Per home page:

England forwards coach Graham Rowntree is to seek "clarification" from the IRB regarding the performance of referee Steve Walsh in Saturday's 30-3 defeat by Wales.

Rowntree - a former international prop - was especially annoyed by the way in which Walsh controlled the breakdown and the scrum.

Wales dominated both areas as they surged to a record win over England that saw them retain the Six Nations title and deny their arch-rivals a Grand Slam at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

England were repeatedly penalised at the scrum and Rowntree's mood is unlikely to be improved by reports suggesting Wales players later privately admitted they had collapsed the set-piece on six occasions.

And the Red Rose brigade also had complaints about the legality of the turnover that led to the first of two second-half tries for Wales' Alex Cuthbert -- an incident England head coach Stuart Lancaster labelled the "tipping point" of the match.

Rowntree indicated the way in which Walsh oversaw the title-decider was at variance with what the referee had told him during the pre-match meeting and he would now be seeking an explanation from Joel Jutge, the French former Test referee who is now the IRB's referees' chief.

"I sat up on Saturday night and watched the game again forensically," said Rowntree.

"I'm annoyed at a lot of the outcomes and I will be speaking to the IRB to get some clarification about it.

"With Joel Jutge now in charge of the IRB referees, he's very keen for an open forum and a very honest review process from the coaches and the referees. (HOORAH - No more nz nonsense re paddy etc!)

"In most of the games I've submitted glowing reports on referees but on this occasion we were frustrated by a lot of the outcomes and I will be speaking to Joel to get some clarification (about the) breakdown and scrum.

"I spoke to Steve after the game. We both agreed that we would go away and have a look at the game again. Having watched it, I need clarification.

"A lot of those decisions were big, game momentum-changing decisions."

Some pundits criticised England for being insufficiently "streetwise" and not adapting quickly to Walsh's interpretations at the scrum where Wales props Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones had a field day.

However, Rowntree - who has repeatedly insisted he is not in the business of coaching any scrum 'tricks' - said: "I don't buy this whole 'streetwise' thing.

"We just want a clean outcome at the scrum, we don't practice anything different," he added.

There were widespread concerns voiced by England fans, if not team management, when they saw Walsh had been appointed to Saturday's key fixture because of his previous outings with England that included a touchline row with fitness coach Dave Redddin at the 2003 World Cup. (Rule should be NO KIWI refs they are at best incompetent)

New Zealand-born Walsh, 40 was sacked by the New Zealand Rugby Union in 2009 following his drunken arrival at a refereeing conference. (Note it was for drunkeness but not incompetence. One embarrasses the kiws the other doesnt for obvious reasons)

But he moved to Sydney where, having rebuilt his life, he resumed full-time refereeing under the banner of the Australian Rugby Union in 2011, taking charge of England's 19-12 World Cup quarter-final defeat by France in Auckland in October that year.

Well it looks like it was revenge time for the kiwis and their man Walsh put the boot into England.

I do hope countries are getting the message though re Kiw refs.

Now please no bleats its very obvious what happened kiwis.

Come now Beeno - don't get caught by the rubbishy and unsportsmenlike English.  I looked at the inscidemnt and could not find anything done wrong by the Welsh players.   In any event Walsh was from Nw Zealand originally - but he moved to Asutralia - so don't get caught in that trap either.  I have always rated Walsh as a good referee - and I think what is sid now is sour grapes.

Some of his calls were shit just like some of those saffa refs and the rest, to begin with he was blowing both sides up.

The difference in this match however was experience, Wales adapted, England did not simples

It would be stupid (and therefore very beano like) to assume Walsh would risk his career because of the outcome of 'another' rugby game.

@mikey,

dont watse ur breath trying to explain to beeno1 aka storminged wlash is regarded as an aussie ref, poor beeno aka stormingeds definiton of a complex puzzle is colouring in a picture without going over the lines, LMAO, :oP

in saying that, walsh is a very good ref most of the time, but during the wal/eng test, i thought he was very poor, especially upfront and i even stated as much in my wal/eng review not long after the game.
the scrum was my the only area i thought walsh did a poor job in though, the rest of the game was simply wales blowing away a lackluster english team.

not surprised to hear graham rowntree crying like a little girl though, its the same ongoing cycle of rubbish that the english go through after their media boldy stated that eng would be the 6nat champs after the first week, o_O
rowntrees cries are to be expected, just like beeno1 aka storminged can be expected to blame the ref everytime the stormers or Boks lose, :o)

I can only applaud Rowntree for launching an enquiry re Walsh's nz style refereeing. More than that I urge all team who get diddled by bent nz refs to do the same.

Probably ou Welshie will get a rapp over the knuckles and hopefully a  very blunt warning.

Well done Mr Rowntree we need more coaches like you to stand up to bent nz refereeing.

Now please kiwi bird brains accept it that once agin a nz ref has been found wanting!

I do hope the details of the findings are made public. Name them and shame should be the principle.

Fanct these kiwi bird barain trying to say welshie was okay when it appears the welshies admitted to cheating and welshie the ref let them get away with it. Bwahahahahahaha.

saSUE/aka storming Ed needs to acknowledge that welshie, the ref, has further blackened the all black name of nz refs. How black can it get is thequestion.  Hahhahahahahhahaha.

