Josh Strauss once again proves his versatility and that he is a true leader of men - IMO he not only deserves a Boks call up, he deserves the Boks captaincy role!

Hakwa, you're probably right, folks tend to overlook the guy when they are talking Springboks, but he really isn't a bad option.-

After the previous games the general concensus on a number of forums and newspaper articles was that he was not in contention for the Boks yet.

Who's leading the charge Ceradyne, I guess outside Spies who HM will almost certainly pick for that spot?

@poi-e, I trust that HM and his team would do what is best for the side and the dynamics within the side. I do not buy this popular idea that HM will pick a side with his Bulls blinkers on. He is not that stupid. He has not made any decisions public, and a lot of people (especially many from the Stormers support base) has read a lot about his "Bulls bias" into the set-up of his management team. In the last few days that very same support base are hailing him again because his "decision to appoint Jean de Villiers as the new Bok Captain".

It is actually hilarious. Every time that he has an interview with the media, he keeps on reminding everybody that he has not selected anybody yet, least of all the captain. Even as far as the JDV captaincy story goes. He said in that interview that his remarks should be view in context. The context was that the remarks was made following the camp with the Stormers players. He had different remarks after the first two camps as well, and I am sure that he and the team are busy analysing everything, now that the camps are over and done with, and they will further analyse the players in the next few rounds of S15, and will only then start putting the team together.

I cannot see Heyneke Meyer putting provincial bias before the goal of winning matches, He just is not that kind of person, IMO. He knows as well as anybody that the spotlight is on him because of the coaching team that was appointed, irrespective of what the reasons for that was and, sad as it may seem, there are few people out there who cannot wait for him to fail, so that they can jump on his back. That is just the nature of some people.

Remarkable. You accuse WP supporters of being against HM, based on almost no evidence. And then generalize that to the same folks wanting him to fail.

I don't know of Bok supporter who wants HM to fail. In fact his appointment was loudly praised. He has made quite a few statements of late and those have been evaluated, as would be the case for any coach.

Correct moz,  he was a huge part of the mob who relentless scorned, mocked and ridiculed the Stormers/WP on that other site for months on end. He was smug, had no shame and thoroughly enjoyed himself in the process.

He has inspirationally led the Lions into oblivion. He isn't even a good S15 player.

You have obviously not read the many snide remarks on news articles. Nor have you read the "reports" that his biggest challenge would be to "leave his Bulls mentality" behind in Pretoria.

Guys if we are that desperate....we might have to recall older players like Morne du Plessis and Tommy Bedford.

No way in my humble opinion is Josh a Springbok captain or even a Springbok.

There is a ton of talent around that would add positively to any Springbok side.

The Bulls flanks are awesome, young, aggressive and talented, any of they could be switched to #8 to repace Spies while players like Vermuelen recover from injury.

Also there is Daniels, Coetzee, Alberts etc who are also knocking.

Strauss should/will captain the Springboks in the test series against England. He is playing the best rugby of his career and is a captain who can bring out the best in his players...note what he has done for the Free Staters.

@ Ceradyne.....coaches are always accused of a provincial mindset at the outset. PdV was. What is written about Meyer is much the same, perhaps inflated a bit by  the  fact that there are many Bools playing for the Boks. This isn't a controversy, it's just normal service. You are much too sensitive.

@ AJ.....I agree we have much better players than Strauss and Spies. And were it not for Bismarck I would be delighted to have the Lion er Cheetah hearted Strauss as captain. I rate these guys who have passion.

No Moz, you have it wrong. The one main point of "attack" on Meyer is that we can expect the so-called kick and charge rugby that is played by the Bulls. This despite the fact that the Stormers are the leading team at "the kicking game".  They have launched the highest number of kicks in the entire competition, with 235 kicks, against the Bulls who are lying 11th with 170 kicks.www.verusco.com/verusco_stats_portal.php

The other point of criticism is the coaching staff that was appointed. The fact that the first people who were aproached to join his coaching squad were Coetzee and Erasmus.

Agreed hawk, the lad is great and I loved his leadership touch right in the begining when he tapped debutant Ruan Botha on the back encouraging him after he slipped a pass.

The guy plays it like Schalk, puts his body on the line. The Kiwi commentators love him and rightly so......got to laugh at the clowns on here who keep knocking - ignorance of the highest order.

I'd be more than happy with Josh as our Bok captain. Would love to see him in the company of a dominant side
