue - he did not learn to speak French and that caused problems in local relationships.

JAKEBALL IS DEADLY MONOITONOUS TO WATCH AND ALTHOUGH AT TIMES SUCCESSFUL TO A POINT IT ULTIMATELY COLLAPSES .   YOU CAN TAKE A TEAM THROUGH TO FOR INSTANCE THE SEMIES PLAYING THAT KIND OF GAME - BUT THEN THE WHEEELS COME OFF BADLY.

Jake will find it very difficult to find a job in SA.  Most Super Rugby teams is moving slowly out of the Jakeball phase and will not revert to it.   He could become an assistant to Coetzee - but that would bring to similar characters together and be the death of SA Rugby - not if one takes into account the obvious dead backline rugby played on Saturday,    As to the rest he could always go back to the Pacific Islands and never be heard from again.

He brought Staampkaar rugby to France. His game plan is to have South African ball carriers in the team who will follow his game plan without opposition- and kick unless in the opposition 22.
The ego of Jake White must have clashed with the owner. Just like the football team Chelsea- who clashes with a coach that gets more media attention than him

Funny stuff....written by a non Frog who spent time in the area. Nice journalistic angle with no recognition for the improvement in the fortunes of the team. Words.... when you hire Jake it's not because he is the most popular guy, but because he wins. Let's see how they feel next year, if the Sharks are any measure the team will be rethinking their decision. Barking dogs barking up the wrong tree again.

Jakeball can win against weak opponents - against stronger teams it fails.  That is why the public is not interested in what is produced.   It was after all a Frenchman who decided on the change and a journalist who gave the real reason for the change.   The Sharks will never re-appoint White - his Jake-balling cost them a fortune as a result of people staying away from games.

Listen, greatest fool ever, there was a serious decline in crowd attendance at Kings Park in 2014 and the reason was that the type of jakeball rugby is not acceptable to the harks supporters.    This was all over the papers after White's contract was terminated and the attendance issue were  given in reports - so they were not talking trip.   Have you still got Sh!t on the Brain disease?

That's right Tokkie. In 2014 under Jake White the Sharks had the highest average attendance of any S15 team. In 2015 without Jake the average dropped to 19961 from the impressive 29948 recorded in 2014. A drop of 34%.....a drop from first under Jake to 5th without him. So Tokkie the poor attendance under Jake is another thumb suck....another case of wishful intuition. Tiresome Tokkie, cheap, dishonest....classless. Clean up your act.

The comparison should be with 2012, 2013 and 2014 dud.   The damage to attendance figures were done by White and the figures dwindled further in 2015 after the main damage was done by Jakeball in 2014,  Hell you are dim to compare 2015 and 2014.

Okay Tokkie let's do it your way 2013 Sharks average attendance 21679 2014 .....Jake's year the average attendance 29948 2015 The first year after Jake, average attendance 19961 Before you ask for something you really should know the answer. Now you are left standing there with egg streaming off you, exposed yet again as a bare faced liar.

I can confirm Mozart's figures from Statbunker. If you claim he is talking crap, back it up with evidence.
@Wardad - "stampkar" (not stampkaar) is the Afri-kaans term for bumper cars. It refers of course to the tendency of ball carriers to consistently seek out contact instead of attacking space or looking to distribute.

If you were presented with two candidates for employment, who would you select?
1. Someone highly skilled but sadly suffers from severe arsehole syndrome ... a self centred pr!ck who's only thought is "what's in it for me" ... one with an unpleasant way about him ... a bad attitude ... prone to pouting, stubborness ... unresponsive to suggestion ... in short, a Twat and in the end doesn't deliver quite to the standard he said he would.
or
2. Someone not as skilled but competent enough to get the task done. Someone who has an awesome attitude ... is open to your opinion ... brings a smile ... a team player ... welcomes suggestion and is prepared to work with those above him for the betterment of the team .
I know who I'd pick.
Jake is just an unpleasant pr!ck. He's not wanted by most who've had dealings with him. The Sharks will never take him back and neither will the Brumbies. The Boks don't want him and he can now add Montpellier to the list.
I'm sure his wife of more than 25 years was glad to see him go.
It doesn't matter what he's achieved when no one wants anything to do with him.

Why did they fire White then if he was that wonderful for the Sharks rugby?   According to the media it was because he caused serious divisions in the team, he played a style of rugby foreign to the Sharks and there was a serious drop in gate money.
I know you like Jake-ball - not rugby - so you must be happy about him as coach - very few others are.   And believe me the Sharks management has learnt  their lesson with that one - they will never offer him another position.   He could take up the coaching of the Kings - probably the only SA team that would  have him if put under suitable p ressure.

Well at least ou Mike is on the right track here, as John Smit is on record claiming that White treated the players like schoolboys and the senior players in particular weren't willing to put up with it anymore.

I do not doubt that he treated the players like school boys and - but for one player he made an exception - Fat Fransie could do no wrong.   I can remember Fat Fransie embracing him at one match.   Keegan Daniel must also have had some impact - White discarded the previous captain without any hesitation after an apparent clash with Fat Fransie.
His relationship with especially the Du Plessis brothers were atrocious - so much so that they were very unhappy when they signed a contract with Montpellier and afterwards found out that he was contracted by Montpellier as coach.   According to newspaper reports  they even considered getting out of their Montpellier contract when the White appointment was finalized, but could not find an alternative team that would contract them together.
Just wonder whether that issue did not contribute to the present situation as well.