Ou maaaaaik of course loves sucking up to these kiwis as long as the Boks are not effected. Ou maaaaaik you need to be consistent in this and make a stand against bent kiw refs wherever they ply their trade.

And no the fact ou welshie lives in Oz does not make him a bent Oz ref.

Hahahahhaahaha amazing how they try to wiggle out of things these kiwis!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poly your problem is you have no clue as to the meaning of reasonable, factual and trule statements.

Allblack and blue what you fail to realise there is no adapting to a bent nz ref. It cant be done. The welshies were cheating and ou welshie the ref let them get away with it. Bwahahahahahahhaha

The image of that dope Rowntree watching the game "forensically" is quite funny. The fact is King Cole was under the cosh....the Poms still haven't grasped that this guy, far from being the best tighthead on the planet, is easy meat.

Beeno, I did not expect this from you. You are a sound poster and to be dragged into something like this is nonsense. Steve Walsh has been phenomenal for years. If you want to launch an inquiry into any ref, please do it about that ref who controlled the 2007 super rugby final between the Sharks and Bulls. There were very suspect calls made in the death there that gave the Bulls the opportunity to win the game. Then the ref admits after the game that he "may have missed (and get this) not just 1 but a FEW calls in the end there!" Oh wait...That was STEVE WALSH!!!

Guys jump off Beeno's back please, he is just reporting the story and exposing Walsh for the million and 1st time in his bent career. When oh when are we going to get a straight up kiwi ref? I have a feeling the SA boys are not doing enough to aid our crooked friends! Bryce Lawrence set the bench mark and the rest seem to be following like sheep!! ha ha ;-) I knew you kiwi's would like that one!

Having said that, SHUT the fuck up England. 30 points to 3 is a hiding anyway you look at it. Walsh's shady calls (I never watched the game so am assuming he must have made some given that write up) never stopped you from running the ball over the whiteline more often..You actually failed to do it once. You met a Welsh side more passionate than you and lets face it, did you deserve a grand slam when Italy almost had your scalp in your own back yard.

Boklogic forgive a man for falling as a consequence of overwhelming temptation!!!

I have often said that the sharks were diddled by a bulle ref (was it marius jonkers) in that final much to the outrage of some bulle herders I was posting with in those days (probably contributed to my eventual banning from that website).

I also noted how bulle ref craig joubert blew the Stormers out of a super 14 final against the bulle at Loftus. I have commented on the same Craig Jouberts blowing the superior French side out of the world cup final and denying them the World Cup.

Nededless to say I ignored the pathetic bleatings of those bulle herders -hahahahahahahahhahaha. One could hardly take them seriously now could one.

So I have a most distinguised record in this regard.

The point was not whether England would have won( Who can say how much welshies refereeing effected their chances) but what is crucial is whether they got a square deal to which of course( this maybe a surprise to kiwis) they are entittled to. Rowntree knows that those who have no regard for fair dealing will howl on about him squealing so he and his technical staff must be very sure of their grounds to take a public step like this - and who of course was the ref but a nz ok. Bwahahahahahahahhaha how embarassing all these things must be. Who would be a kiwi one asks!!!!

So hats off to Rowntree for being undeterrred by accusations of squealing which put off lesser men from seeking decent refereeing standards.Lets be uncomprimising in rooting out corrupt kiwi refs and indeed any corrupt ref. Its just that the kiwis tend to hog the headlines.

Of course one must not expect any sense from ou saSUE/storm in head whose ref model is byce lawrence - nz ref of the year!  Need one say more?

Beeno

Referees are human and they do make mistakes.   Most referees are honest and not crooking matches.  However, the poor referees like Bryce Lawrence are alo in existence.- I do not believe they intentionally crook matches - I think they are just total waste of space.

Insofar as Walsh is concerned - I do not really think he made that many mistakes at all - especially after watching the game again.   I think the complaint is basically sour grapes.  If it was a narrow win - he may have a case - but England lost by a large margin - they never really were in the game at all..

ou maaaaaik please be more consistent. welshie may not have been as bad as BL who is probably the worst ever and as bent as they come. If you make erors you make them both ways etc.

Its no use you complaining about Bl and then also complaining that Rowntree and his technical team take exception to welshies refereeing and want to take matters further.

Good luck to them. If they do have a case, and i would be suprised if they dont, then welshie needs a good rocket.

So Mike lets not hear you only complain when the Boks or sharks etc are shafted. Try nd be a man of principle -  please note I make no such call re the hapless kiwis being the realist I am.  Bwahahahahaha

Well I have to say it was clear England hammered the abs. What is not clear is the extent of welshie's detrimental whistle.

Nice to see you back Hakwa but do chose more sensible pictures. Hahahahahaha. I also hope you are not getting too excited by that crusaders win against a daft side selected by Ludeke.

Our coaches are having some brain implosions right now and it appears they are not learning anything. frankly they should all be fired barring Naka.. Get in guys like Mallet, Jake, Venter instead of these halfwits.
