8 Duane Vermeulen, South Africa and Toulon
Unfortunately, Billy Vunipola still looked a way off his best as he continued to recover from injury late in the northern hemisphere season, but that should take nothing away from the return to the international arena of Vermeulen.
He has been a solid performer for Toulon in the Top 14 but it has been his recall to the Boks that has seen him return to his dominant and marauding best. He tore into England across all three Tests this month and the men in white had no answer to stop him in the first two contests.

Funny, we were told he was useless for Toulon. I found myself nodding with most of these choices until they came up with Kolisi....the bs flows.

Anybody recognize this player:
7 Siya Kolisi, South Africa and Stormers
Sam Cane, James Davies and Dan Leavy were all close and some may say Kolisi’s impact on the field has been over-exaggerated because of his accomplishments off the field, as the Springboks’ first black captain. Those people would be wrong.
Kolisi has exemplified the calm, composed and clinical play of the new-look Springboks under Erasmus and though the Stormers have been struggling in Super Rugby, the flanker has consistently played at an elevated level in the club game.

I agree, Kolisi was a non-entity IMO. Cane would be a better selection, I don't know about Davies and Leavy as I haven't seen much of their play.
I would have picked A. Smith for nine. B. Barrett not being selected is another surprise but I didn't see much of Sexton's performance so can't judge fairly.

Sexton gets a lot of favourable press.....but for me Connor Murray is the real competitor.

These things are always a joke, everyone knows it should just be the 15 All Blacks, Our players are all miles ahead of any other nation.
Just the scribes are being politacallly correct and putting some also rans from other countries in

If Kolisi can make this team then it leaves me wondering about the quality of the other players.
Willie Le Roux ... the world's best 15?? Wow!! Didin't see that coming. lol!!!
The Duane Vermeulen we saw in the first test was an energized maniac, playing as though he were a mere 25 years old. I'm sure he was well and truly pumped up with energy drinks etc.
The Duane we saw in the 3rd test looked worn out. So I don't buy into him being a permanent member of the Bok camp.
I think he needed the rest and so signed a deal in Japan. It's an easy way out. The test series against the pathetic Poms must have taken it's toll. Why else would he be so keen to avoid the All Blacks?
We need to find ourselves a permanent 8th man ... not one that hires himself out like a freelance photographer ... whenever he feels up to it.

He was our best forward in the first two tests.....by far. This is a guy who is in his last year or two drawing a salary from rugby.....if it was you, wouldn't you go to Japan for your family?

Vermeulen after the second test complained about "aches and pains" and in the third test was really nowhere to be seen - he was average at best.
I give him credit for his performance in the first two tests - but now has question marks about his intention as to playing for SA. No player should be allowed to pick and choose which tests he will play in and which not. Will he play in the EOYT tour? We will have to wait and see whether he does and if he does not there are only three tests to be played before the WC.
Vermeulen was released from is contract with Toulon since he wanted to return to SA - now he is off to Japan. He could have stayed with Toulon if they wanted him - but it is clear they did not. So off to Japan where the soft rugby is even softer.

Vermuelen was playing with an injury the third test. How many times must that be stated.

Man some of you guys are hard on your players. Vermuelen was a big part of the Bok revival and without him your chances of beating the Poms would be drastically reduced. Sure he was hurting in the third test but that's because he gave his all for the first two. Give the man a break.

Mike can't wait to put in the knife. But let's face it saying Vemeulen was going to flop and then seeing him selected for the All World June team has to be incredibly embarrassing. Now he is coming up with all sorts of spiteful stuff......a small, nasty thick provincial government worker with delusions of grandeur.

Players that have been through more seasons of wear and tear need to be managed, especially physical wrecking balls like Vermeulen. Need to be wrapped in cotton wool, although would rather have done that at the EOYT - instead of the 4 nations.
