Juan Smith will miss the Cheetahs’ training camp in Jeffrey’s Bay due to his ongoing battle with an Achilles injury. (was it Becs who said these injuries were vey difficult to overcome)

The Springboks flank missed the World Cup last year because of the ailment but was expected to be ready for the start of the Super Rugby tournament. Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske had said that while Smith wouldn’t be risked in pre-season matches against the Kings, Stormers and Lions, he would accompany the squad to the camp at Jeffrey’s Bay and in all likelihood feature in the opening Super Rugby round.

But news from Bloemfontein is that Smith experienced so much discomfort following a training session that he will not travel to Jeffrey’s Bay at all. Die Volskblad reports that Smith will see a specialist to assess the injury and from there the Cheetahs medical team will decide whether Smith will be ready for the Round 1 clash against the Lions

This is not looking good but hope Juan recovers as he will be a great asset to the Cheethas.

It's unfortunate, but we must press on. Brussow will more than hold his own regardless. I wonder how hard he was pushed to be ready last year? I hope it did not worsen the injury. Just give him time to heal properly and he'll be back to his best. It's never worth the ridk to rush players back.
