Finally got a chance to watch CC final. Moving to see the tears and emotion in Kaplan's face before the kickoff - what a game this game of rugby and he was a true servant and a fan himself.

Quite a resume !!


He obviously was able to do what he loves at a high level for a long time. We may not all achieve such prestige and recognition in our own professions, but that shouldn't keep us from going at it 100%, leaving nothing on the table so that when the final whistle blows on our lives we could have the same sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

Thanks for posting Oimatey. I shed a tear for Jonathan Kaplan too. A great referree and a true gentleman. Very moving for me too to see the emotions in his face before the kickoff. 
Wish you all the very best in your future Jonathan. I rate you very highly.

There are very few referees that achieved that type of record in refereeing.   I was thinking of the total number of matches he refereed.   Working it out - he must have refereed a match every weekend  for about 16 years - taking into account that there are about 40 weekends of refereeing in SA and I know he refereed matches in Europe during our summer break.

 

That seems to be an enormous work rate for anybody in the refereeing field and is a record unlikely to be equalled or broken ever.

 

He is likely to continue in off-field work on referee development and really wish him well for the future.

Congrat Mr Kaplan!!
To be a Ref at that level is the highest accountability you can have. To  have over 100, 000 people watching your every call with the chance you can get the big one wrong - wow that takes guts.  And then to do it for so long  & still be respected, now that is an accomplishment.

Nice sentiments, oimatey, and I agree with you 100%. Kaplan was a great ref for a very long period of time . . . which is a remarkable achievement given the fickle nature of fans and their tendency to blubber about the ref every time their team loses.

 rooitiwt please you are the last person to know if a ref is competent or not. In your book they are all competent although we all know that is not the case.But that aside well done to Kaplan a fine ref and example to you know who!!
