No doubt Etzebeth has the goods, but can't really recall anything extraordinary that he's done in matches other than SA fans on this site almost worshipping at his feet everytime his name sees print....Beeno is almost like his cyber girlfriend, groupie. He may be the best enforcer in the SA game because that's how SA fans have built him up, in NZ I doubt he is viewed other than a talented lock and at his age Ali Williams was a far more skillful player, though agree that his best years are behind him. Retallick haven't made my mind up about him yet......

Saffex, was not deriding Etzebeth I just don't think he's the second coming of Colin Meads like you SA fans seem to think he is. Ali Williams in his prime was a lock forward with the skills of a back. He played both a tight and open game and was exceptionally good at both, in fact at his prime he rivaled Matfield as the best lock in the world but it was his open support play which I think put him above Matfield. I remember one test against the BoksI think where AB's put 50+ points on the Boks where the SA comentators were dribbling about the AB forward skillset vs their Bok counterparts. Etzebeth is a physical specimen but gym bodies and rugby bodies are 2 different things ask Pierre Spies, he may very well produce the goods but all I'm saying is that internationally so far he hasn't done anything exceptional....and I don't mind being proved wrong about it either.

Saffex "Etzebeth has taken lock play to a another level".....How and When and who against. Next he'll be walking on water. He still has a way to go to be considered the best...and sorry but have you seen Ali Williams in his prime...if so you would not have made an unsubstantiated assessment of him. And Beeno didn't love Matfield, but respected him as a player, if you don't respect your own players a player your selectors believe in and at the time the international rugby fraternity agreed was the best in the world, it is you being naïve...and throws into question your actual rugby knowledge.

Beeno, didn't say Matfield was the best ever, but in his prime was rated best in the world, best lock EVER goes to Colin Meads. SA fans are so in love with Etzebeth that this thread has become pointless. all "you say I say" But I do hope he develops into as good a player as his potential suggests.
