A fit-again Warren Whiteley has been included in the Lions' touring squad for their four-game Australasian tour, while new scrumhalf recruit Nic Groom is also included.

Coach Swys de Bruin on Monday named a 27-man Lions squad for the tour which includes games against the Waratahs (Sydney, April 20), Reds (Brisbane, April 28), Hurricanes (Wellington, May 5) and Highlanders (Dunedin, May 12).

Whiteley, the Lions captain, has recovered from a knee injury suffered against the Blues last month, while Groom is picked after arriving from English club Northampton Saints.

Regular scrumhalf Ross Cronje is still sidelined with a rib injury and will miss the tour, along with promising winger Aphiwe Dyantyi, who is struggling with a pectoral muscle injury.

Sorry Chippo - He injured his knee again when in training and will not play this weekend and it is unsure when he in fact will return to play.

We can't keep waiting for him.

We must carry on as though there is no Whiteley. The Bok 8 jersey doesn't belong to him. He should be made to earn it.

Bring Ackermann back from overseas. He would be the perfect fit.

You believe so - good luck to you.    I do not believe Ackerman is in any other supporters corner as a potential no 8,   He is too much of an error-making player for that.

Listen - you do not know about rugby - hence the idiot laugh at the end of your above posting.  

There is one thing Wiese is that Alberts and your other favourites never was - he is a loosie and aside from that a thinking player.    For that reason he will be in the Spri ngbok team sooner rather than later.

Wiese 34 tackles made in 42 attempts for an 80% average. Wiese 183 metres fom 29 runs for 6.3 metres per carry Wiese 4 turnovers in 29 runs. ...... Mostert 100 tackles from 117 for an 85% success ratio Mostert 335 from 57 runs for an average of 5.9 metres per run Mostert 3 turnovers in 57 runs But Mostert is supposedly useless and Wiese is great, what a laugh.

Yes he did invite Wiese ... but he also invited Ralapelle, Jantjies and Kolisi.

What's your point?

Alberts was a powerhouse ... a freak of nature ... a superb blindside flank in his day. He made a massive difference to every team he played for. We all saw that he was destined to go down as a great Bok ... even as early as when he first started playing for the Lions. .

Wiese on the other hand, can't even make the Stormers starting line-up regularly.

Alberts was a freak - but he was no loosie.  He was slow and clumsy, made minimal ball carries and tackles (the latter of which he missed all the crucial tackles he was supposed to make) and  he to date does not know what breakdown balls protection and recovery mean because by the time he got to breakdown points the ball was already gone.  Maybe he could have been a prop - but even in that position he was too slow to function properly.

It was with real disappointed that Whieley's latest injury during training was more serious than initially indicated.   He is unlikely to start playing until the Lions return to SA. 

After their tour the Lions have only two games before the start of the June tests  - so the problem is that after that long absence Whiteley may not start in more than one match before the June tests.

Very sorry about the latest news - and it leaves the Springboks with a problem insofar as selection of a no 8.

I don't understand why the Springbok captain plays club rugby in Japan, instead of having an offseason. The same thing happened to Pollard when he overplayed himself in Japan. At least the global season will help reduce playing time.
