Juan Smith Brillance

 Wise up muncher schalk was injured today. Juan has never been in Schalks class. Also take into account opposition.

 Ou Beenbal, if you have watched the match and if you have been watching Juan Smith play this season, then you can be vocal about Juan Smith. I have not watched the Stormers game, but I watched the run-up and the entire HC final. So, I am in no position to judge Schalk's game today. Having said that, Juan Smith has been great for Toulon the entire season. He looks as good as he has always been.

 Was Schalk in the final? Anyway, why chose between them when you can have both.

Running after ex-Springboks who have retired from international rugby and now play club rugby is not the answer to selection as Springboks.  Most are way past their prome and most disappoint when selected for the Springboks.  
Players past their prime years as rugby players - ie players in the age group of 30+ years - can only in their declining years take us back to the poor 2011 performances.  There really is no future in selecting these players for the Springbok team.   
Mention is made of Schalk Burger - one of my favourite players.  Burger's [rpb;em is that even if the spirit is willing - the body shows reluctance.  He plays 2 matches and then is out of the next two or more  matches with injuries.
Do we need these players in the Springbok team?   Most foreign club players have neem dioisappointd when called up for international duty.   We have had Bakkies Botha, Gurthro Steenkamp and no attack ability Jaque Fourie as examples.
We should only select these players if the cupboard locally is empty and in most cases it is not.   I can accept players like Flo and Habana as being in the "must have" category and do not think other foreign players really make any difference as to the strength of the Springbok team.     After all these players may make an impression on club level - but are they still capable to pe rform on international level in SH conditions are highly questionable.

Juan Smith was and still is a great flank and deserved every cap he received representing his country.
Sckalk had his great games as well but the body cannot take the punishment any longer.
Pity but true.
Obviously these players are not in the same league as you were when you represented the Boks.

It appears poor AJ also thinks Juan, who I have said was a fine player, is light years better than Schalk. Now would anyone with any rugby acumen make a crazy statement like that. No of course not. Juan was never as good as Schalk that is the obvious truth.
BUrger took a very awkward knock in the kneck region coutesy of ther 127kg Coenie and a companion. Dont rule Schalk out just yet. If thsi injury is not serious he will be back.AJ if you dont evn know I am a Stormers supporter what do ya know!! 
Juan needs to come back here to prove himslef. Playing slow paced rugby against relatively weak NH sides is not conclusive proof. That dictum applies to all NH players.Play here in 2015 or miss out. Mike has a point of sorts.  Even Habana and Louw. Are they going to seed overseas? We need proof as to where they are as players.

Yeah Juan had a great game......cant say the same for Bakkies, Habana and Danie.
Craig Burden and Schalk Brits also had great games.......I could not believe the number of SA's in that final.
Toulon had 5 with Joe v/Niekerk out injured which would have made it 6 and Sarries had 6........all of 3 Frenchmen in the Toulon starting 15

 Have to agree with Saffex, Juan had an amazing game. Couldn't believe the work that he put in. Bakkies lasted all of 45 min before being subbed with Danie. Can't see how bakkies will make 20 min in test rugby. I would have Juan in my team any day.
Habana was the most disappointing of the lot. One chip kick followed by an egg on his face football style dive where he got reprimanded by the reff and his only other contribution was to try his intercept and dropping the ball once he was in the clear. 
Please don't select habana for the test matches. I would even go as far as to both him and JP should be dropped and have Mvovo and Sithole on the wings.
I think Australia would do well if they had Giteau and Mitchell in their team.

Bakkies and Rossouw have been played in tandem by many coaches in there careers. Bakkies normally makes way for Rossouw at between 50 and 60 minutes into the game. On this occasion Bakkies was not even replaced by Rossouw, let alone after 45 minutes. Bakkies and Rossouw actually both started the game together. If you have bothered to watch the entire "show" including the pre-match interviews, you would have known to expect that. They had an interview with Joe v Niekerk and they specifically asked about the 6:2 bench and Joe said that they were going to enforce their game. They replaced both their locks at the same time when they swapped Botha with Ali Williams and Rossouw with Jocelino Suta after 51 minutes, not 45. That was their game plan right from the start.

Habana was all but disappointing, IMO. Although th stats does not quite reflect that, he did a hell of a lot on defence. He was always assisting in defence. He was also a very closely marked man the entire game. Marking Habana like that blew up in Sarries' faces when Giteau and Drew Mitchell, with the help of Johnny Wilkinson did the damage on the other side. Once again, from the pre-match program it was clear that Habana was going to be watched and guarded very closely, as was Sarries' Chris Ashton. Will Greenwood in his preview pointed out, with many examples why Habana (for Toulon) and Ashton (for Sarries) were going to be the danger men if not marked properly.

You are correct about Giteau and Mitchell though, but the Aussies seemed to have washed their hands on both of them.

 
Juan Smith is a natural blindsider. An awesome player.

Schalk is a better blind side flank than he is an opensider. He's no Juan at 7 though.

Besides, the lad's injury prone. Talented he may be ... however it's a little tough to give of your best when you find yourself sidelined every other match with some medical issue.

There's no room for inconsistency.
